Apple Console?????

I didn't realize that Apple had released a console in 1996 in conjunction with Bandai.

I came across the video from Linus Tech Tips in my Youtube feed in which they buy one that has never been opened and try it out, entertaining video.

I remember hearing about it back then. I can’t recall how well it did although I’m going to say probably not too well. 😅

Yeah, the mid 90s was pretty wild. The shift to 3D seemed to have drove everyone completely nuts, coming up with stuff like the $700 3DO, the Sega 32X, and Nintendo clinging on to cartridges when the CD-ROM was taking over.

Hence why the one company that kept a shred of their sanity in all the mess won - and that company was Sony.

I was under the impression that this never actually released. They had it ready to go but pulled the plug before mass production started.

Is this relevant to System Wars? We talk about current-generation systems in System Wars, but the Pippin is a product of the 1990s. More appropriate for the under-used Games Discussion forum.

@madrocketeer: The Pippin launched at 599 USD which was insane at the time, and also launched with non-existent games. The hardware was beefy but no devs tried to develop with it. It was also at the time when Apple was financially struggling, hence they had to axe the Pippin.
