I played the Enslaved: Odyssey to the West demo last night on PS3. Its got a lot of potential. I would say it got me very interested. It seems to be a lot like mixing Heavenly Sword with Uncharted. The combat was good, it has some platforming elements to it, and the graphics were very good. Anyone else play the demo?
I liked Heavenly Sword's character, setting and combat better, but I still enjoyed it. I don't like Uncharted too much, honestly, and don't want any more games with Uncharted style platforming, but I loved Heavenly Sword so much, I will most likely pick up enslaved just because I have faith in Ninja Theory.
The parts where you play the game aren't very good because you're not really doing a whole lot and the controls aren't as responsive as they probably should be. And the framerate is not optimal. But it is a demo, and perhaps more importantly, it's the tutorial.
Still, the demo manages to be an entertaining spectacle with its set pieces. And the story seems really promising. It indeed is a lot like Uncharted 2 in that way. I just hope what follows in the full game will expand the gameplay and make it a bit more involving and responsive. And you know, deliver the feeling of an odyssey. I'll probably pick it up at some point next month. Unless it reviews terribly. So far it has gotten a 9 from the Swedish magazine Level.
At the end of the demo, it showed how you can level up Monkey to do all kinds of extra stuff. The chick helps him out there somehow. Hopefully it will be longer than Heavenly Sword. If so, I might have to pick this up day one.
Gameplay is okay, but cutscene and graphics are under average. These two things are heavenly sword's only strength.
I hope they will fix that...Otherwise they either rush up production in order to have it release in 2010 even it's not polished yet or they couldnt squeeze so much stuffs into DVD, so PS3 version have to compromise inferior DVD.
It was a pleasent surprise. Before I had zero intrest now I have intrest. The demo came off as afun adventure and the only real negative I got from the demo was that it was a bit framey.
