Yes, but addmitidly i just underwent a full lobotomy. Sony up untill this point has been face-palm worthy, the first decent move on the hardware/ annoucement side since before E3 2005 IMO.

Sony is making people feel stupid because they released an ugly new PS3 with no BC? They really showed all those doubters, didn't they.

MS will just drop their price and bundle in a couple games and things will go on just like they have been.

My view of them hasn't changed, their existing price range wasn't working so they responded to market demand and made a cheaper model with less features. How would that impact your view of them? This isn't some well thought out strategy, their original intended price didn't work so they had to change it.

I'll also tell you what I tell everyone who talks about a 10 year strategy, people who think the PS3 is going to last 10 years didn't pay enough attention to the PS2. The PS2 lasted that long because of its unparalleled 3rd party support, not because of its hardware choices.

What good strategy? They released a very expensive console and because of that they lost a lot of the market share. All they did know was lower the price due to market demands.

Haters say it's hype, but the fact is that the PS3 did wat it had to do to survive.

And survive it did.

Look at the new games coming out. They look incredible. Look at bluray sales up 500% yoy. Look a Sony challenge Microsoft, MICROSOFT for online gaming supremacy.

Watch MS implode. The OP is right they did have a "bust early" approach to this gen. Rushing the console to market defective and flawed. Dumping money on "downloadable content" and trying to play catchup with games.

Now it's time to say goodbye 360. Your games are looking wack and you need to watch your back. If MS keeps it's focus on this "massive failure" they will continue to get pounded by Apple, Google and Sony combined. For what? For the usless struggle to make the 360 somthing that it has always wanted to be:

A Playstation.

But 2010 looks better than 2009 and even 2008 for the 360, it still has some ways to go to match 2007.

I don't feel stupid at all considering they entered this gen with a holier-then-thou attitude and got shot down. It is their fault they are in last place and finally manning up and giving a quality product is for the best. If anything they should feel stupid for taking this long.

ps3 sold really good for $499/$399. imagine what a $299 Slim will do. thers millions of people and past ps2 owners waiting for something like this. and the price of making the ps3 went down too so sony doesnt lose money anymore. system selling games like GT5 and GOW3 coming out too...

Why do you feel the need to qualify your point with a bet?

I've been telling cows since 2006 that the PS3 would flop and it hasn't let me down yet.

"Just Wait"

Come get me in Aug. 2011 when the PS3 has outsold the 360 by 300k units every month for 2yrs straight and I will acknowledge my lack of forsight. How's that for a bet?

I don't feel stupid at all... I'm waiting for more than one game to make me want to buy a PS3, at any price. I don't buy consoles just to say I have them. I have to have a reason to own one. I have a rather large game collection on the 360, and I am proud of that. Why spend $300 for a console that's just going to sit there?

I don't understand what you are getting at. All they did was drop the price (obviously a price drop was coming) and released a new version of the hardware that is cheaper to produce.

Also, I don't think you understand what a 10 year lifespan is. The PS1 had a 10 year lifespan, and the PS2 will too. It doesn't mean that they will wait 10 years to release a new console.

no, i am not feeling stupid, for one this gen i dont see them getting much more then 30 million sold(35 tops) so with alot of exclusives lost, loss of interest from many people due to initial high price it has no hype, and all casuals are no longer with them. so for ps3 to be able to be supported for 10 years( i am talking about making consoles as its up to devs to make games) so it will be hard for sony to be able to maintain the ps3 if it makes no or loses money. if anything only nintendo with the mass caual appeal could keep a 10 year life this gen second, releasing an ugly slim modle is not good third, groundbreaking motion controls? it is a copy of wiimote, well different way of doing things, but the same concept and functions, there is more but i really dont think you care but nice try tc

i dont think the slim really mattered because it isnt any different then the current configurations its just smaller,

100 cheaper , then the current ps3 low end price .

those who have a ps3 may buy one but that will hardly have an effect since wii is 50 cheaper and 360 =100 cheaper especally with this economy

I am amazed that Sony came back into the market. If it was Nintendo or Sega releasing the playstation 3 I bet you that they would be filing for bankruptcy right now. Finally the price is decent($300 best blu-ray player) with downloadable content and free online.

Now it is time to roll the games. I am pretty sure some people are still holding back on buying the ps3 due to price. Once God of War , GT5, and the exclusive Final Fantasy I am pretty sure ps3 will surpass xbox in sales. The 360 already reached its climax, its too cheap already and it already released sequels to its biggest system sellers like Halo and Gears.

Problem is if Microsoft hits the market with a new console, Sony will flourish a bit too late this generation.

The PS3 will need to outsell the 360 worldwide by 150,000 units per month for almost 4 and a half years straight just to catch up.

Chances are not that good that the PS3 will ever surpass the 360 IMO.

I'm sorry that you feel stupid, can't say that I feel the same way. New PS3 Slim is defnitely a bargain, wonder why they removed the slick black finish? Anyways as stated the gap between the PS3 & Xbox 360 is much larger than you think, & this weird master plan you speak of is totallly just in your imagination alone.

360 has a killer lineup next year and everyone knows it. Not to mention its taking FF13 and Tekken series away from sony. Im not even going to name all the games the ps3 is not getting next year which are HUGE. And this year it still has a Halo game and Forza 3 coming, along with a load of multiplats that will sell better on 360. Its doing fine thank you. I love how everyone thinks the PS3 (because its not ps3 slim its just a redesigned ps3) with a lower pricepoint is going to save sony. You forget that MS is going to drop the price once again to match. And currently, the 360 is smacking around the ps3 in sales very badly. Last number I saw the 360 was nearly doubling the PS3. So you guys can be delusional all you want, but MS is here to stay, and they've been doing things better than Sony for the last 3 years.

No obviously the new PS3 will sell 500k a month and 360 will never sell another console because it has no games and gets RROD every other console. Heavy sarcasm.

after reading the gamespot interviews about the ps3 slim and sony, i wonder if people are feeling kind of stupid for doubting sony and thinking they didnt have a good strategy for the ps3 ( i have a ps3 and i still doubted).. but after the current events, and a few moments of reflection on my part, i put 2 and 2 together and see that... sony really meant what they said about ps3 and all thier electronics having a 10 year lifespan.. and they are only a few million behind the xbox, yet only less than half done with the ps3 itself. now it has massive exclusives coming out, a new low price, groundbreaking motion controlls and 5 or 6 years left to live. while on the other hand the xbox is just getting dogged left and right.

its almost like the wise old man sony is proving why it is the wise old man, and your brash xbox who thinks it knows everything is proving why the kids start out the gate strong but dont pace themselves and blow thier 'load' about halfway through the race...

How is it xbox goin downhill lol? And xbox 360 will be around for about the same time and has some good exclusives comin out. Also stop saying the xbox breaks all the time when it doesnt. Ive had my xbox since launch and i know no one whos has broken.

The xbox won't go downhill but ps3 is sure to surpass it.

Let us not forget there are 100+ million ps2, where are all those fans? They are waiting for a price drop, they are waiting for more games to have a price drop. Lets not forget GT and God of War are still not out. online play(major seller) is free not to mention people love novelty and they are going after the Blu-ray every if they don't need it.

Outside the US there is a huge loyalty to the playstation brand, people refuse to accept anything else. A lot have no idea what an Xbox and are too afraid to try anything new. Even those who get an Xbox, they make sure to own a playsation too.

I can see ps3 consoles beating 360 easily. But I have to say that the #1 thing that will shatter records of ps3 sales are modchips to run pirated games.

Let us not forget there are 100+ million ps2, where are all those fans?

playing on their nice new Wii60.

This is true though, everyone I know who was a big ps2 fan now has a Wii.

 sony's "strategy" was to launch the PS3 with a $600 price tag simply to piss off and rip off consumers, only to find 2 years later that it cant kep up with the other consoles with the only option to cut the price, which MS will meet with ease.... That strategy? Ms has a better "strategy" with the NXE this year and Natal and the "relaunching" of the 360 next year. Thats extremely bigger than a slim PS3 with cut features...

after reading the gamespot interviews about the ps3 slim and sony, i wonder if people are feeling kind of stupid for doubting sony and thinking they didnt have a good strategy for the ps3 ( i have a ps3 and i still doubted).. but after the current events, and a few moments of reflection on my part, i put 2 and 2 together and see that... sony really meant what they said about ps3 and all thier electronics having a 10 year lifespan.. and they are only a few million behind the xbox, yet only less than half done with the ps3 itself. now it has massive exclusives coming out, a new low price, groundbreaking motion controlls and 5 or 6 years left to live. while on the other hand the xbox is just getting dogged left and right.

its almost like the wise old man sony is proving why it is the wise old man, and your brash xbox who thinks it knows everything is proving why the kids start out the gate strong but dont pace themselves and blow thier 'load' about halfway through the race...

I have faith in Sony's strategybeing better than Microsoft's. Nintendo however, they just got it right this gen, from a commercial point of view.

I never really doubted the PS3, i always new it was a quality piece of hardware, and it had good games, only problem was, with that $600 price point it launched with, it created a stigma for itself that it was too expensive, even after the price dropped.

I cant tell you how many of my friend i talk too, even today who say, "i cant afford a PS3, i dont have 600 dollars.

In the past year or, sony has been turning things around which is good to see.

You cannot change the past. Sony was a trainwreck at the start of the generation, amazing considering the success of the PS2. They have lifted their game substantially, however they are making up for lost ground against Microsoft and Nintendo, so they have a huge obligation too.

Clone OT here but I see Eraserhead and Jacobs Ladder in your sig...what are the other 2? On topic - I was actually considering the PS3 at this price but then I realized the BC and no Linux. That's pretty disheartening for me...we'll see I guess but I probably won't get a PS3 until 2010.

$300 should of been the launch price. The only reason I feel stupid is paying $500 for the darn thing. Sony doesn't get to chose for the PS3 to last 10 years, the consumer does, and I doubt it will have any support when the next generation comes around.

on the far left is the protagonist from "Wolf Creek" (not for the faint of heart). on the far right, a scene from the Takeshi Mike classic "Audition" (really, really not for the faint of heart).

I actually have seen Wolf Creek I knew it looked familiar. I have not seen Audition. Since I liked the other 3 I have a feeling I will like it. Thanks.
