I don't hate them as long as they are used with a purpose. If it's being used as a major feature of the game, then they did something wrong. If they use in a way that makes the game more fun/interesting, then I'm ok with it. I think Shadow of Mordor did it well. Most Sony games do them ok, except for The Order. That shit was all over the place. What about you, SW? Are you a fan of quick time events?

It was cool when first used in the Shenmue days but should have been retired shorty thereafter. :P

Yeah, I like them myself as long they don’t have ridiculously short timing windows, awkward button configurations, and/or random button prompts.

Shenmue used them right. Games like Tomb Raider and Resident Evil abused it.

Depends how it's used but usually no. Especially as the x button is in a different place depending on which platform I'm playing on. Also my reactions are pretty slow if I'm blazing. DEAD cus didn't press x in time. No thanks...

You forgot about Uncharted there buddy. :P You can't use Tomb Raider and forget about Uncharted. It is just as guilty as the rest of them.

There hasn't been a single game where I've liked them.
QTE are piss poor game design.

@Xabiss: I was giving examples, not listing every game that's used them. That said, you're correct. Golden Abyss on PSV was especially bad at implementing them.

In games with focus on gameplay, no, but i don't mind in story driven games, like from Quantic Dream, Tell Tale, etc..

@Litchie: lazy yet the animation takes more skill and hard work than a generic press square 3 times then traiangle after combos game. Or avg fps actions

On the eye it looks lazy. Especially if your too narrow headed to see the rest of the games gameplay. Actions sequences can take hard work weather or not only you decied to press a certain button or not.

Qtes bring complementary quick thinking multi anticapated fun when done right.

With your logic guitar hero is lazy and all songs on extreme are automatically easy since they consist of nothing but QTEs

As long as they are not overdone they can break up a game nicely.

I'm going with a kinda here. If it's just some crappy "Press X to continue the cutscene or Press Y at the right moment during a cutscene" it's crap. If it is used to force you into making a decission fast (sometimes used in TellTale games or stuff like Heavy Rain) it can work pretty good. Where QTEs shiny though is in Rhytm games. When the pressing of the buttons is perfectly worked into the sound of a level, it becomes pretty good. This can be your classic Hatsune Miku game or something else like Rayman Legends. While it is a Platformer, some levels are pretty much QTEs:

QTE is the unequivocal antithesis to interactive gameplay (as defined as non-linear control) player agency, and immersion. When you get right down to it, it's a crutch for creative control and game design.

If they're done right like in Shenmue, Yakuza, and Vanquish, then yes. Most games don't though.

It was okay as a finisher in old GoW games but the current QTEs and button prompt at every instance of action like climbing a ladder or a ledge, jump etc is extremely shitty and insulting.

Yeah... hell yeah

If used in small doses it can fit nicely. Krauser fight was dope in RE4. Same with torture rack in Metal Gear.

Too much of it gets tiring.... like every kill in GoW. The animation bores you after a bit and breaks up the flow.

I don't mind them in certain games given the right context, for instance to ungrapple with an enemy, or like in God of War games as execution QTEs mid-combat. Not a fan of cutscene QTE. Don't mind it in story driven games like Telltale games or David Cage games, lately Telltale made it so not doing QTE actions doesn't really have consequences, I dislike this. Failing a QTE should not be a game over but should play a part in outcome in such games, just as choices do.

if it has a purpose and doesn't seem like a cop out i don't mind them. that being said, there's not very many i can think of that actually felt good.

@SolidGame_basic: I used to think it was amazing on God of War and Resident Evil 4, not so much now, I don't "hate it" like most gamers tho, it's just "meh" It was cool on Heavy Rain as well.

Nope. Terrible, lazy ass game design. They're just snuck into cutscenes because "muh immersion" and "player involvement"
