First of all, I would just like to say that I tend to stay out of debates because people refuse to believe anything other than what they want to. When I do respond to a thread; I typically admit when someone has gotten the best of me. But with all the threads going around saying ps3 will win this gen, or ps3 will fail this gen. Even the ones saying wii will be the best system; just looks at the sales.... I just don't get it. I would also like to state that I own a wii, ps3, and used to own a 360 before I sold it.

But anyway, is there satisfaction with the fanboys for stating which game system will fail? In all reality, have the people stating this even played the other systems. I mean honestly, because my wii hasn't been touch in 6 months and the only game I was interested in was wii sports. Its a good thing that game came with the wii. The only reason I sold my 360 was because I had already bought two over time, and have given up on the 360 after buying my third. My ps3 has given me the most satisfaction in gaming since the first xbox(1) and my Nintendo 64 lol. I hear people saying the ps3 has no games; The number of games are low but they are all amazing. Plus 2008 is the ps3's big year from what I hear. The 360 has a bunch of games, which are all pretty decent. The wii has provided some fun for when my friends do a big gathering, but that is basically it...sorry I dont seem to have anything good to say about wii, but to be honest I really regret buying it.

So Im asking if sales really matter to the gaming community? Can you enjoy game systems(or hate them) for what they are... Are you an open minded person, or are you just one of those people that want to go with the crowd.

I think that sales do matter, as devs are persauades to put their games on the successful console(s). I forgot who said it, but they said that a sign that a console is healthy is that it is getting bad software. (Anubis II, Ninjabread Man). Sales always are important, would you rather a console with 200,000 base or a 20,000,000 base.

But I never read NPD or anything, so I truthfully have no idea how many anythings have been sold.

they should matter to some degree even though its far from the most important thing but if nobody is developing for a system because of low sales then you should probably think twice about buying it getting a sound investment for your money is just as important as the game you currently want to play on your system

Sales give indication to popular opinion, so in theory, the more sales a console has, the more people prefer that console over the others on the market.

Yea, I wouldn't go with that comparison. Fifty-cents game outsold Okami. And I can tell your right now Okami > Fifty-cents: bulletproof, or whatever the hell it was called.

sales matter, get over it everybody.

psp software sells like crap = ds gets more games

gamecube sold like crap = no third party support

ps2 hardware and software sells amazingly = more and better games than the xbox/cube

japanese rpg's and cartoony games sell terribly on the 360 = 360 doesn't get many of these games

shooters sell best on the 360 = 360 has the most shooters

those aren't coincidences you know. the sales of hardware and software have a huge effect on a consoles library of games, therefore, sales are a big deal to gamers.

No, only to losers who cry about dumb things instead of enjoying what is supplied to them. I have everything since Atari 2600 and I'm happy with everything. To them sales are like the last piece of candy that a little child has, while they hold it taunting you "ha ha ha ha ha" they don't know you could just clunk them on the head and take it, then say "ha ha ha ha ha".

A game selling well has nothing to do with ones enjoyment of said game.. and i'm sure sales don't matter to casual gamers(except those who are interested in sales in general);

however, as devoted gamers sales should matter to us. That doesn't mean they determine quality, 50cent bulletproof selling better then zack and wiki doesn't make it a better game. Sales drive the industry.. we should want good games to perform well. This encourages creativity and risk taking, publishers will be more willing to back interesting ideas. Sales increase the probability of sequels, among other things. Look at Trauma Center on the Wii, it sold well enough that Atlus was willing to back TC: new blood.

Sales also affect developer support and the direction of the industry. The success of the DS led to the Wii. How will the success of the Wii affect the PS4 and next-xbox? Do you think it won't?

Sales are important, whether you're a gamer, an investor, or an analyst.

Also, I like how you say that gamers shouldn't be bashing other systems, and you turn around in the same post and bash the Wii. Nice going TC. I love systems wars logic

Sales matter to me as a gamer... but even moreso, I just enjoy keeping up to date with it as a hobby.

Sales matter. They do. There really isn't a way around that.

Hm? well Im sorry you are ignorant(no offence) but I was not bashing. I was clearly stating that I personally regret buying the system. I never said that it flat out LICKS IT! Dont judge me..ok? Read my statement starter and you will clearly see I am not bashing it. It was all based around personal opinions bud

I do care for sales that games are making. I like to see a good game sell good. Ex. Mass effect. It assures that a sequel might be made and I like the developers to get something back after all the hard work they put into games. That's why I want NG2 and other hardcore games to sell well.

games are a big deal. you can't play sales. for example we all know wii is selling the most, but i don't give 2 s**** about it. the wii, by far, has the weakest game library.

They have to be. If what your playing isnt selling then youll get ports and less games. Im a big PC gamer and ive seen many of my favorite games get taken over by the Xbox beacuse they sell better.

Sales do matter, especially if you're a huge fan of the game and you want to see more of it. Look at some of gaming's failed games which were critically hailed, don't think we'll be seeing a sequel to a flop in sales. Only 5% of companies take that risk to appease their fans, the others just see that dolla bill.

Sales don't really matter all that much for me...because I follow where the games are for the most part. If a system has no games that interest me, I'm not gonna buy it. That's why I bought all the consoles last gen, and more than likely will this gen.

even if you do own all consoles. clearly you want all to be good. what's the point of owning any console if it's got poor sales and games stop coming (like say ngage or game gear or sega cd etc)

Sales matter in an abstract sense.

Do I enjoy my 360 more because it sells well? In a way, yes. If it did not sell well there would be less games to buy for it.

Do I enjoy a game more because it sells well? No, but I may be much more excited about the possibility of a sequel, or new titles from the developer, if it sells well.

I'd say ratings more than sales, however if a game sells well, its most likely due to reviews..

Hm..

I'd say yes they are a big deal, but only just.

Sales ARE important, don't kid yourselves otherwise.

Sales determine the future of a console, I think that's reason enough to care.
