Hello friends,

So currently we have 4 AAA giants, EA, Activision, Ubiosft and Bethesda. EA we all know how bad they are, Activision = COD, Ubisoft games are same AC games now loot games with microtransactions.

Enter Bethesda, among all AAA publishers, they are only publisher who support immersive sims and old school shooters. They have publsih variety of games from Dishonored 1 and 2, Doom, Doom Eternal, Prey, and now Deathloop which looks most innovative game in years.

Their Starfield is one of the most promising looking game that is releasing, ie thier new IP and will be very ambitious i mean who doesnot love Open space exploration!!. A Dream Game.

I dont see any other AAA company take much risk and release same old crap over and over again. yes bethesda are not very good developers and Fallout 76 was bad but as whole they deserve credit.

So my friends, Are they best company among AAA Giants? lets discuss

EA has many good franchises, but they do nothing with them. Activision has nothing worthwhile. Ubisoft is... i don't have time to explain what i don't have time to explain. Sure, out of these four, Bethesda is much better. Even tho F76 was a complete clusterfuck, i don't think Starfield will be a bad game. In fact, i think it will be easily 90+ on meta.

Mid 2000's I'd have said yes. 2021, no. They were instrumental in creating the open world RPG genre as we know it, but they've stagnated while others have improved to the point that no, Bethesda isn't at the top anymore.

No. I've generally not enjoyed their offerings. I think I liked Fallout 3 ok enough but that was the last.

I'm honestly not sure if I should be excited for the new Indy game but if it comes to PS5 (doubtful) I'll happily preorder as it's a favorite genre.

They were much more coveted to me in the Morrowind and even the Oblivion days. Back then id buy a Bethesda game day 1, but since Skyrim and FO4 iv gone off their games a lot. Skyrim was so stripped of many of the mechanics of the older games and the console centric UI was straight up copied and retextured from Oblivion. In fact I could have sworn half the animations in the game were from Oblivion too. FO4 wasn't great either I didn't feel like I was playing the next iteration and more like a midway expansion on a slightly updated engine from FO3.

As for Starfield, I just don't get why people are hyping a game to be the next big thing based on ..nothing. "Promising looking game", based on what, a two minute trailer made up of logos an astronaut flipping some switches in a cockpit, a case sitting on a shelf?

Skyrim was one of the most stripped back casual game going. They now develop for that group of gamers, they are no where near the top anymore.

@ghosts4ever: There is no discussion, Bethesda was a premier publisher (now a premier subdivision of MSGS), and has created a ton of AAA properties, which is why they were worth $7.5 billion dollars.

LMAO at all the butthurt cows in here trying to downplay Bethesda. Twitter is ripe with never ending Sony fanboy complaints that future Bethesda games won't be on Playstation.

After Fallout 76 Bethesda has a lot to prove.

Other than Doom a lot of those gamers are just really average. Looking at you Wolfenstein!

Yes, Fallout 76 was a dumpster fire when it launched. That is correct. But, discredit the entire company (that owns 7 studios) for one bad game?

They have a resume of current successful IPs, talent studios, they seem every bit the equal to the EA, Activion and Ubisoft type companies, only lacking in the utter moral bankruptcy of the other three, so they are better for that.

@dabear: even if Bethesda games won't be on Playstation so what? Many Playstation games won't be on Xbox and according to last gen, the Playstation games are more relevant. Microsoft is the one playing catch up. Finally having potential for games doesn't mean MS is on top. It means they have potential, that's it. It's funny seeing you guys in your fantasy world where having potential for games outshines a company with a proven track record to deliver excellent exclusive experiences.

Huh?

No Playstation games are relevant to me, so doesn't my opinion ruin your argument?

Half of the top 10 PS4 games were multi-platform.

No MS or Sony game equaled the sales of Skyrim (30 million). And the next game in that series will not be on Playstation. That's relevant.

People underestimating the impact this will have on Playstation are delusional.

There are some BIG franchises in there, much bigger than nearly all of Sony's exclusives.

In one fell swoop they surpassed Sony's first party output as far as games that sell.

Bethesda is better than EA, Acti and Ubi. Even Bethesda's own crappy games are better than any games from the others.

Just an aside if you have gamepass can I suggest you try 76 again, won't be to everyone's taste for certain but the addition of voiced npc's and multiple speech options including skill checks brings the 76 experience much more in line with what you'd expect from a modern fallout game.

I think so, they make many of the games in recent years I have enjoyed.

Having Id, Arkane, and Machine Games in their stable alone sells them for me, and them holding the Elder Scrolls and Fallout licenses (and actually doing some decent stuff with them....mostly) seals the deal.

I mean, what else is there? I don't like Japanese games so that leaves Activision-Blizzard (no CoD for me, and BLizzard titles are few and far between), EA (meh), and Ubisoft (ehhhhh).

Was sort of wondering what it's like these days. Would you recommend it? I mean it's free, got nothing to lose. How would your rate it relative to the other fallout games?

Let's say if I put New Vegas at 10, Fallout 3 at 8, and Fallout 4 at 7, where would Fallout 76 rank about now?

I wasn't a fan of the voiced protag in 4 I thought it limited speech options etc. so the convo system in place now is closer to new vegas and 3, 76 being basically an MMO lite the narrative is not quite as tight as new vegas or 3 but for my money is at least comparable with 4 for enjoyment, graphically it's pretty much the same as 4 and if you like co-op gameplay and are happy to jump into daily ops etc. that certainly adds value imo, having held off playing much of it first time round after being thoroughly disappointed by the state of the game at launch I've been having fun with it lately, the game still has issues, buggy quest triggers some server instability here and there etc. I would not recommend someone go and get gamepass for this but if you already have GP and have some time to kill you might be pleasantly surprised. If you at least enjoyed fallout 4 I'd say give it a shot, but as always ymmv.

@sonny2dap: yeah voiced protagonists are generally an immersion breaker for me. There are exceptions of course (namely in Mass Effect, for example) but my default preference is unvoiced.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll have to give it another go. Is all the DLC and stuff free and included with Game Pass?
