I only here constant complaining about Ubisoft's DRM, Activisons poor treatment of Devs, Customers, and massive oversaturation, Valves constant bashing of the PS3 (well maybe Steam makes up for it) and EA's excessive overpriced DLC, DRM Dropping Titles, and poor post release support

I mean, I hate activison as much as everyone else, but is there any actual third party publishers that isn't despised by the whole gaming community?

Valve isn't really a publisher, or at least, in this situation, they aren't.

And what they do is no different than the majority of Sony's first party and a couple of their 3rd party loyalists.

you don't hear a lot about THQ/Take-Two with this stuff. so maybe them?

I hate EA the most, though.

I never heard anything bad about Eidos (before they got bought by Square), and Aksys is a very good publisher.

For the most part, yes. Publishers usually have no clue or passion about video games. They simply follow market trends and hope. They thrive on sequels and cheap games. They often tell good devs with good ideas to go away because thier game is not mainstream enough.

But, they are a necessary evil because without the funding of a publisher, no game gets released.

The day when indy games are as cheap and easy to make as a retail game is the day when creativity in games will come first.

Nah, Eidos pulled out the checkbook for one too many reviews. Regardless if other publishers do it, Eidos got caught.

Forgot about that! Scratch Eidos, then. But I stand by Aksys.

I don't care about any of that corporate hate train that some people are riding. As long as the publishers provide me with games without any of the BS like Ubisoft's DRM, I'll be one happy panda.

What we need is a sundance for video games. A convention for people to show and demo indy games. The best ones winning awards and being picked up by publishers.

Every year plent of indy flicks make it to the box office, and that's because of indy film festivals.

Publishers are only after money, they rarely if ever do anything for the gamer. Games would be cheaper, longer, polished, actually complete, and better overall if publishers ACTUALLY cared. Sure good games get thru but not as much as they should.

I don't care what anyone says, I love EA. And everyone seems to love Atlus. Both games I've played from them (Demon's Souls and 3D Dot Game Heroes) are awesome so... Yeah, sure, I can see why people like em, right?

Well if publishing a game that still received a 'fair' score on Gamespot is the worst they've ever done, they're not too bad. :P

Atlus? They make games about killing god, worshiping lucifer, resurrecting Hitler and shooting yourself in the head to bring out your SUPAH POWARS! Also many high school shootouts. They are a terrible publisher. I have yet to see the appeal in such games.

Publishers just need to stop thinking they have the right to OWN a developers game because they publish it. The music industry has moved away from that. It's about time games did too, and EA's Partners thing is a step in the right direction.

Valve supports a lot of indie-game developers and gives them a fair amount of profit as well.

It has been seven years. Give it a rest. I really don't see how anyone can look at EA as one of the worst when they've released a good chunk of this generation's best games.

Huh? That would be like expecting director or screenwriter to own the movie. If developer wants to own the rights all they need to do is self fund the game. Expecting publisher to happily spend 20-30 mln dollars on the project and then complaining they own it is very silly

I'm glad someone said this. You'd be hard pressed to find a label willing to pay for every aspect of creating, distributing and marketing an album but wanting no ownership of it. Pubs should stop owning games when devs stop asking them to pay for every aspect of its creation. It should be noted that EA Partners isn't the default arrangement for every studio working with EA, just those in a position to take advantage of it ie they don't need to pub to pay for every aspect of creating a game.
