I wouldnt say they are bad games (1,2)...they did alot of things most games did not at that time. Car physics, huge cities and exiting cop chases. The 70's style of the first one made it that much better.
The one things that they did before alot of devs are user created content...the director mode was pure genious...if something amazing happened, you could save it, edit it, and show it to your friends. Love getting chased in survivor mode in the streets on San Fran.
I love the Driver games and played them to death back in the day... but as far as quality went, they weren't the best there ever was. There was a ton of game-breaking glitches, the difficulty curve was astronomically insane (playing D2 about a year ago, I wondered how I ever beat it as a child), the gameplay was relatively bland and the mission design was somewhat uninspired. It was basically just drive from point A to point B and avoid the cops... with no real variation.foxhound_fox
Your right but when looking back at alot of games I used to play as a kid, they were usually bland as well, in today's standard. And yes some of the missions I played when re-visiting the game years later...it keeps me wondering how I ever caught that damn trolly in san fran. :D
As soon as GTAIII on the PS2 hit, the Driver games became obsolete. Driv3r tried to copy it but failed miserably. And every subsequent release has been garbage.
Even looking back on the first two, they were pretty bad games to begin with.foxhound_fox
You said everything I meant in a less euphemistic way :P
