Don't think anyone really felt the burn since not many people bought it
BLU RAY >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> hd dvd
[QUOTE="khalil19104"]you can buy alot of other things for 200 instead of a player that wont do very well in the long runVoodooHak
You can say that about alot of things. But with the bunch of movies that i have for it, it's already paid for itself.
Â
but if it fails you would have to buy a new playerÂ

Not really. I got an extended warranty at retail. Just like i do for any complicated electronic device I buy.Â
HD-DVD is the way to go, the format is proven, the movies are there, and the quality is better.

With news like this, HD-DVD could actually pull ahead again...
Excerpt from the link:
"But the HD DVD camp's real trump card, backers said, will be the arrival this year of "competitively priced" HD DVD players from such companies as Alco, Jiangkui/ED Digital, Lite-On, Shinco, Meridian and Onkyo. They cite the flood of cheap DVD players retailing for $99 or less as a key factor in bringing DVD to the masses. "With the addition of new consumer electronics companies to HD DVD, we're predicting more than 2.5 million units in the market by the end of 2007," said Yoshihide Fujii, president and CEO of Toshiba's Digital Media Network Co. "This growing level of manufacturer support is a clear result of HD DVD winning over enthusiasts and movie lovers alike."
The site did go on to say that HD-DVD still is in an uphill battle now, in a war it was once winning. But if HD-DVD is able to get $99 HD-DVD players out there, that will be a huge boost for HD-DVD.

Then, there is also the announcement of a dual Blu-Ray/HD-DVD combo player from Samsung. That is notable given that Samsung was only supporting Blu-Ray DVD players (except in laptops). Now, it seems, they are supporting both, which is good for HD-DVD in the long run.
All I know is, the war is far from over...
Im just curious?khalil19104
Yeah I got the HDDVD drive because I am waiting for Lord of The Rings HD.
Nonetheless, the only HDDVDs that I own are King Kong and Children of Men. I feel super burned ; ; and I slightly hate MS more this garbage of an addon. But then again, I make a lot of money, so $200+ is pocket change.
And the difference will be noticed on my 62" Plasma.
Here's some comparison shots * LinkÂ
I bought it, and I don't feel burned. It plays my HD-DVD's. and I didn't need to spend a lot to get it.
And a question I like to pose the naysayers of hd-dvd: With all the support Blu-Ray is getting, isn't it kinda ironic that HD-DVD, with 3 major studios behind it, is still close behind blu-ray? It's not like Blu-ray has completely decimated the HD-DVD camp...

Ummm 9:2 Ratio isn't close
No, HD DVD is selling more. Check the figures for this month.Acemaster27
Do you feel burned that you invested $200 dollars into the player but will be forced to upgrade to the elite with hdmi if you're going to want to watch HD-DVDs with content protection?Â
Am I the only one support dual format players??? There's really no reason you have to choose one or the other except blind fanboyism.

I support both 360 and PS3 but my heart is with PS3 as I've preferred SONY years now
I don't mind both HD DVD and Blu-ray Players. But I think everyone knows its Blu0ray is the one thats gonnna have more blockbuster releases
With HD DVD Players @ $200 dollars WHy not. (Hope its not the HD DVD external 360 drive, but more a standalone player)And isn't it true that these players on the MArket so far won't be able to Play the Triple layered HD DVDs to come??????
I don't really expect 30Gb HD DVDs to compete with the Quality of 50 Gb Blu-ray Movies
HD-DVD is making a comeback
Here are amazon graphs from last 30 days:
Sales Rank Top 10 Movies: BD:Â 250.............HD-DVD 224
Sales Rank top 25 Movies: Â BD: 773............HD-DVD 545
Sales Rank of Top 100 Movies: Â BD:Â 3883.........HD-DVD 2007
# of Movies in Top 1000Â BD: 14..........HD-DVD 23

the HD-DVD add-on is pretty useless if you ask me. it can be only used to watch movie with the Xbox360, thats it. no games, etc.
Blu-ray will have higher adoption rate then HD in a long run.

thats the problem with this format war, its going to end up a draw and everyone is going to have to buy a dual player...
did ms stop making hddvs addon? haves stopped being published on hddvd? will the hddvd addon not work with elite? if none of the above are false then no one should feel burned the format war is far from over..it will be decided by dual players...WilliamRLBaker
HD-DVD add on may work with elite, but it'll stop working with the core and premium models due to the lack of hdmi. Once movies studios start adding content protection into their formats you'll have to upgrade to elite or you'll be stuck with a $200 doorstop.

According to German-language Spiegel Online, there is reportedly a behind-the-scenes, unofficial agreement between Hollywood and some consumer electronics manufacturers, including Microsoft and Sony, not to use ICT until 2010, or possibly even 2012. Without providing more details, the report suggests that Hollywood isn't exactly happy with the situation, and could very well renege on the agreement, such that it is. But the agreement is there nonetheless, presumably to help the industry transition to HDMI. This could explain why the very same studios that pushed for HDMI and ICT have recently announced that they would not use it for the time being.
With Microsoft being a major backer for HD-DVD you can sure as hell bet HD-DVD won't implement ICT Tags until a new Xbox is out.

2010 is only in 3 years, I would expect a longer lifetime out of my electronics then 3 years. Assuming they even stay true to the agreement.
