Gears of War 2. Call of Duty: World at War. Left 4 Dead. These games are too over-hyped, and make me want to puke.
So it leads to this. Are shooters THAT good?
No.

I occasionally play Halo 3, so it doesn't mean I TOTALLY hate shooters.I1yodsyo1IWhich gen have you started gaming? I assuming this or one before.
i am getting sick of all the shooters coming out for consoles, but looking at sales they seem to be the ones that sell the most so you wont see developers strive for some thing any time soon. But even though i am getting sick of shooters on consoles, playing shooters on the pc never seems to get old lol
Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't good.foxhound_foxOf course not. What makes it 'not good' is the fact that most shooters these days are boring, formulaic crap. There's two types of console shooters these days: 1: Meathead "macho" soldiers kill aliens in gloomy, dark, gritty environments 2; Soldiers fight in wars in gritty, wartorn cities Yawn. And good genres are ignored or snuffed out completely because devs want moar moar moar shooters because that's what the little 360/PS3 casuals love.

RE1 and RECVX are not shooters but adventure games.. of course there are some shooting elements in it but its not the main part of the game
A lot of shooters are in fact pretty boring. Particularly the ones that limit themselves to shooting, shooting and only shooting... on rails, and with realistic weapons only. Shooters like Halo or shadowrun are more interesting. If a shooter is realistic, some of the things that can make it interesting are squad control, excellent AI with open world, or good use of vehicles. I tend not to like shooters that have neither of those.11Marcelthats a pretty accurate observation a lot of shooters have small bits of different gameplay in them to compensate the boring repetitive shooting play halo has the warthog driving bits in there.. half life, call of duty has the cinematic narrative..
I don't like run-gun and jumping like bunny FPS but i found tactical shooter and third person shooter with cover system enjoyable.
TC try Brother in Arms: Hell Highway, GRAW and alike for tactical shooter. Gears of War 2 for third person shooter with cover system. Any others? i could use some recommendation from other poster too.

Is it because he plays Halo 3? I started gaming back on the NES, played every PC shooter there is to play and every console shooter worth playing. There are only three shooting games I play, Halo 3, Halo 2 and SOCOM 2. (Notice 2 last gen games, also the last gen that will ever have a game that takes skill, so I would like to thank all you casuals who swear you are hardcore for messing up a genre, so please don't cry when people mess up your genres)
I think there are three categories of people. 1. People who absolutely love shooting games and can't get enough. 2. People whose first shooting game was Golden Eye or Halo and still find the genre fresh. 3. People who have played FPSes since the early 90s and have grown tired of them. I fit into the third category. While I no longer like shooting games very much, that doesn't mean the games are bad. The formula I find tiresome is still new to a lot of people this generation. Other players will probably like shooting games for life, just like you may enjoy golf, football, basketball, and so on.juno84
I've been playing first person shooters since the late 90's and I still love the genre to this very day. I still love games like Halo and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare dearly and cannot wait to get Left 4 Dead and Far Cry 2 under the Christmas tree this upcoming holiday.
truly, yes!
i find that as the fps genre becomes more popular devs find ways of keeping it interesting. for example, i can't think of any (good?) third person shooters from other gens.
imagine someone gave you a copy of call of duty 2 back in '98 when you were stuck playing doom or whatever. you'd know the innovation.
Shooters tend to get very derivative, with barely anything separating themselves from their 'inspirations.' That's my problem with games in general, I think. Once a studio finds a selling formula, they are under obligation by their publishers to keep making derivative games as long as they sell. Of course, games like Bioshock and Okami have started to buck this trend.Lord__DarkstornThis.
Yeah. We're drowning in a wave of one FPS after another... and I couldn't be happier about it.lowe0
That makes two of us, I love shooters, all kinds, from shooting aliens and zombies, to war, bring 'em on. I don't really care for jrpgs but I'm not gonna bash the genre or the people that do like it. To each his own I guess.

depends on what you think is good. they are not hte ebst looking games adn the stories pretty much suck. its the repplay value. something about shooting your friends just makes it that fun. and isnt that what video games are suppose to be...fun.Eh... I love shooters, I love platformers, I love RPGs, I love most genres. I think they all bring something to the table, and none of them are more generic than another. I find it pitiful when fanboys like you make posts like this, as if because you don't like something, it automatically makes it terrible. rolo107Exactly. A good game is a good game. Genre is irrelevant. Surely you can appreciate or at least acknowledge that there are good shooters out there?
All i play are shooters. Stop hating on things that you dont understandkrp008
You need to play other genres then. Can't just limit yourself to just one kind of game. I'm a big believer in trying new things. I'm mostly in to games that involve using your head or have brilliant level designs. I would be Ok if shooter took up 10-20% of the industry, but it takes up about 90%. This is very wrong. We need veriety. Where's the platformer these days? I personally dislike shooters (mostly the competitave ones like Halo, CoD, and GOW), but that is just opinion. However pretty much everything Valve makes is gold so...
