If you compare games a few last years to now you will notice that everything is 20x easier and is spoon feeding you. For example, fighting games are being destroyed because developers have to make their games simple so people who will only play the game for a few days and button mash their way the whole time, get the trophies and, sell the game will buy it. (MVC3 Sentinel is a recent example, you don't need to learn anything just mash circle and do a basic combo and Doom's assist. LVL 3 XFC will most likely give u a win if the opponent makes just ONE mistake) Tons of casual gamers buy COD every single year regardless of what little changes there are and ignore the problems such as the obvious bad hit detection. I could write hundreds of paragraphs giving examples of games dumbing down but i'm sure you guys get the point. I think casual games should stay on PSN/XBL and the App store/handhelds Does anyone else agree?

Well, to be fair the problem is th Devs trying to appeal to casuals that are the problem, most casuals wouldnt play the games anyways, and by dumbing down the devs are not exactly expanding thier userbase, they gain new people, at the cost of the old fans who feels thier beloved franchices have been destroyied (and no it is not a strong word).

It is worse yet when it is an established franchise which gets dumbed down and alienates the entire fanbase, just so they could get a bigger number of potential customers, this ofcourse again at the cost of thier fans who Often feels outright betrayed since they basicly were the ones who made it possible to get the sequals, through them buing the games.

Well maybe the Pubs moreso then the devs all things considered.

Casuals? No, they are just existing. The companies trying to go for the casuals are the ones ruining gaming.

If it wasn't for all the casuals buying games the industry would be very small.

Its not all about complexity. In other genres besides fighting/rts games everything becomes generic. They go for pretty colors, "badass chars" and bare minimum content filled with bugs and ship it off and if they feel like it they will patch some of it and prepare for DLC.

pretty dumb thing to say just because there are people who can't handle the 10+ buttons needed to play a game doesn't mean they shouldnt be able to enjoy videogames. I have a lot of friends who like videogames but stay away because some games have just become too complex...it's good to see i can invite my friends over to play FIFA 11 and they can do ok playing the simple controller set up while i do the regular set up.

A lot of people call themselves hardcore and hate casual games because they are simple and easy to play...but Im pretty sure Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt were not long complex games.

Like i said, its not all about the complexity. Most games from a few years ago were able to be played by middle schoolers so why dumb it down and lower the standards even more? Its now acceptable to sell incomplete games with tons of bugs and no content or release the same game with the same problems and 1 new gimmick. Edit: Many franchises are trying too hard to be casual and they end up turning their games into generic trash. If casuals are buying 1 type of game then everyone will make that type of game. Theres alot of FPS out now and many of them are trying to be like COD because thats what the casuals love. You won't see any unique type of games because its so risky. Take a look at a COD/Halo youtube video and see how the fanboys react, they act like COD/Halo is the only game out there and everything else is trash even if they never tried it before.

Only console gaming. PC still has some dev houses making decent games. Console gaming has gone mainstream, so short glossy easy games are popular.

Gaming on PC doesn't make you hardcore. Its the dumbest notion people have. PC Gaming is larger than Console Gaming ....... its more mainstream, casual than Consoles. PC's has its fair share of shovelware, casual games, flash games etc. PC Gaming has been on the rise not because PC Gaming is inherently better than console gaming, its because more people are aware of PC Gaming due to Steam, Xfire etc and a much of other factors like how gaming requirements have substantially slowed down.

I agree. A game can be incredibly complex, but that doesn't make it a good game. Back on topic, what's killing gaming? People who call casuals retards and refuse to allow new concepts into the industry. The industry won't change or advance in any form. We're not going anywhere if we just trash motion controls and Angry Birds and stick with the same gamepads and same game genres. The industry needs to experiment with new fresh ideas. Of course, we're not going anywhere if we call people who don't necessarily like complex games stupid. Just saying.

I have a question..........

I see the words casual and CoD get lumped up a lot. Say a person buys 360 and BLOPS because he wants to play with his friends. The guy plays with his buddies night in and night out. He has thousands of kills, and has prestiged a dozen times............this guy is considered a casual gamer?

Well, I myself being a 360 gamer I believe so, yes. With th release of kinect (Which isn't actually that good IMO) Microsoft started focusing more on casual gamers whilst leaving people like me and most other 360 gamers with crap like Call of Duty thinking that's going to satisfy us. Their focusing Kinectamals and stupid @#! like that because It's what casuals want. I'm going to migrate to PC gaming soon. Where people like me can enjoy good games without casuals ruining it for us.

Yes, only becuase devs now that they can half way do a game and it will still sell to the people who don't game enough to give a crap. Its the hardcore audience the serious gamer, who is getting the figer.

justin wong has shown that sentinel can be destroyed by teleport characters such as wesker and dante, zero can infinite combo sentinel with one meter, and characters with instant overheads can destroy sentinel (like wolverine). step your game up.

Pretty much, casual gamers have made developers lazy.

Dahaka-UK

Unless you have concrete proof that developers are actually lazy (contrary to the common reports of devs working on 16 hours/day schedules), "lazy" is simply a nonsensical description to use just because we dislike certain games.

Eh, that's why i'm not a fan of the terms. The same goes for people who play any game and know the ins and outs, they're pretty hardcore, but can we still call them gamers if they only play one game?

Talking about a casual GAME (versus a casual gamer) might refer to the amount of time/depth of gameplay it takes to learn how the game plays. For example, you can pretty much understand how Call of Duty works straight away.

Anyone who belittles another for their choice of game system are the one's ruining gaming. That would basically be everyone here in System Wars. :P

Disagree. I believe devs should have the freedom to create as they see fit just like any other creative form of entertainment.

[QUOTE="xKeiji"]If you compare games a few last years to now you will notice that everything is 20x easier and is spoon feeding you.

I agree who do casuals think they are buying Video Games? No one with a life should be allowed to play a video game period! I think anyone caught buying video games that don't game at least 42H a week should be fined or arrested. Who do these people think they are having full time jobs and a offline social life? Video Games should be reserved only for people on welfare, people in wheel chairs and nerdy virgins only!!!! And don't Give me that they can do what they want with their money crap that's just evil Democracy thinking!!! Game developers should realize that they should only make and sell games to people like us Warlocks with the super uber "Winning" Skills and ignore everyone else because we have "tiger bloods" YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's hard to blame the casuals simply for enjoying something, we should blame the devs who make them.

Loads of games this gen have been sellouts to the fan base:

RE5

SC Conviction

MGS Rising

Socom 4

DMC

etc.
