I'm eagerly awaiting to see Mr. Needlemouse get back to his 2D roots. As the project name implies, this game will probably stick to bringing back the old Sonic formula. Afterall, Sonic Unleashed already hinted that Sonic was getting back to his roots.(A werehog with strecthy arms? STRECTHY ARMS!? Why does that sound familar? ;) ) Who knows, maybe that thing that looks like it's a hat on Sonic could be drums in the background or something. Wonder if his band is back? Then there's that whole Elise thing so bringing Madonna back wouldn't seem so outlandish anymore. Anyway, I can't wait to see what they do with this game. What are your expectations?

I'm expecting Sonic Unleashed with , all 2D, more platforming, and Kunx and Tails playable. BTW that sybol is just the old Sonic logo I don't know why people think it looks like he has a hat on lol.

Yeah I think the bulge at the top misleads people. The shape doesn't look like spikes, ya know, on the back of his head. It almost looks like something is back there and people happen to think it's some hat. This reminds of how embrassing it was when Team Chaotix appeared in Heroes and some people actually thought they were new characters -_-.

Not really. Sega seems to be blinded by the idea that Sonic is all about speed, when it was merely a component of what made the originals brilliant. When I see vibrant worlds, villains with actual character (say, Buzz Bombers?), and stage design that's about platforming and multiple routes as much as finding the next speed booster, then, perhaps, I can be excited. Before that, no. Sega needs to demonstrate they know how to make Sonic games first.

No. Not really. Sonic Team has no talent. And side scrolling and fast speeds aren't going to do Sonic any good. He needs quality platforming, enticing level design, and memorable bosses... even if that means sacrificing some, if not all, of his speed (which I do think is needed). And those three qualities can be done in 3D.

Well Unleashed did have some platforming though failing at those sections resulted in some instant death. Werehog had some platforming which was obviously influenced by Ristar(another Sonic Team I believe). I don't know, I remember when Sonic 2006 came out and it was heavily based on platforming save for the Mach Speed scetions then people complained Sonic wasn't fast enough. They wanted the high speed back. Sonic is all about speed. Then get speed and complain there isn't enough platforming. I can't help but, think Sonic fans are too spoiled to ever be happy with a Sonic game.

Not by Sonic Team. The last excellent game they made was Sonic Adventure. I must note that The secret rings was good... but it wasn't amazing.

When I say Sonic Adventure 1 was excellent, I say this understanding that it's from 1999. If it were released today, it would be terrible. And, I'm sorry, Sonic Unleashed was horrible. Even the day sections.

I knida agree. Sonic Unleashed is one of the fastest Sonic games ever. I still like the adventure format though. I'd say my favorite 3D Sonic so far were Sonic Adventure, Sonic Heroes, and Sonic Unleashed. I would like Sonic 2006 more if it were more polished and the camera/controls didn't have all the technical issues but, it's pretty much Sonic Adventure 3 so it's not as bad as people made it sound. So yeah, that's my take on it.

Needlenose? I don't remember a Mr. Needlenose. Anyway, Black Knight was ok but the bosses in that game were crap. So friggin' easy it's sad. Anyway, I can't say the Storybook games are the best in the series by no means but there have been good 3D sonic games. Sonic Heroes was incredible and Sonic Unleashed is actually pretty good. Shadow's game was when Sonic started to slip though I still play that game sometimes. It's ok but, it could of used some more polish. So yeah, I wouldn't write off Project Needlemouse just yet. MM9 proved that a franchise can successfully get back to its root. As long as this new Sonic game doesn't turn into a rehash like MM9, it should be good.

Fast =/= good. It was fast. The platforming was pretty much shallow. There was really no challenge. The bosses were pathetic. The levels weren't memorable. Everything I loved about the original Sonic is nowhere to be found in Unleashed.

I have not written it off, I've got my eye on it. But I feel the fan community is totally misguided on what makes a good Sonic game, so I am skeptical.

Not really. Before I even get ANY hype, I have to find out what systems it's on, if it's nothing but HD systems (which I have no doubt it will) only, oh well. If they make something like this for Wii, I'll keep an eye on it more than I would the other versions (since I don't have them).

Unleashed isn't trying to be like the originals. I think there was enough platforming considering it was a 3d version of Rush. The Werehog had the platforming which was basically Ristar if it ever went 3D. The combat was pretty good. Don't see how it's boring unless God of War and Heavenly Sword magically suck now. As for the bosses, they were a tad easier than I had hoped but they weren't total pushovers. Than again, beating the heck out of the Egg Beatle is so funny. Just keep boosting and he's fried. "GWAAAAH! Your manners are as bad as ever!" Hilarious XD

There were lots of Challenge expecally in the extra levels but thats my opinion I also think the levels were memorable I still go back and play them some times, The bosses were fun. I don't see what people don't like. Besides this isen't the original Sonic anyway so of course what you used to like isen't in unleashed it's not the same style...

That's a given. The Sonic fanbase has no idea what they want from a Sonic game. What needs to be done to "Save Sonic" changes with the seasons. They'll never be happy.

Unleashed trying to be like the originals.sonicthemegaman
But it wasn't at all like the originals. :? The originals had so many qualities other than speed. And he wasn't even that fast in the originals. In fact, in the originals, the level design punished the player for speeding through the level. Try speeding through Oil Ocean Zone (without cheating and going underneath the level). You'll get hit. A lot. But now, the enitre point of Sonic games is to go fast without any consequences.

I'd agree on most points (although I find the day levels at least enjoyable) except the bosses (daytime). The majority, were brilliant I thought. As someone else said, I'm cautiously excited, bordering on very. It strikes me as a move to cater to the old Sonic generation so hopefully this game backtracks to what the Mega Drive era games were like. As much as I like the day stages of Unleashed and how they portrayed Sonic's raw speed, I'm not blind. It's a decent enough "blast" but there's so many things that have been stripped away. As far as I'm concerned, the game will need the following to interest me: - Momentum based physics as close as possible to the Mega Drive games (on a 2D plane, I find this a REQUIREMENT to be enjoyable. If it could be achieved in 1991, there's no excuse) - Fantasy/surreal level designs (no real-world Adventure styling) with compelling platforming - Interesting enemies (hopefully animal based) - no humans ...at the very least. The following should also come back, as they should have never been removed in the first place: - Item upgrades (Invincibility, Speed Shoes etc) - Special stages - Super Sonic in all levels - Sound test - Unlockable content (achievements being the "rewards" = fail) - Multiplayer A level creator would be icing on the cake but I highly doubt we'll see it. Anyway I imagine you've heard it all before. As you were.

And let me say that I'd agree with your points. One thing I liked about the levels in the older Sonics is how visually intriguing they are. For example, Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2. At the bottom of the level is the pink chemical ocean. As you increase vertically, the level becomes machinery. And then as you get to the top, there's rooftops and skylines. Add in the fact that the levels were complex and had many many secrets and different routes, but they were so well desisgned that the player was never ever lost. THAT was brilliant design.

Well Sonic doesn't need to be as fast as he is in Unleashed by no means. Their emphasis on speed happened recently and if I recall, people wanted the "high speed" back so they basically asked for the added emphasis on speed.

I can't really be interested in a new Sonic game unless it's like Sonic Adventure 2. Never liked the old Sonic that much.

Sonic 2006 was basically Sonic Adventure 3 if that interest you.

Well, I mean like Sonic Adventure 2, including the "being good" part. I understand that game wasn't so good. It also didn't seem to have Knuckles stages, and I liked those.

I think sonic can be done in 3D, SA1 + 2 were great and Unleashed was ok during the daytime levels. The thing that annoys me most are the hub worlds.

I would not say hyped but interested, Sega really has dropped the ball internally.

Grrrr. The Knuckles/Rouge stages in Sonic Adventure 2 completely ruined the game. They were absolutely awful and painful to play. And people have the nerve to say Unleashed was ruined by the werehog stages. The thing about Adventure 2 was that it was 1/3 fun(sonic/shadow levels), 1/3 boring but tolerable(tails/robotnik levels) and 1/3 absolutely awful and makes me want to stop playing the game altogether(knuckles/rouge levels). If it was 30 sonic/shadow levels instead of 10 levels of each gameplay type then it would be my favourite 3D sonic. Unfortunately it's not and so heroes is my favourite.

Anyway I'm really looking forward to this new Sonic. In fact it's my most anticipated game of 2010. That's right, I'm hyping it more than games like Mario Galaxy 2 and God of War 3. Everything in the trailer adds up to a game aimed at old school sonic fans. You've got the SEGA sound at the start, classic Sonic sound affects, the Sonic 1 title screen at the end and confirmation it's 2D. Clearly they're attempting to cash in on nostalgia. The best way to do that is copy the gameplay style of the original games. I have full confidence this game will be great. I dont normally fall for Sonic hype so the Sonic cycle doesn't apply to me.

Those were my favorite, actually. I liked the Tails stages, too.

Knuckles was always the best Sonic character anyway.

In the Megadrive days he was. He added a new fun dimension to gameplay with his ability to climb walls, glide and break through places Sonic couldn't. But they completely screwed up the Knuckles gameplay in the Adventure games. All you did was look around for the three pieces of the master emeralds every level. It was boring and very tedious, especially in SA2 when the levels were quite big. At least in SA1 the levels were small so the levels were over very quickly. In SA2 the torture just didn't seem to end!
