Fils-Aime: One of the things that, on one hand, I love and, on the other hand, that troubles me tremendously about not only our fanbase but about the gaming community at large is that, whenever you share information, the perspective is, 'Thank you, but I want more.' 'Thank you, but give me more.' I mean, it is insatiable.

"And so for years this community has been asking, 'Where's Pikmin?' 'Where's Pikmin?' 'Where's Pikmin?' We give them Pikmin. And then they say, 'What else?'

"For years, this community have said, 'Damnit Reggie, when you launch, you better launch with a Mario game.' So we launch with a Mario game, and they say, 'So what's more?'

"I have heard people say, 'You know, you've got these fantastic franchises, beyond what you're doing in Smash Bros., isn't there a way to leverage all these franchises?' So we create Nintendo Land and they say, 'Ho-hum, give me more.' So it's an interesting challenge."

http://kotaku.com/5920572/the-trouble-with-the-never+satisfied-gamer

I'm not sure. Sure, as a community we can be a bunch of **** at times/more often than not, but I don't think that Reggie quite have understood what it is gamers actually want. We've already seen several Mario games on the Wii/DS/3DS, Pikmin was more or less expected by now and NintendoLand is.. lulzy.. People wanted to see more AAA original titles and have Mario as the back-bone title and Pikmin as the return of a "classic".

I wouldn't exactly say that the Wii U launch is bad, but similar to the PS Vita it doesn't really wow anyone. I'm sure, however, the Wii-U will be fine, but I doubt I'll pick it up, unless of course Nintendo is going to somehow surprise me, something which I doubt they'll do.

Guess what Reggie? That applies to most jobs, especially so in the entertainment field. You just gotta let that sh*t slide and keep doing the best job you can.

reggie fails to understand the difference between NSMBU and a real Mario game. Either is damage control or he really doesn't understand the difference between a core Mario game and a casual mario game.

I personally wasn't expecting a Mario at launch so its not a problem for me. As Iwata put it its better to slowly release these things over time instead of all at once.

Yes they are. Blizzard gives us one of da best games of the gen (Diablo 3) and all gamers do is b*tch. *sigh* I don't want to refer to myself as a gamer anymore. The term feels like it should be reserved for spoiled douche bags with a false sense of entitlement.

no offense, Reggie but pikmin was never that big of a franchise sales wise and the new super mario bros 2 which doesn't look like it really takes advantage of the wii-u power is very dissapointing, the game looks like it belongs on the wii. Super mario galaxy 3 as a launch title would have been amazing. Your going to need more then old ports and old tricks to impress this gen.

New Super Mario Bros. is fine on a handheld but IMO it sucks as a console game. It's not on the level of a Super Mario Galaxy so, I can understand why people aren't satisfied with that. Pikmin also while a well liked game isn't a killer ap OMG I need a Wii-U title. Outside of that the Wii-U launch looks weak besides the new Rayman.

In this case they aren't. The question wasn't only "Where's Pikmin?" it was really "Where's all those old franchises you guys have but refuse to use?" which is why people always ask "What else?" and as for the mario game, wow a mario game is coming, we so didn't know that was going to happen :|. People want to be surprised Pikmin wasn't even one, if you threw out a new starfox/metroid/fzero/ and maybe a good third party exclusive (any combination of two of those) people wouldn't even be asking questions.

I think that Fils-Aime well realises that one or two games don't make your entire E3 a success. In my personal experience, people were actually very hopeful over the conference when they announced Pikmin 3 at the beginning, going as far as to say Nintendo instantly won E3. But if you start on a high and subsequently offer bucketloads of information that the 'core gamer'* frankly just not really care about, you shouldn't be surprised when many of these gamers end up being disappointed by your conference as a whole.

Of course, there is no satisfying some people, but if you combine the reactions on forums such as this with the reception by the press, it's pretty safe to conclude that the disappointment had more to do with Nintendo failing to deliver enough news that is of interest to our demograph, than it did with gamers being insatiable.

*I mean core gamers in the sense of people who care enough about gaming to post their opinion about it on an internet message board

True, but I didnt really take it as Reggie being pissed... just a bit frustrated by the never ending battle.

But the thing is even if Nintendo put out a powerhouse machine rendering visuals on par with the top PC titles and managed to have a launch title for each major series under their belt along with a slew of new AAAE IPs and an overflow of 3rd party support... people would still say "cool, what else?"

There is no end to the tunnel so he shouldnt be bothered by it I guess is what I'm saying.

Oh and before anyone thinks this is a "leave Nintendo alone!" post, no, this applies to Sony and MS exactly the same.

He wasn't really complaining. But I think this might be bit a swipe at Nintendo's own "fans" though.

Sure he was complaining, or rather defensively reflecting criticism.

While he made sure not to be specific, he was obviously adressing the concerns and criticisms of the WiiU's power.

He should have kept his comments on consumers short, instead of venting his frustrations with consumers; it's just not proffesional, or even fair, in this situation.

He mention's the "too little, too late sentiments" concerning Pikmin.... Well, shut it Reggie! The fans who know Pikmin played it almost a decade ago, of course it's not going to be a megaton....

Edit:

Also...

"Fils-Aime:"It's not a question of understanding. I think people understood what we showed. It's the question of, as a gamer, 'Is this for me and something I can get excited about?' AndWii Fitdid not get that reaction. And yet 43-million copies around the world, it's a phenomenon. And so I would argue that the gaming community actually is unable to differentiate between a phenomenon and something that is 'ho-hum.'"

Me:"Until they play it.""

I see his point, but Nintendo made their own reputation in the past for blow-out-of-the-water E3's. PS. also not everyone's a fan of Pikmin.

Gamers simply don't trust Nintendo after this gen. They completely abandoned their loyal supporters to get the casual cash cow. Their main hardcore ips have sat for years with no releases. (F-Zero, Starfox, Pikmin, etc)

Nintendo is getting as arrogant as Sony circa 2006.

If this is really all they can say after E3, it's worrying. Maybe they need a bad launch to wake them up, like with the 3DS.

Reggie gotta love the ridiculous, the guy's basically a spinning machine. How there are people that can take him seriously is beyond me because he's nothing more than a joke. An internet meme.

Not too long ago Iwata was saying how they didn't cater to the core with the Wii and that hey would do better with the Wii U while Reggie was on the other side saying the opposite (that they been always catering to the core since the Wii).

Not just gamers. Almost all articles I've seen thinks Sony had a better E3 than Nintendo. That is remarkable since Sony was promoting a dying console, Nintendo a brand new one. The lineup they had at E3 was simply a bit weak.

There is nothing to complain about when it comes to the launch window lineup, you can't expect EAD Tokyo / Retro games day 1, those are holiday 2013 titles.

It is the E3 that was disappointing because you expect to see those 2013 games at E3 2012, not mere months before they launch, we just have to get used to this new format from Nintendo :)

I am a huge Nintendo fan and have much respect for Reggie but that statement is just laughable. Honestly just laughable. So by that premise, anytime someone asks for something and when they receive that product, it should be instantly satisfying? The answer is no...There is a word called, "execution," and that is what determines peoples appetite for any product. People want things to be either high caliber or from a unique prospective, none of which Pikmin, Mario Wii-U, and especially Nintendo Land exhibited.

Need examples? Look at Take2, Blizzard, Valve...ect. Developers that don't bother to give the audience quantities but rather the quality of their work. What everyone wanted from the E3 presentation and from Nintendo is that top quality "next-gen" (hate that term) looking title that really excite peoples interest. Instead we get Pikmin 2.5, Mario Wii-U which if they bothered to put the time and quality like 3D Mario games maybe, just maybe we might get a good 2d Mario platformer. At lastly Nintendo Land which is just looks pathetically sad. Where is the execution Reggie? Everyone sees rushed games, but where is the quality? It is just redundant, and I am somewhat glad Nintendo is feeling the heat under their ass because they really gotta step up their game. Just way too passive this year.

Reggie needs to pull his head out of whatever hole its jammed in and quit this arrogant, damage control crap. The WiiU has so far not had anyone sitting on the edge of there seat and that's the reason people have not been jumping all over it. When you hype up you machine to be more powerful then anything out at the moment and then fail to even show it then you can expect some backlash. I'm normally one to sing the praises of Nintendo but with the WiiU I have found myself stuck on the fence and i'm not sure myself if it will be worth investing in unless it shows more to grab my attention.

It's "superb" is it?

Definitely. Not often you see multiple games of high caliber near launch: Pikmin 3, NSMB U, Rayman Legends, Zombi U, P-100. Only positive things came from the press who got to try these games. I personally can't see myself affording all these retail games alone for Wii U considering the massive onslaught of 3DS games coming up, so for me this holiday is packed and my wallet is ready.

I thought message boards loved Rayman Origins, why is there no hype surrounding Rayman Legends? I remember GT's podcast thought it was one of the best games of the show, mostly because it showed something entirely fresh with its unique use of asymmetric gameplay. All I heard from posters was "lol, this is not a Wii U exclusive" instead of "I'm interested". The bias shines through.

I can agree with Reggie here. I Think he needs to understand that everyone wants different things, and you can't please everyone. I personally think reggie does a pretty good job besides the localization stance he has. The people who expected fzero, Zelda, smash bros, and star fox all at launch were unrealistic. Maybe i'm wrong but I highly doubt even if all that was released at launch people would actually be able to buy/have time too genuinely play and enjoy all that. Was e3 disappointing? Yea, but it wasnt nearly as bad as people want to say it was. JMO
