If not (which I would say 99.9% of us are NOT), then sales should not matter in regards to which system is better.

It's the games that count! :D

Besides, think of the PS3 as a Cadillac and the 360 a Toyota Echo; of course more people are going to buy the Echo (especially in these uber-dramatic economic times that we live in), but it doesn't mean that the Echo is a better car than the Cadillac - it's just easier to afford.

Just because their are more users does not make it better either; online, you would never notice the difference between 27m or 34m users because at max, online games support like what 64 players (until MAG drops) on consoles right now?

Like I said, it's the games that count - and this year, no one can even dare to deny what system provided the best content.

Enjoy! :p

The flaw with car analogies is that you make the PS3 to be vastly more expensive and superior when you compare it to a luxury car, when it clearly isn't.

360 multiplats outsell PS3 multiplats. Are you going to use a car analogy for that too?

Not unless owning and investing in their games and systems count. Scores and sales are just SW game weapons.

Sales is an aspect of gaming that we like to discuss here. Why are people so against letting us discuss it?

well that's just it really, you said it yourself - we're talking about gaming - so with that said, do you think that the quantity of game consoles sold should dictate the better console, or the quality of the games available to be played on a console? Purely as a gamer, can you justify the argument of "console X has Y more units sold than console Z therefore implying that console X is greater than console Z." in comparison to "from 2008-2009, console X has not put out as many quality titles as console Z, therefore console Z is better." in the aspect of gaming? Just wondering lol

Agreed-- but when sales are used outside sales-related thread (for example, using popularity to overshadow a score, or using sales to stat game X is not good) is when sales become annoying.

It's usually lemmings who play sales this gen against high-scoring PS3 games since the scores cant be knocked down for flopping. Last gen I'm pretty sure it was the cows that did it.

This. Sales have nothing to do with how the games run. The only thing we could see sales affecting game-wise is whether or not the devs will keep support of and release DLC for a game. I wouldn't say I'm against the discussion, but sales really don't make a game.

LOL you are being way to kind comparing 360 with Toyota Echo,

360 is more like hundai or susuki since you can't drive them for more then 10 miles without them failing on you!

Love your analogy. I do have small holdings in MSFT, as well as IBM, AT&T. Still pissed I missed out on the run Ninty took with the Wii. And sales only matter in one sense in my opinion. Just like technical graphics are factual, so are sales. Now as a former business man, I see the competition between these three companies from the business sense. The only things that matter in this competition are moving product and turning a profit. Facts are truth, and the truth can't be argued because it is already the truth. Nintendo is spanking the competition, giant period. No it doesn't make me play tmy Wii more than my PS3 or 360. Yes those two consoles win more of the competition for my time. But the fact is the other two are looking to motion controls now, and the Wii is the current gen console in more homes. Sounds like win to me. Damn, Nintendo......

Depends on what you consider "major".

Square Enix, Namco Bandai, Atlus, Team Ninja, Sega, Capcom, Ubisoft. Good enough for me.

Uhhh, I would guess that Toyota sells more than Cadillacs, so the analogy still applies.

Sorry lem, try again.

It's like in car entertainment, the ICE for both cars are the same, but because the Cadillac is more expensive they don't have as much money for ICE, the Toyota owners have plenty of money left so they get loads of ICE and have more fun whilst the Cadillac people have to stick to watching movies.[/satire]
