PC's are going to make Consoles obsolete. PC's always upgrade but consoles stay the same during the generation.

PC's are already obsolete, console games far outsell there PC equivalent, Bioshock, C&C3, Oblivion all sold about 5 times better on 360.

Consoles are the future now that they can run anything that a PC can. Bioshock, COD4, Half life 2 orange box. PC is no longer needed. Nothing but hassle, people don't want that anymore.

Maybe in America, because everyone's so lazy and money-happy. Not in Europe and Korea, PC gaming is extremely popular there. ;)

Nothing but 'hassle' and improved gaming. Bioshock PC > Bioshock 360. The same applies for the other examples you used. Just because you can't grasp the benefits behind PC gaming doesn't mean it will die.

It's no shock that Take 2 claim this week's All Formats No1 as the critically acclaimed 'Bioshock' becomes the 2nd fastest selling Xbox 360 game (behind Gears of War). Released on both Xbox 360 and PC, 'Bioshock' in particular gives Microsoft's next-gen console a noticeable boost with 88% of sales on Xbox 360 and 12% on PC, and accounts for 58% of all Xbox 360 Full Price units sales this week.

88% of all Bioshock sales were on 360, and PC gamers say PC isn't obsolete  go back to the drawing board hermits as you're not top dog of anything anymore.

Why do people always think we will see PC gaming die? It is thecheapest one for a casual person who only wants2 or 3 games to get in to. PCs will always be more upgradeable, but consoles stay the same throughout the generation, so they will never be more powerful.

In short, PC gaming isn't going anywhere.

But everything on the PC is better. Better graphics better sound better online play better controls most AAAE's. Console fanboys say its too expensive but I completely disagree. Lets look at 2 scenarios :
1) You want to play games in HD
PC : a $1200 pc will easily run crysis Console : 360/ps3 + HDTV = $1200 too

2) You want to play games in SD
PC : Just put a 7600gt and it will run crysis at 640x480 Console : 360 = $400 and ps3 = $600

dont makle up statistics....

C&C3 on the PC sold a million before the 360 version was even released....

and PC bioshock outsold the 360 version in Europe....

Well they wouldn't really be consoles anymore, they would be brand PCs with their own OS and non-upgradable hardware, like Mac ..or Amiga and commodore in the past. I guess in theory I could see the next xbox come out equipped with some lite version of Windows which could play PC games directly, and PS3 could come out with Linux but wouldn't have a direct compatibility with windows games. But I think that scenario would only favour the PC which most people already own and can be used for work etc. much more easily, it would mean higher prices, and it would be more difficult to justify the purchase of an expensive console-PC or than a full-fledged computer.

In fact, it's consoles that are getting more and more closer to PCs.

Consoles now have web-browsers, secondary operating systems, online mulitplayer and social networking, upgrading capabilities, hard-drive installation, etc...

Not likely. PCs will always be nee4ded in every household, as long as there are PCs somebody will make games for them. "catching up to high-end"? That happens every gen, but after two years PC start to produce graphics surpassing best of what consoles have to offer. It's happening this gen again, Crysis is the beggining. And console that plays PC games? It would spell death to any chances of profitablity console could have. Why would anyone make console games back then and pay the fees? They would just make pc games and put console settings in them

If anything pc's will make consoles obsolete. All consoles are doing every year is adding more and more features that a pc has had for ages.Eventually there will be no use for them.Consoles are constantly playing catch up and their hardware is made obsolete by pc hardware very quickly. Look at the 8800's. They can render any game at much higher resolutions than 720p at blistering frames per second. This november sees the release of the 9800's, which is touted to be twice as powerful as the 8800's.

The ceo of crytek even said that consoles actually couldnt manage crysis in its current form as the ram is seriouslyoutdated.

Also to the guy who said no one wants hassle. Tell that to all the 360 owners having to send their 360's back time and time again...

While the 360 version probably did sell better, that didn't say that. It said the 360 console sales were up 88% due to Bioshock.

No Consoles are going to make themselves obsolete by trying to make themselves too much like PC's and thus removing all the advantages of owning a console. They've already pushed their cost up into the PC range and with the constant "new versions", upgrades and add-ons before long they will be dead.

And I'm saying this as someone who mostly games on consoles. I don't like the way it's going.

Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword rises back up to best World of Warcraft and The Burning Crusade in sales this week in the United States, butBioShock proves to be the biggest seller overall. While the Xbox 360 version is the more popular of the two in the U.S., BioShock on PC nevertheless manages to make a strong overall sales impression that few PC titles manage to achieve. Interestingly, though, the PC port outsells both the regular and limited Xbox 360 editions in Europe, where BioShock's PC version emerges as the week's biggest-selling software title on any platform.Gamasutra

It's the tendecy of all eletronics. Prety soon you refrigerator will have a built-in computer to monitor you're usage, grocer suplies, food quality, energy comsumption, etc. And soon after that, every refrigerator will be required by law to have a built-in computer to monitor and make more efficient use of energy(automaticaly ajusting the temperature based on how much food and usage patterns).

The good old days are gone forever. :(

more like highend rigs  maybe a highend rig 2 years ago but not now the 8800 series cards are 3-4 times more powerfull than the consoles gpu and most games take 4x as much ram as the ps3 and 360 to run games on max once games start supporting direct 10 the pc will leave those games in dust in terms of graphics

Not anytime soon, but probably one day. Bringing a series like UT to consoles, with a KB and mouse, thats pretty big. With how much space consoles have these days, excluding the Wii, its going to be possible to bring MMOs and RTSes over.

No. There will always be PC gaming. Also you don't have to buy a new console to play games. With the PC, you can just upgrade it.

Consoles are the future now that they can run anything that a PC can. Bioshock, COD4, Half life 2 orange box. PC is no longer needed. Nothing but hassle, people don't want that anymore.

BION1CK

That is also vice-versa. the PC can run all console games but better. also, there are still tons of people that think it's worth upgrading your PC to get more advanced games. look at crysis, once the 9800 series coems out we can start oplaying that game on the ULTRA settings. imagine that, crysis already looks amazing on medium settings.
