Manticore, as in, owns all systems. I guess since I don't have an Xbox anymore, I can't really be considered one. But I have most current systems (PS4, Switch, PC, 3DS, and uh.. Vita?). What about you, SW? Are you in the manticore boat? Or loyal to a select few?

I own everything but the switch, i will most likely purchase one later this year

I still have preferences though, still use my pc for mmos/rts/mobas with a side of OW

Use my xbox for everything else, especially sports games.

Use my ps4 for the yearly exclusives

Really wanna try the new mario though

I had to google the actual definition of it.

Manticore = a mythical animal typically depicted as having the body of a lion, the head of a man, and the sting of a scorpion.

hmm... ... ...

I have been, but I don't own an Xbox any more and may well never again if they retain their current model - which is fine, they get my business either way if I buy a game from them for Windows.

Or, does that make me a manticore? Maybe it does... I know that whenever cows bash the lack of exclusives the rebuttal is that it's an MS platform so it still counts. Hm.

I sold the PS4 Pro, PSVR, and then built a 2nd PC and bought a Xbox One X to rid myself of the rash owning Sony hardware caused.

Being a manticore proved to be too much for my current lifestyle. I would go weeks without turning certain consoles on. At least now I can play the same library no matter where I am in the house. Xbox/PC and Switch (with multiple docks) made the most sense for me.

I still own all the current-gen consoles at my house but I gave my Xbox One to my 10yr Daughter cause she needed a Blu-Ray player and a current-gen console in her room and all I have now is:

  • PS4-Main all-around console
  • Nintendo Switch
  • PC-My ultimate gaming machine
  • 3DS

At this point, I honestly don't care if I'm consider a Manticore or not, even though I own all the consoles in the house, I just can't be bother with a exclusiveless console that is Xbox One.

Edit: The Manticore System Wars definition fell off the grid to some of us.

I guess, because brand loyalty has never gotten in my way for having fun. If a system has games on it that I want, I'll get it.

I've always bought them all. I do have my preferences, but there is always games on all the platforms that I enjoy. Currently I do not have a ps4. I sold my ps4 shortly before the pro released with intentions on picking up a pro. I never ended up picking one up. At first I decided that I'd wait till after that Christmas because I have 3 kids to buy for. Then after Christmas I became focused on getting the switch at launch. Since then I haven't really thought about it. I do all my gaming on my pc (i7 7700k&gtx 1070) and switch. My xbox one has been in my son's bedroom for over a year, so it's basically his now. He plays it daily, but I don't have a need to play it. We have a 3ds xl, 2ds, and a vita layin around the house somewhere. A modded Wii stays hooked up in our living room. I use to always keep a gc hooked up in the living room because we love playing the old Mario party games, but I replaced it with a Wii because I never could get gc component cables at a reasonable price.

@SolidGame_basic:

Almost...I own these so far:

Ps1/2/3/4

PSP/Vita

Xbox original/360/One

Nintendo Gamecube/Wii/WiiU

Nintendo DS/3DS

Sega Dreamcast (barely works)

All I'm missing is a competent PC and a Switch.

I no longer play on PC, left it like a decade ago. Don’t own a Switch yet, but I do own:

PS4 fat

PS4 slim

X1S

Wii U

3 3DSXL

1 N3DSXL

3DS

Plus other stuff.

That makes me a manticore ? I don’t think it does, I think it makes me more somebody with more money than brains.

Moved away from consoles this generation PC only.

Last generation had PS3 and 360, Wii didn't interest me.

Kind of hard to be a manticore these days. It’s not like PC, ps4, and xbox have entirely different unique games like the old days.

I prefer PC, but still picked up a ps4 pro for a handful of games. Will probably get a switch as well, for a handful of games. Also own a 3ds, again for a small handful of games.

If X1X had any exclusives that I wanted to play, I’d probably pick that up as well.

I am, but I have lately been starting to think that perhaps owning everything is hurting my enjoyment of gaming since I have too many options available to me, but not enough time to enjoy all of them to the fullest. Maybe less is more?

Therefore, I have been strongly considering dropping my manticore status by getting rid of my PS4. I think that the only thing that has been stopping me from doing that is Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. I really don't want to give up that game, but if it is only a timed exclusive and eventually gets released on either the Xbox One or the Nintendo Switch like many rumors have been suggesting then I would probably get rid of my PS4 after that.

Yes and it’s dumb. Buying redundant hardware is the bane of console gaming yet stupid fanboys keep promoting this dumb setup that is anti gamer because of their fanboy fetish.

No and no.

I really dislike consoles and will only use them when I want to play an exclusive title. I just can't be bothered by the low frame rates and lack of options. I consider gaming one of my major hobbies and I'd like to get the best experience I can.

That said I have a PS4 and am looking to buy a Switch in addition to my PC.

I can never say that I am a manticore as I have strong preference towards Nintendo-developed games and buy the systems that played them. I am very indifferent towards games released on Sony and Microsoft systems.

A Nintendo fan but not fanboyish.., own a Switch, & a good gaming PC, plan to get PS4 down the line, still playing PS3 games (catching up)..lol.. ....motto is generally $$ should be spent on games...not on buying more systems. :P

Manticore as in owning all systems, nah, not this gen. Did that for gens 4, 5, 6, and 7, but only because each system gave me good enough reasons to own them.

I know it's silly to sweat the semantics of an esoteric SW term, but I don't subscribe to idea of a "manticore" being someone who simply owns all systems. You can own everything under the sun and still be biased as fvck. NyaDC was a legendary lem, just as SolidTY was a master cow, regardless of them owning impressive collections of systems.

I think being a Manticore is much more simple than that. Just means you don't fanboy over a box. You don't choose to like or dislike a game based on the system that plays it. It's the games that make the box and inform your preference, not the other way around.

It's not some hippie shit either, doesn't mean you love all things equally, it's just that your preferences are guided by something more meaningful than corporate slave fvckery. Basically just means you're not an idiot.

I consider a dude like Archangel3371 to be more of a Manticore than a lot of the multi-system owners here, even if he only owns an Xbox.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to own all systems to be called a manticore. Manticore is just not being brainwashed into loving one company, while hating on others. Just, you know, being objective.

That aside, I do fit you edefinition of a manticore. I do however only rarely play on my xOne because I get multiplats on other systems.

My stuff. Got all consoles at launch except for the xOne:

High end PC (Intel i7 8700k, Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition 11G, MSI Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon, Nzxt Phantom 820, G.Skill Trident Z RGB 2 x 8 GB DDR4-RAM 3000 MHz, be quiet! Dark Rock PRO 3, Corsair RM750x White (750W), Samsung 850 EVO Basic (500GB, 2.5"), WD Black Performance 2 TB HD)

Notebook: Lenovo Y70-70

Ps4 Pro, original Ps4, both Vita models

Switch, 3DS, 3DS XL, new 3DS XL

xOne

On mobiles I only have Android, but that's enough IMO

On VR I have the HTC Vive, PsVr and both DevKits of the Oculus Rift, didn't want the Consumer model after they got bought by Facebook

Tvs: Sony S9005B (65'', 4k, Curved) and Samsung UE55KU6170 (55", 4K, Curved, HDR)

old PC: Intel i5 2500k, 2x GTX 970 SLI (Asus), Gigabyte Z68X-UD4 B3, Corsair DDR3 1600MHz 16GB (4x 4GB), Corsair series 3 (550 MB/s) 120GB SDD

I don't own all the systems only because of a lack of funds. I'd most likely have them all if I had a bunch of disposable income to blow on whatever I wanted.

Ha, you'd be surprised man.

I'm sure you remember WilliamRLBaker, one of the biggest Xbox fanboys this board has ever known, still owned a PS3. Countless examples of people from this forum over the years that are like that, but I've even known a few in real life.

It's just a weird ass mindset that people have man.

And having enough disposable income to buy all the consoles doesn't mean much. I could head up to Walmart right now and buy an Xbone for every room in my place, wouldn't change my opinion on the system just because I can afford it, right?

Owning something doesn't absolve a person of strong bias. I own seats of Modo and 3D Studio Max, I'm still a Modo fanboy all day. And those programs cost far more than consoles lol.

Owning something doesn't absolve a person of strong bias. I own seats of Modo and 3D Studio Max, I'm still a Modo fanboy all day. And those programs cost far more than consoles lol.

I'm not saying it doesn't absolve them from bias, nor am I saying being able to have disposable income does either. I'm saying if you are willing to buy it and play games on it, then you're not a fanboy in the truest sense. Also, you may think that people here are fanboys when they're actually fakeboys.

I love the good old, "I own all systems therefore I'm not biased/I'm neutral" thing. Gives me a good chuckle everytime. Like everytime a new system comes out does this person sit there behind their computer and go "oh man I gotta buy this thing otherwise my rep is on the line!". Oh man...

Anyway Gen 7 was the only one I had them all. Wii/PS3/360/PC.

Always will buy a console if it has games so the answer is yes.

  • PC - Had a 780 Ti that I dropped/broke while moving and got a R9 380 as a temp card till I got the GTX 1080 Ti
  • Switch Neon and a 128GB Sandisk
  • PS4

Last Generation I had:

  • PS3 Slim
  • X360
  • PC - 8800 GTS upgraded to a HD 4890 and then a GTX 680
  • 3DS XL

Generation before:

  • GameCube
  • PS2
  • PC - MX 440 upgraded to a 6600GT
  • DS

I will buy anything and everything if it has games I want to play on it, if I had a choice I would buy the PC version because I like having a smooth experience and PC can give that to you.

Owning all systems doesn't make someone a manticore. I'm a manticore as far as owning all systems but I'm so anti-cow that I'd be considered a lem.

Ha, you'd be surprised man.

I'm sure you remember WilliamRLBaker, one of the biggest Xbox fanboys this board has ever known, still owned a PS3. Countless examples of people from this forum over the years that are like that, but I've even known a few in real life.

"Now you see "multi-system owners" in place of this formerly common name, although don't be mistaken, a multi-system owner is not impartial towards all systems like a manticore."
