Apple: PSP and DS just not cool anymore, overpriced too

Oh, Apple. In order to be considered a serious gaming system, a gadget needs noteable games. It's premature to start slashing at the competition when you're the only one that has yet to move off of Go.

I still wont own an Apple product apple produces products that too often dont do what they are originally ment to do well but then have all these extra functions that do nothing to help that product do what it was ment to do.
Mp3 players for example specially the iphone and ipod touch, I want an mp3 player that plays music and pretty much only plays music nothing these 2 things do help in that function and the iphone is a P.O.S i want a phone not something that does nothing for me in terms of a phone.

Absolutely agree.

Apple may find this hard to understand, but I buy gaming hardware based on games, not on "coolness" and social status bumping.

And for the record, my launch PSP still looks plenty sexy.

Psp still is best in handhelds in terms of technology and hardware.

What has apple got thats even better?

Maybe down the road, if they ever did market a handheld/phone/music player/camera hybrid... then maybe they would be a threat.

Kids and grown ups would want it. And this would be nothing like the N-gage.

I don't play video games because they are "Cool"...

Also, iPod gaming is terrible and will never last.

Well, the SD card slot can do a great deal for gaming on the DSi. If it works like the SD slot on the Wii, it'll allow you to purchase old-school Virtual Console games. I would love to see a massive library of old Nintendo games available for download on the DSi.

What's the matter guys? Sony and Nintendo always talk like this, is it that this guy actually scares fanboys a little? Apple will become a factor in this handheld gaming arena if they so choose. I get my Iphone in a couple of months and I have no interest in a DS or PSP but I will buy a Iphone game or 10, I bet I am not alone.

Apple first has to dominate the mobile phones gaming industry (as nice as Iphone games are they still cover merely 10% of the market) before it can think of taking on DS.

DS is simply murdering iphone/ipod touch in sales and unlike apple products, everyone buys DS for games.

I used to like Apple. My first computer was an Apple IIGS, way back in 1986. Now Apple is just annoying. They're all talk and have little to show for it. On top of that, Apple is extremely arrogant. Their commercials are insulting to a great many people, and their products are overpriced.

The iphone has no buttons, gamers like me want Final Fantasy tactics games, RPGS of all types, disgaea, resistance retrobution, persona, lbp, assassins creed bloodlines in true 3d, gt portable, Knights of the nightmere, Silent hill series, metal gear (not wii type light gun shooter lol.) burnout, dungeon maker, Star Ocean, god of war, wipeout, gta stories games, dragon quest, age of empires, syphon filter, socom, monster hunter, valkyria chronicles...no iphone or any CRapple product will replace my precious 2 psps (soon to be 3 with the go) and DS lite...sorry crapple, it aint' happening!!!!!

I swear that I have a friend who bought an Ipod Touch just for the games. He doesn't even use it for the music! Then 1 motnh later he sold his Ds.

A new Iphone costs 800 big ones where I live, yet they're calling out the handhelds for being overpriced? Heck you can get either a PSP or a DS(i) and a game or two off the price of the cheapest Ipod Touch.

Trust me Sony cannot even begin to compare to Apple's level of narcisism and arogance.

The claws are out -- and from Apple, wouldn't you know! Phil Schiller, Apple's marketing VP main man, is calling out the PSP and the DS, handheld gadgets from Sony and Nintendo respectively, for being overpriced. And not being cool anymore. Kssshhh...

"When [DS and PSP] came out, they seemed so cool," said Shiller. "But once you play a game on the iPod touch, you think 'hey, these things aren't so cool any more..."

Wearing out that coolness factor isn't the only problem. "We're talking about 25, 30, 40 dollars a title. These kids can't afford those titles. Worse isn't the price, it's the buying experience." As opposed to their games -- all 21,178 of them, not to mention the up and coming hot titles such as Assassin's Creed II from Ubisoft and the music game Riddim Ribbon.

Apple's definitely making it known they're putting themselves in the handhelds race now, flat and square. Well, Sony and Ninty? What say you? With these points raised by Apple, making a comeback with "It's not really in the same league as us, hence it's not a competition" won't suffice, methinks.
