Are Current gen consoles lacking only in graphics or processing power too?

I feel like alot of problems stem from the pure graphical abilities compared to PC and the Lack of ram. for example: number of objects on screen or lower textures. Im just wondering if there is a pure cpu problem with the consoles. I remember one developer arguing for a crappy terrain deforming game that the Wii didnt have the cpu power capable to process terrain deformation. I feel like cpu wise, the current consoles (360 and ps3) are on par with PCs (for their limited uses cause console cpus arent multipurpose). With more ram on the memory and graphics side, would the current consoles be able to compete with pcs?

Both, but it's the GPU that affects it more. My CPU is somewhat old (E6600) but thanks to a good GPU I can run almost anything with good graphics and framerate.

Ram > gpu > cpu. Issue wise, CPU is a big bottleneck when you're doing physics, but usually it's upto the gpu to do it's job, and that's usually where the bottleneck is (after the ram that is, that's the first and most obvious bottleneck).

Consoles are pretty much excelling in their specific departments, with ps3 leading the pack.

That statement makes your sig SO ironic. :P Anyway, the main complaint you hear from most developers is the RAM, but all of it is in need of an upgrade by now.

In order of bottleneck, I'd place it as: Ram > GPU >> CPU

As compared to modern PC's, yes they are.
