If you look at the typical PC exclusive game, you'll see they're pretty complex and/or require a lot of dedication. I'm talking about various complex strategy games, simulations, RPGs and so on. So it's not surprising to me that many gamers rather play console games or atleast action-type games. It's kinda logical that Mass Effect is more popular than, say, Baldur's Gate II. That game would be just too hardcore for most people. And I personally also prefer the action-oriented games to too complex games.

Simulators and RTS games are very complex. But the PC has a whole range of games, you can have flight simulators, but you also have farmville, and everything in between.

I totally see what you mean. So me and my buddy Steve Jobs have been discussing a few things and we've decided to help you. Introducing the "Easy"-button.

Everytime you press this thing something will explode, or at the very least something awesome is going to happen. This is going to change everything, all over again.

TC... complexity is in the Eye of the beholder:

Here is a PC exclusive . Console players could easily play this if they enjoy this genre. Offcourse game can be complex for pc gamers just as it can be "complex" for console players. This is just a example.. Offcourse there games of "complexity" on all platforms but your argument seems very odd.

Can I get where you think "many gamers rather play consoles games.."? Your generalizing ALOT Nameless.

I see you stated this is not a Anti - Pc thread but can you show me how its not? your stating Pc games are to complex thus "many games [would] rather play console games". No idea where your getting this but this is a poor way to go against Pc gamers.

Not the ones I've played. The ones I've played are simple enough to be fun, but also have enough options of gameplay so that you can approach it how you want.

BTW, the reason that console games are seen as "simple" (which, admittedly, most of them are) is because devs make it that way. If Atlus can make a game as ocmplicated as Knights in the Nightmare on a handheld, I'm sure most devs could create complex games on consoles. but, those usually odn't sell very well, so they'll stick to more simple types of games.

Well you have some pretty hardcore games on consoles too but they're not complex. It's more about the difficulty.

Whoops, my mistake. Either way, it's a complex game, which shows that they can be done on both handhelds and consoles.

lol. Most of the games are the same. The only reason the ones that are exclusive to PC seem "complex" is because they are too complex for consoles. Does that mean their too complex for console gamers to enjoy? Well, I guess that's up to the gamer. I'm mostly a console gamer, and I do find games like Total War a bit complicated, but if I really wanted to play it I would just have to deal with the learning curve. Resonance of Fate was a lot like that - very steep learning curve.

Does it make a difference? I enjoy my classical music, and I enjoy my rock music, and all their variations; and for video games I enjoy my complex games and the simplistic ones. Play a wide variety of games, don't just limit yourself to one genre or complexity of games.

sadly on console you are stuck with how complex your games get.

Yes, it seems so. :P Na, I believe what he is getting at is that developers aren't making games like that anymore because a lot of people don't want to devote themselves to the game enough to master all its inner complexities. Kids these prefer instant explosions and flashy magic to anything that requires them to think too much.

Complexity is something you see on PC because it's less risky (as in cheap) to develope very complicated PC titles with new gameplay ideas than it is to develope a console game that requires heavy funding, is possibly over-quality controlled by the console maker, requires royalty, publisher advertisement, etc, which drives up the cost of development. Also we have customizable controls which allow us to really set things up for us, as compared to a console game where only so much can be done on a controller.

But it's this streamlining of games that makes console games tend to be what they are. The audience is used to it being the status quo. It's not as much about hardcore or not as much as it is about game design. There are hardcore games on consoles and PC. It's just less risky to make PC games and try new things on the platform, hence why the PC is the best way in for pioneering visionaries and indie developers getting into commercial game development. Minimal risk, minimal costs, heavy rewards, huge audience and install base, plus no one to control them or their destiny like MS, Sony, or Nintendo would. Once a dev has made a name for themselves on PC, they can usually start developing on console along with PC to reach the absolute widest audience. Basically consoles benefit from the pioneering aspect of the PC.

And I personally also prefer the action-oriented games to too complex games.

nameless12345

All I get from your post and the subsequent hilarious comments is that PC games are just too complex for console gamers because of their intelligence and short attention span and that you are one of those who can't handle the complexity of PC games because it's WAY TOO "HARDCORE" for them and apparently you.

So, you are saying PC gamers are HARDCORE. I will dig that. ;)

not all games have to be complex to the point where you take months to even grasp core mechanics. not everyone has that much time on their hand. id much rather get a ten hour blockbuster experience like uncharted 2, than spend days grasping the concept of a game like shogun 2 and then playing hours on end trying to master it. i play games to have fun/ relieve myself from reality for that time that I play. I don't need to waste my time managing menus etc.

Another pc gamer that is more interested in feeling special than actually having fun with games.

WoW and The Sims have long been top selling pc games and have plenty of children playing them. Baldur's Gate II came out years ago and I could just as easily compare it to complex RPGs on the PS1.

You It's possible to own an gaming pc and not develop a lame elitist attitude. But maybe you need the extra ego boost in your life.

P.S. I play on both pc and consoles.
