Lets see, I have a Switch and I have access to xCloud with Kishi. So, what is your point again?

What make any console special beyond their specs? Gimmicks like the Wii controller and Kinect? I hope you were the biggest supporter of the Kinect based on your response. It would be a shame if you were being hypocritical. 😉

I currently have a Kinect 2.0 hooked up in my theater room. Do you?

The PS and Xbox fight is boring without innovation. PSVR was a big plus for PS4. The Kinect 2.0 is the only thing the Xbox One had going for it at launch. Without something beyond pixels and frames, console wars are boring. The only thing making this new gen exciting is the DualSense and the Digital Foundry videos that have results defying the technical specs on paper. That's pretty lame. Nintendo offers something new. Playstation and Xbox offer less "new" with every release.

Y'all can't understand why the system with the "weakest" hardware has the best software library AND is the highest selling system for 23 consecutive months. That's OK... Phil Spencer and Jim Ryan don't get it either.

But were you the biggest supporter of Kinect? I am not the one accolading gimmicks, so me having one connect to a my home theater is irrelevant.

There is more innovation to be had in game designs than silly gimmicks that simply allow you to play the same games just in the most inefficient manner. You praise Nintendo for offering something new when they simply released a PS Vita. That is what you consider to be innovative. 😑

The best software library in your opinion. Its interesting that you defaulted to sales. Seems like a convenient deflection.

If you actually believe that, then I can’t help you. But you’re wrong

You are struggling to accept reality if you think its more than just that. 😎

i have two problems with this type of pro-Switch argument:

1) the Switch has the worst 3rd party support of all current consoles.. considering that 3rd party support makes up the vast majority of software content, the Switch actually has the worst software library by objective standards.. i mean, who actually only games on the Switch?.. its proudly a "secondary device" for a reason..

which brings me to my second point:

2) the sales argument isn't apple-to-apples when the Switch is being purchased by the hardcore as a "secondary device" and by casuals due to the sheer affordability (price matters) coupled with the novelty of mobility (handheld market vs console market).. bottomline: the Switch is not directly competing with PlayStation and Xbox so pretending that Switch sales can be quantified the same is being disingenuous..

Switch is by far the worst console. Making it portable doesn't save it. It has the worst hardware with the worst games lineup.

I am fine with cross gen games as it means I don't have to upgrade to PS5 or Xbox Series X. I enjoy my PS4 and Xbox One and been playing what I have now.

Hey friends. Happy holidays.

Its really nice that my launch ps4 is still so relevant. I fully expect to game for another year or so on it before upgrading. I may even wait until the redesigns come in 2023/24 before jumping in on more powerful hardware.

As long as they keep supporting it, I'll still support it.

I am grateful that the ps4 and x1 are not excluded from joining in on the fun and thank you to the companies for setting up a scenario where I can make them earn my money with great unique games before I upgrade.

Anyone else happy to keep their last gen consoles kicking?

Really there are different types of gamers and different types to tech adopters. Some people are brand loyalist others are loyal to certain gaming franchises. Coolyfett is always a Late Majority, because that is were you get the most bang for your buck. The gaming industry knows most people fall in the Early Majority and Late Majority categories. Cross gen will always fade after the Early Majority comes into the current gen. Its been this way since at least gen 4.

I'd prefer they just nixed the old consoles and focused directly on next gen graphics, but I see why it is beneficial to many to have cross gen releases.

Yeah. It means I don't need to rush out and buy a next gen console to experience the games. I want to play Demon's Souls Remastered, but I can wait to play it until it goes on sale later next year. I'm not trying to pay $70 for a game I already played with better graphics or for any game for that matter.

There's such a diminishing return on the the tech for current-gen to next-gen stuff these days, I really don't see the reason things can't be cross-gen. At least for a few years. Ray tracing, for example, is nice, but frankly it just doesn't add that much to the game...especially for how much it costs.

Developers generally cater to the lowest-common denominator (current-gen consoles) while also developing for the top-tier of gaming (PC), so in some ways they are already prepared for supporting current-gen and next-gen games as it is.

It is likely extra work, but not everyone is going out right now to buy next-gen consoles that have maybe one or two games out, and are not backwards compatible with most games.

Just my $0.02 on the subject, I'm sure I am wrong.

I'm sure many are thankful for cross gen games given that scalpers are making it impossible for many to upgrade.

I was thinking this, too. Considering the situation where scalpers have made it impossible to get any of the new hardware for a reasonable price, be it graphics cards or consoles, I think having some cross gen games out of the gate is a good thing.
