I really dont know much about it more than the basics, and I havnt been around system wars that much recently but it seems everybody is pumped.

I just really dont think its gonna be as good as some may think, its gonna have problems you werent expecting, its just not gonna end up as were expecting it right now...

I expect it to start up, kind of work with a ton of problems, then die off..

What are you people expecting?

There are a few posters who are excited for it. I however am not. If it works, then power to them, but I do not like the concept.

They are promising so much I can see Online falling on its face. People say bandwidth is getting better but Internet Providers are starting to charge you for how much bandwidth you use rather than the speed they are giving you (I hope this doesn't happen everywhere), that is going to hurt Online. And you are even going to own less of your game because it won't even be downloaded on your computer anymore and you will have to be constantly online just to play any game, even a SINGE PLAYER GAME! Wouldn't that also destroy mods and other custom made content? :|

I'm expecting a bunch of investors to be very, very sad.

That's about it, though.

i think it won't be released for a while. i think they will say it is coming at X time but then later postpone the release date to something else. it will keep on doing it until they finaly don't say anything about it. kind of like how the phantom was like.

it seems like many people here are very opposed to the idea whether it works or not. i personnaly im willing to wait and see how it performs before i form an opinion.

Everybody is pumped for On Live?

On Live is going to be an EPIC FAILURE. There's just no way that business model can succeed with today's internet infrastructure.

It'll never work. Even if they can get it to run lag-free on a half-decent internet connection, even if they manage to work around bandwidth caps, and even if they find some publisher support (Crysis was only licensed to be used for demoing the technology), the fact remains that it'll be prohibitively expensive.

Onlive is going to live or die based on their pricing structure. They can roll it out in a few areas and slowly expand over the years, but if the pricing is screwed up they can forget it. ESPECIALLY when some cable companies are getting really greedy about bandwith. I signed up for the beta so hopefully I can take a whack at it for myself.

I have kickass bandwidth, and a midrange gaming PC, so color me intrigued. Then again, I don't like the idea of having to be online in order to play. Here's hoping they have a free trial.

I think it is going to be quite a few years before ISP quality can match the quality ofresolution consoles do.

Gamers here complain about graphic flaws/framerate flaws. Even reviews of games here do. People don't want to play a game on any weaker resolution than is possible, let alone pay for it.

Unless Onlive can supply an equal resolution than an at-home game, consistently and speedily, and people don't mind losing their games if they discontinue service, it might happen.

I still think it's a pipe dream.

The 720p at 30 fps thing and input lag aside, I like the concept. I'm not expecting it to be successful, however; too many potential issues. I have a feeling games that require an extremely rapid input response time (racing, action, FPS) will play absolutely terribly with ~70+ milliseconds of input lag. 70-100 ms doesn't sound like alot, but when you're playing a game that relies heavily on player reaction time and requires very precise inputs, it's a huge amount.

There are a few posters who are excited for it. I however am not. If it works, then power to them, but I do not like the concept.

It has the potential to be great. For users who can't afford a new PC every 2-3 years, this is a great option. They can purchase a game on ONLIVE and play it on their pc by having the ONLIVE servers process the game code. It's really quite nice, but it will only take off if its flawless. This means, it can not have any lag. You can't play a FPS gameand move your mouse and have ..not even 3 ms lag. People can tell when a game lags even the slightest in terms of control response. Also they need to specify the rights of the people who buy the games. Do they own the game, or are they renting it? If ONLIVE closes, do the people lose their games they purchased? Will they be able to downlaod a copy of this game they purchased so they can have a physical copy of their own? Can this physical copy be installed on the end user computer should they upgrade their hardware? I mean, people will have questions, and the latency issue is their biggest concern.

I'm very interested to see how it turns out but I'm not going to use it. I reckon it will be a relatively successful, something along the lines of Steam. I also think it'll work despite some people claiming its impossible. I won't rule out some technical difficulties to start out with but I reckon they will iron out the bugs and it will run smoothly for the few with high speed internet connections. Good luck to them I say.

Bandwidth isn't the big problem here. It's latency. There's no getting around the laws of physics..and unless they plan on putting OnLive servers in every major city (the only way they can reasonably reduce latency is by moving their servers closer to the users), latency is going to be an issue for the vast majority, especially with the faster-paced genres.

I'll admit... it'll be nice not having to worry about divers and grahpics cards, if Onlive works there are only a few things you'll need to fully enjoy your games... 1. A good monitor/television. 2. Speaker output. 3. A graphics card that is just good enough for HD streaming (I have heard of grahpics cards so old they can't even steam youtube videos.) 4. A good gaming mouse and keyboard. You wouldn't have to worry about anything else. Although... 1. If you don't have access to any of the game data, would this mean no more modding games? 2. Even if the the developers of a game make a built in game editor to make custom games, how are other people going play what you created if Onlive doesn't host it themselves? I can see games using Onlive, just not exclusively.

If its impossible then why are they even bothering. I reckon the people creating OnLive know more about this stuff than you or I so the fact that they are even trying to do what they are doing must mean that there is a possibility that it can run smoothly.
