Anyone want to help me decide whether I should get a PS3 or Xbox 360?

Well I'm trying to decide which one to get, although I think I will eventually get both. I have a Wii, so that's out of the way.

Now the Xbox 360 has better games at the moment, of particular interest to me is Gears of War. Halo 3 is coming out next, but honestly, first person shooters don't interest me a whole lot and the only game that I really want to play is Gears of War. The other reason why I would get a 360 is because I really enjoyonline gaming and my understanding is that online gaming is better on the 360, the $50 dollars a yearI can live with.

The PS3, well if i do get a PS3 I would get Warhawk, Ninja Gaiden(I've never played it), and possibly motostorm if I get the 80gb model. There are a few other PS3 games that are coming out that can hold me over for a while like Oblivion:GOTY, and Rainbow 6. I'm really really really looking foward to MGS4. If theres a game I want badly, that is it, and the runner up is Devil May Cry 4, but these games won't be coming out for a while.The PS3 also has the bonus of having a blue ray player to watch movies, but I consider this a small bonus as watching movies will only be once in a while as most of my time will be for gaming(and damn I just remembered my old dvd player bit the dust last month).

So as I'm typing this I'm also trying to rationalize my purchase and I've now realized that the only thing that concerns me about the PS3 is its online play, is it really that much better on the 360? As far as cost go, I think I can still find a 60gb for 500+hdmi cable bringing the cost to 550. If I can't find the 80gb then its 600 for the system+hdmi=650but I'll have 40gb of extra space and motostorm, not sure of 40gb+motostorm is worth the $100 dollars though. Then the xbox 360 will be 350 for system +100 for wireless adapter+50 hdmi=600, or elite for 450+100=650

All in all, cost is roughly the same, if anything the ps3 is a better value because of the blueray player, but games are my main priority.

So now that I've typed all of this out, I think I've convinced myself to get a PS3 as long as its online gameplay is still good, but I'm still open to being convinced I should get a 360 over a PS3.

Oh and as far as graphics, both systems are close enough that the difference doesn't mean much to me.

I don't think you should worry about the ps3's online play one bit.

80 gig - 60 gig = 20 gig

360 is awesome you will really enjoy it and XBOX LIVE is great.

but you're better off with a 360, more games, better online (you get what you pay for, quality) games that are on PC (here and now and not 2 or 3 years down the road, plus it's cheaper than the quality rig you need to get the "full experience), more people have a 360 for the new gen, it still beats sony in sales, and for the wii well it only goes so far

but you'll get the same mindless crap from the cows on why their overhyped, too expensive, you don't need bluray, everything will be on 360 eventually or already is crapstation

I'd say get a PS3, because you get Uncharted, NGS, MGS4, FFXIII and down the line the game Im looking forward to the most, HEAVY RAIN. I also don't think the online is any different. It costs $50 on the 360 is all.

If you were to however buy a 360 just to play gears. I would have to say that it would be worth it

ps3 is only good if you want it as a br player.

I would have reccomended a 360 last week but I just had It die on my so I'd say PS3.

360 is just good for a couple of months

Based on what you said, I think you would be better with a PS3. First, you said you liked online play, I gotta tell you that gears online is horrible. there are no dedicated servers and the games are only 4 vs 4. You're gonna get much more with games like warhawk. Also, the PSN is starting slowly to cathc up withxbox like, making the 50$ not really that worth. If you really don't like shooters, why going with a console which got too much of it, and lacks of others kind of games? Gears, Halo. Bioshock...With the ps3, you can get

Racing ->motorstorm, GT5, F1 championship.
Action/adventure -> Heavenly Sword, LAIR, uncharted, Ratchet and clank, god of war.
RPG -> White knight story, FF13, FFVS13, Disgaea 3.
Shooter -> Killzone 2, Resistance, Haze, UT3.
Sports ->every EA and 2K sports game, Hot Shot Golf 5.
Rythmn -> GH3, Rockband, Singstar, DDR...
Multiplats.

As you said, the bluray player, wifi, bluetooth etc. is certainly a bonus you should forget.

Yes lemmings, I didn't say you console isn't good at all, because it is a good console. I just gave him the good points about getting a ps3, you can do he same without invalidate my points.

IMO the 360 has better games coming this year but ps3 have better games in 2008 but there is still games to be announced later for 2008 for the 360

yeah because Mass Effect isnt going to be the highest rated RPG of this Gen, and 360 doesnt have great family games like viva pinata, or murder myster zombie games exclusive to the console like dead rising or alan wake, or Gears of War II, or the better versions of almost every multiplat game. Lets not forget, exclusive expansions for Grand Theft Auto.. and the most played game this gen Halo 3 which really exposes warhawk for being inferior.

Getting a 360 if your not a FPS fan isn't a wise choice. If you really want MGS4 go with the PS3. Even though it might not be coming out soon, you'll still have plenty of great games to play on the PS3. We also have a ton of great timed exclusives/exclusives coming out in the near future. Warhawk scoring the same as MP3 is pretty damn nice. The PS3 is also the superior peice of hardware and their's no denying that. Blu Ray will win the war and in the future you won't have to worry about buying a blu ray player. And the 360 will probably break after a few months (like mine). Even though MS will repair it for you for free (if you get the red ring of death), I rather be enjoying my PS3 then have my 360 in repairs for a couple weeks.luggymeister

I just saw playstation home....WOW. It looks incredible. A free community like that looks like it has tremendous potential. I'm practically sold on the PS3 now, and I've been watching the gameplay footage of MGS4, just wow.HappyProzak

And of courseMultiplat should look better on 360 when u consider 360 is like HTML coding (really simple) while PS3 is like writing Javascript (Complex but will yield better looking website once learnt)

Use these simple rules of thumb:

If you like AAA games, go with the 360.

If you like to AA games, downright awful flops and promises of greatnes somewhere down the line, go with PS3.

If you don't mind waiting, Playstation 3.

If you want good gaming, Xbox 360.
