I only ask because with the recent news of games having required installs.. And other games requiring patches right out of the box.. (yea lemmings that means you too). And also surfing the web, DL movies, Sending pictures/chatting ect.. (..the hell do I need a weather channel for on my wii). Anyway, Perhaps the consoles are drifting away from the core functions of just gaming. Or maybe they're "evolving" into full blown entertainment experiences for the living room. Do you see this as a bad thing? or are you one of the individuals that enjoys multifunctional devices like these? If the later is the case would you consider the PC "screwed"..

ts not that they are trying to be PC's, they are trying to become a home media center and entertainment system. A place wherre all your entertainment needs are all in one box.

Its good as it elliminates the need for loads of boxes under your tv.

how is installing a 'drawback' on PC. remember that we dont have to stick to ghetto 20,40,60GB drives lol.

when you can get a 500GB SATA drive for 100$, i think most pc gamers will tell you that they dont care for installing, especially with digital purchases off of Steam or D2D that install and play with no disk involved.

personally, I think thats gaming perfection, dont you think?

Nah I just meant the time it takes to do it. Not the space or anything.

Nah I just meant the time it takes to do it. Not the space or anything.

well come on, ~30 minutes at most, that's too long?

I can install COD4 on my PC which will take 2 Hours to download and a couple minutes to install, and I will be able to play the game for as long as I want without touching a disk.

All that without going to a store, without worrying about losing a disk, without wasting shelf space, all that from my couch.

It's just a really small amount of time to sacrifice, and the benifit is huge.

I had COD4 preordered on Steam (among all other PC games, I buy all my games online), so from the moment I preordered the game to when it was installed, I didnt have to do anything at all, everything was automatic, I didn't even have to talk to a stuck-up gamestop store clerk who would've probably lost my preorder or given it to someone else before I got to the store.

You can have all the games you want on queue for download from Steam and never worry about anything, not even disk space, when PC hardrives are so cheap these days.

It's something that isn't on consoles.. till now. So it's a drawback from that point of view. Remember all those threads where consolities telling us we had to install games? Lol it's coming back to bite em in the @$$. I don't care for installation times since I am normally doing other stuff as well. I am just point out that cows defending installations now were the same who rediculed them earlier.

Well if you want to get technical.. No 360/wii requires you to install anything..

Well in respect to the PS3 and it's problems with game installation, you are right, of course. I'm never worried about disk space on PC for all my games and all the porn and music, but on ps3, I always feel that someday Ill have to buy an HD for it once the 2008 games come out.

EDIT: a bigger HD.

One of the things I like about the 360 is the media capabilities. Yes I can hook the PC up to a TV but I am not interested in doing it and I am sure a lot of people feel the same way.. I can't wait to see what the next Xbox will offer.
