Either the industry has been ruined by cookie cutter game design, or I'm just growing out of it.

I have the same problem. I'm having trouble beating games lately, and it's not because they are too hard. I just sort of get tired of it. Sometimes I think I'm growing out of gaming, but I still think that games are actually getting worse.

I'm not growing out of gaming, I'm growing out of all the disposable carbon copies the industry has been pumping out and all of the horrible casulization of classic hardcore franchises.

I don't feel that way, but gaming also isn't my main hobby. I like fishing, snake hunting (catch and release), camping, hiking, and bike riding more. But I don't do much of any of that during the colder months.

Yeah. Platformers of all kinds get old for me within 30 minutes. I can play FPSers as long as the online is good, I don't even touch singleplayer.

Maybe its just singleplayer games that I am getting tired of. Seems almost like they are obsolete.

Me too. I probably won't touch my gaming systems once spring spawn starts where I live. My roadbike is calling for more money to be sacrificed to the carbon fiber gods too.

I will start saving for a motorcycle later this year. It will be my first bike. I am thinking of getting a Suzuki SV1000S. Yea I know, it is kinda big for a first bike, but I don't have money like that to buy a small bike, then a big bike after I learn to ride. So I will just take it easy. Or I could get a Suzuki GSXR 600. Anyways, don't want modded for getting off topic, so um....errr... yea, I don't feel that way TC.

My big days of gaming where during the SNES and Nintendo 64 days. I draw now more then anything, but I still play lots of games. Just no where near the time I spent on them when I was younger. The Wii has helped but still don't waste my life away liek I did when I was a child.

Hey. I felt the same way a few years ago. But I found joy in gaming again from consoles. So I sold my old PC for scraps and got me a laptop. Console + laptop = convinience to the max.

The fun factor is slowly diminishing for me. And yes I have to admit, I've lately considered completely dumping my hobby altogether.

I've experienced pretty much all kind of games so far this generation on all 3 systems. All sort of different genres also.

I can't say I have been impressed much. Either the games I've played aren't next-gen worthy or my standards or expectations are simply set too high.

Yeah, I have and still buy many games that I don't finish or care to even play the for more than 30 minutes. Stuff like Gears of War, No More Heroes, Zack & Wiki, Kameo, God of War, and the list goes on. Last game I finished was SMG in November and before that was LoZTP last summer(took me 5 months to beat). The only game I've been playing for 30 minute spurts for the past 3 months is Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix online for the PS3.

I did notice I haven't been playing much at all lately. I just don't feel inclined to finish games either. There just is anything that really hooks me like there used to be on older generation games. There are only a handful of games I look forward to now and I'm not even sure I'm going to even bother picking all of those up. The one and only game I for sure am waiting for is Final Fantasy XIII. If it turns out to be a big disappointment, I may quit gaming all together by that time.

I agree! For me gaming is much more of a Winter activity. Spring-Autumn I spend most of my time outside biking, kayaking, hiking, going to the beach etc. My game time diminishes greatly during that time. I've already put in a few bike rides this year and am planning a bunch more :). By the time Winter comes around there are usually a handful of games I want to play. I also regularly go back to the older systems and play games that I missed. Keeps things interesting!

Oddly enough, it seems that casual games have been my main source of entertainment this gen

I have a wii, and wiisports probably was the best experience I had on it. Warioware was also great.

I played guitar hero on the 360 and loved it

Most of my ps3 time was spent on sports games this far. Not all, but still, most.

What I need are more really great hardcore games, games that are essentially simple at their core though. Mario Galaxy was great for that, but even that game didn't quite satisfy me as much as wiisports did. Yes, I'm pretty much hyped for wiisports 2 whenever it comes out. I'm thinking I will be more cow than sheep by the end of the year though, considering the upcoming lineup

What he said. Games like Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, Trauma Center, Super Mario Galaxy make me like games again. Most games are boring and use the same thing we've seen time after time again.

I have had that feeling lots of times. I think its just the general state of the games industry. To be honest i haven't found a game as fun as some of the N64 classics or going even further back Snes/Mega Drive era. I'm not saying i don't enjoy gaming at all but it's not like it used to be where i could play the same game all day and still want more.

I don't know if it's the games or if it's me, but I definitely seem to be losing interest. I've only beaten 4 games this generation; Gears of War, Halo 3, Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl and I barely play online these days.

No I feel like games aren't growing up with me. Games today in prettymuch every genre are actually LESS deep and simpler. I haven't felt true gaming bliss on a console since 2002 and it's getting more and more rare on PC. Developers need to push the boundaries of game design and interaction or else I'm probably done after this gen. The Wii is prettymuch the sign of the end for me.

Wow, I'm surprised by all of the replies. I've been playing videogames since the NES (I was about 5) and I just wind up enjoying games more and more with each generation, this one included. I'm more into it now than ever before. With games like Gears of War, Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Call of Duty 4, I just can't get enough. Not to mention I am having a lot of fun with Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door on the Gamecube.

Besides, my uncle is about 50 and he still games like crazy. In fact, he set up computers for his kids so they can all play together (yeah, he started having kids late).

Nope. Even once I end up working as a full time scientist (don't exactly know which one just yet:P) 5 years down the road, I'll still be playing my video games in my spare time.

I felt like this for about 6 months. The game industry is kind of my career so I'm really stuck with it though. Creating games is a completely different passion than playing games for the most part. I feel like the technology is just trying to catch up right now. Games are getting seriously hard to program for, so the programmers are stuck in these set ways of doing things because no one wants to take the risk, or they just don't have the funds to put the time into something completely new. A risk in this industry right now means pretty much your company is going to go down if you don't pull it off. Things are getting better though, with Live Arcade, PSN, Wii, and PC gaming. Those are markets where you can try risky things and later apply them to bigger projects.

In all seriousness, I think a lot of people that have held games of old dearest in their hearts are all feelling this. People say its nastalgia and all that crap, but in reality if something truly amazing came along a new memory of nastalgia would be created. I'm not feeling the nastalgia this gen.

If the wii werent out this gen I probably would gave gameing a break until something new came along.

But the wii did come along and playig videgames on it feels like the SNES and N64 all over again :D
