Guitar Hero is one of the most innovative games ever. It literally rocks.

Guitar Hero is the second-best music game I've played, next to DDR. Though I don't think the "I love the 80's" game was really necessary, it's nice to have.

Rock Band will probably be great, but it's too expensive and requires too many people.

I think most of us realize that anytime something becomes popular it's going to be run into the ground so the companies can cash in before the fad fades away.

Wait, of all the genres to get tired of, you pick innovative guitar-influenced rhythm games which mostly come from one or two developers? Huh? I'd be more concerned about the mountain of generic shooters guy.

It's starting to become overkill just like with all the "GTA clones", but there still highly regarded and popular.

Dance Dance Revolution is still the best! Those games are fun to play with friends and family. But I do agree there's too much hype around them. But there's a lot of hype around consumer products nowadays.

Thats why I play Konami's Bemani games...there are many different versions of each game but most of the updates carry over your favorite songs from the last mix.

Your analogy here is wrong. Guitar Hero and Rock Band aren't clones, they are a part of the original series, granted there was a fork so you have Rock Band from the original creators of Guitar Hero and now you have RedOctane's Dev team working on Guitar Hero 3. The problem with your analogy is that you say it is like the GTA clones however these games are not clones. I notice that the GTA series is still held in high regard and so I see no reason to believe the same won't hold true for Rock Band...I can see Guitar Hero failing to innovate since the Dev team that created it left and is creating Rock Band.

I think your spelling of ridiculous is ridiculous. Why are most people on gamespot incapable of spelling such a simple word correctly? It's always the same freakin' mistake. Seriously, the word isn't difficult.

Anyways, no, I don't think it's really that ridiculous. The franchise is popular. They want to make money. It's normal. They are milking it, but it's not that anomalous to, when you have an established, successful franchise on the market, make as much money with it as you can.

the interest in these games is obviously still there though

how's it rediculous to have a lot of games in a popular genre?

as long as it sells, the devs will continue to make these games .. just like shooters, platformers, RPGs etc

I can see how you can say RedOctane is milking the franchise, however, Rock Band which comes from the original Dev team Harmonix is innovating on the franchise that it helped create.

I think Mario is the most ridiculous of them all with over 100titles on GB, GBA, GBAC, DS, DS Lite,NES, SNES, N64, NGC, Wii.

Madden and NCAA are common tradition games for EA. You kind of need them, All-Pro is great. Blitz the League was released almost 2 years ago by the way...and NFL Street...who cares? :?

They don't play the same way, if that's what you mean, but it draws from a similar concept of instrumental actions. Though, for the most part, I think your agreeing with me? I said they're clones, but I didn't say they were bad games. I did say they're popular and highly regarded, which is what I think you acknowledged and agreed. :P

True. I am not condemning that. Nintendo innovates on Mario, Square Enix innovates on Final Fantasy, etc. I am just saying that they are milking the franchise, the brand, the name, whatever. They are making use of the popular, successful name and are creating new games based on that name. That's smart, not ridiculous. It's only ridiculous if there are not any significant changes between each game they bring out.

There are two likely scenraios coming out of this.

1. This whole "guitar-playing" thing turns out to be gimmick and dies off soon.

2. It turns into a genre like racing, or football games, with lots of crappy games and a few good ones.

3. Harmonix continues to lead the way in innovating in the music game genre and continues to have success for a long long time.
