of the price? I really like a lot of the games lineup and I would really buy a lot of games even at the high prices Nintendo games go for. I'm ok with that. I also am interested in a lot of the virtual console games. However, I absolutely refuse to pay $300 for that system with very weak hardware and doesn't even include a hard drive.

The PS4 with far superior hardware and a 500GB hard drive can be seen ofter on sale for $360. Anyone else refusing to pay $300 for a Wii U on principle alone?

I never bought a console for its specs. If a system has (or I know it will have) exclusives I want, then I buy it. It's pretty much a given that I'll buy Nintendo and Sony boxes every gen.

I refuse to buy the wii u because:

It is vastly overpriced, placing itself too close to the real next gen consoles considering.

It is vastly underpowered. I already have a PS3/360 and don't need another within this range especially with a clunky, underused tablet controller.

It has a lame library with no third party ever incoming, and at this stage the last gen consoles are getting better support. Don't go quoting over valued franchises like pikmin and undercooked mario platformers at me. You're getting the same games you get every gen and missing out on all the games I actually want.

Expect to be rounded on for this so let me state: It doesn't matter what I or you think. It matters what we all collectively think, and the sales of the wii u are in the toilet. And if you believe it's only because of the name I have some land on mars to sell you.

That's a $200 refurbished WiiU from Nintendo themselves. And It comes with a 1 year Warranty. You're pretty much buying new.

@lostrib: I just got one myself and I was impressed with the refurb quality. No blemishes and comes with a one year warranty. Even came with Nintendoland.

Anyway, in the big scheme of gaming $200 or $300 is a small price to pay. This is an expensive hobby that unfortunately still releases multiple proprietary game consoles. It's just how the business goes. Personally I don't buy consoles to get access to any sort of technical power level, I buy them solely to get access to their games. Wii U is cheaper so it's easier for me to bite the bullet for than a PS4. I will get a PS4 once it reaches $299.

On the bright side, at least the system is backwards compatible which means the Wii can go in the closet forever (if it isn't already there).

Although I didn't enjoy Nintendoland all that much, it's still a great deal from what you're getting.

$200 for a refurbished 32GB with Nintendo Land on Nintendo's website

$300 to get a brand new Wii U with a game, like the New Super Mario Bros / Luigi U, or $300 for a Mario Kart 8 bundle. Hell, the last Mario Kart 8 bundle was a deal since it also came with a free downloadable copy of Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, or NSMBU.

There's value there. Buy used if you're cheap.

I'm not buying one simply because there aren't enough games to justify the price.

I don't care about hardware specs.

Anyone who buys a console for the technical specifications is doing it wrong.

You should buy a console because it has games you want to play, not because it makes lots of Teraflops.

That's my problem as well. Why buy a Wii U when I can just upgrade ym gpu for a similar price? A far better purchase. That's my problem with this generation in general. Pc gives me more stuff to play + a good gpu is the same price as these consoles, hence why I'll never buy them until they get cheaper.

@Xplode_games:

It was 330 with two games not long ago. Just buy it. Stop whining. $299 is not a bad price and it comes with a game. Ps4 is $399, does not come with agame, and for online add another 50 dollars.

Why compare the sale price? If you did that, you should use the sale price of a Wii U. You can get a refurbished one for $200 for example.

Exactly. I remember back in the day the Panasonic 3DO had the most powerful hardware at the time and the PS1 and Sega Genesis $h1T on it because it had no games!! I buy consoles because they have the games that I want to play...period!! I own both a X1 and a WiiU and am excited for each library in the upcoming months and years!!

Considering it cost about as much as the ps2 at launch and only $50 more than wii did at launch no it's not too much to pay. Ps4 is great but it's not even a significant bump up from ps3 aside from more ram.For now $300 is about all it's worth for all it can do and offer at the moment

In that case, Nintendo should just bring back the SNES and sony should bring back PS1 and charge $300 for each... "because they have games I love".

Obviously at some point, tech specs play a role in the value proposition of hardware. If you don't think so, YOU are doing it wrong.

I knew someone was going to make this stupid comment. I just didn't know who.

I was talking with regard to making it one's sole reason for buying the console. No shit improving tech is important, but it shouldn't be the primary reason to buy a console. If console history has proven anything, it's that the most powerful console always loses the generation.

And if the PS4 indeed goes on to win this generation, then that may be a sign that console gaming is dying. Never in the past 7 generations of consoles has the most powerful console ever come close to winning (even the 360 and PS3 trailed behind the Wii for years).

TC the Wii U does have a HDD. It's 32 GB but still better than nothing. Also, just wait for a sale or get the Wii U direct from nintendo refurbished for $200 as others have said. Personally what makes a console memorable for me is it's games, not necessarily the specs.

I was able to get a brand new Wii U with Mario/Luigi U, and bought MK8 and got Pikmin 3 for free (nintendo promotion) for $310 (without tax) during Best Buy's "Black Friday in July" sale...I'm expecting This Black Friday to have great sales on Wii U maybe get one then if you really want one.

It should also be noted that the Wii U was made compatible with ALL external USB HDD devices of any size (including 2-4 TB).

Something Sony and Microsoft have never done. So the issue of a "small harddrive" is a non-issue. Nintendo merely gave the consumer the option of expanding it to as large as they want, rather than forcing them to buy a limited, over-priced proprietary device.

tho I'll be honest, I am curious to owning a WiiU and lately I've gone from paying zero attention to the WiiU and 3DS, to paying some attention to it.

IDK, Some of these games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario World, and such do look interesting and fresh, BUT no where near to justify a $60 purchase, much less to buy the console for it either.

WiiU is looking better these days, but still too far away to capture my full attention.

Nintendo does not have the games that everyone wants nor it has the specs to back it up to warrant a purchase.
It was made for the casual, younger gamers and Nintendo fans, with the same old Nintendo games.
If you want a console with no regards to spec and full of games, then get a Playstation 2 and Nintendo 64 and enjoy.

The industry progresses, technology is improving.
Far better to get something more future proof and has games and backing for it and one that is not overpriced, the best of everything really.
ie PC, X1, PS4.

I bout a Wii U because of Mario Kart 8 with that MK8 Wii U bundle and along with a free Wii U game and I pick Wind Waker. Already own PS4, Wii, and soon to be Xbox One this November.

If anyone really wants a Wii U that bad and not pay $399.99, like lostrib said, get the Refurbished Wii U or wait for Black Friday which should be mega cheap to porches while everyone is too busy getting PS4, should have no problem snagging Wii U on Black Friday.

You could always just, I don't know, get one alongside a PS4 or Xbox One? You'd be able to play all of Nintendo's games, plus the 3rd party games and the console of your choice's exclusives. It's the best way to go.

People buy consoles for games, not hardware. Hardware doesn't mean crap if the games suck.

As far as a companion machine goes its spectacular. Tons of exclusives you won't find anywhere else and always a lot of fun. This generation, same as last generation is a 2 system generation. Last gen I went 360/Wii. This generation I'm going PC/Wii U. While I would like to complain about game prices I can't. Almost always the game is worth the price of the game. Sometimes even more so. I bought a Wii U because I knew it was going to be the only console I'll need this generation.

I bought a Wii U on launch day for $350 so I'm gonna go ahead and file price under "non issue".
