I started playing the Persona series with Persona 4 Golden. Still one of the best JRPG's, and the Vita was perfect for it. I've also played Persona 5, Persona Dancing All Night, and I recently picked up Persona Q. I never played 3 or the earlier games, although I would like to try 3. Maybe if they did a remake I would be all in. How about you, SW? Are you a Persona fan? What Persona games have you played?

I am. I played Persona 4 and 5. Both games are majestic, the music is groundbreaking, and gameplay is cool. I have always wanted to play Persona P3P on the PSP but it's soo expensive to get a physical copy of it. Same applies with Persona Q. I would LOVE to play Persona 4 Golden on the PS Vita, but I do not want to splash the cash on a PS Vita just to play one game.

I would say Persona 4 is slightly better than Persona 5 in terms of my favourite Persona game. I have learnt that Persona games on portable consoles are expensive and a good investment.

I haven't.

I looked at P4 and realised I probably wouldn't enjoy it that much. It would be pearls before swine, no doubt!

I've played 3,4,5, some of the dancing games, Persona Q, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions (which is basically just streamlined Persona).

Man, that reminds me.. I have Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Still have yet to play it, haha. JRPG's are such a time sink.

I consider myself a fan. I've played P3 FES and P4 Golden, but still need to finish them. P5 though, I absolutely love, and have beaten multiple times. I've also played a little of the dancing games, but I'm not buying them for myself until they have better sales.

I started with persona 2 and have played them all except persona 5 dancing. Most favorite is 3, least is 4.

Not a fan at all. I played 3, 4 ,5. I made it to about 10 hours in 5 before quitting out of boredom. I lasted longer in P5 than the previous 2. It's a series that I really want to like, but it's not for me.

I've never played the games but for anybody who knows of them...what's the best one to start with? Or, in other words, what's the best game in general?

I’ve only played Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 Arena, I do have Persona 4 downloaded on my PS3 and really need to play it sometime. I do really like the franchise though and look forward to playing Persona 5 some day.

Generally people would point Persona 4 as having the best cast and best pacing of all persona games. Pick Persona 4 Golden if you have Vita cause its the best version (16:9 ratio, new content)

I'd go for Persona 5.

Persona 3 and 4 have their charms, but Persona 3's central dungeon is really boring, and Persona 4's levels are nowhere near as good as Persona 5's.

P4G on the Vita was one of the best gaming experiences of my life. That is an absolutely magical game. And P5 is no different in that respect. I've put in like 150 hours so far and still love every moment. So yeah, it's safe to say I'm a Persona fan. I have yet to play the earlier games though.

Ive played P3, p4g, and p5. P4g is my favorite because i strongly believe persona should be played on a handheld. I hope p5 makes its way to switch i might give it a second go.

@SolidGame_basic: Personal 3 Fes was my first, followed up by Persona 1 psp remake, and then Persona 2 Innocent sin PSP remake. I never got around to playing the original Ps1 Persona 2: eternal punishment. Wish I had the time to do so, maybe when I am old and retired.

After that I got the P3P remake on PSP (PSP was a gold mine of good jrpgs). Then got and played Persona 4 Golden (I owned the ps2 game but never got around to playing that version).

I also own Persona 5, I started it, but only played a little as I was working on a number of other games at the time. Never got back to it. One of these days.

Persona got me into SMT, which I bought and own Nocturne and got the collectors edition of Devil Summoner 2, both PS2 games. I also own strange journey on DS (great game), Devil survivor on ds, and SMT4 (first version) on 3DS.

An MS/Xbox cheerleader and anti-fan of the competing plastic boxes out there that drives the rabid, radicalized, death to all things Xbox, anti-fans, a little crazy now and again.

Geeezz, I thought that was obvious. lololol :P

Storytelling is done through a visual novel - like aesthetic, so they trimed out the 3D animations present while interacting in non-combat situations (exploration in non-combat situations is also done with a cursor rather than manually exploring with the 3D model) and the animated cutscenes. The result is that the pacing is significantly faster, as for whether or not that's a negative is up to you.

Combat was tweaked to bring the improvements present in Persona 4, so combat is definitely better in Persona 3 Portable than in Persona 3 FES (PS2 version). There's a new mode in which you can play as a female main protagonist (that's not in the PS2 version) that's really well made and contains a lot of differentiation from the male playthrough to make it worth your while.

Overall, it's the best version, but Persona 3 FES has better storytelling which creates a better atmosphere via manual exploration, 3D models interacting with one another and animated cutscenes.

Just play FES first, if you can't stomach the slower pacing, play P3P.

Not really. Started with 2, then played a pirated fan sub of the other 2 that only came out on Japan, not great games but good enough. Then tried 3 but never finished it, never liked the whole one dungeon crawling thing and the "date" system. Then played 4 and actually finished it because of the improved dungeons and the story itself despite of the "date" system. Don't have access to PS3/4 to try 5.

Played one of them way back on PS1 I think. Didn't care for it at all. Played an hour or two and was done. Never bothered again.

Yes. P5 is a gem. P4 is great, and so is 3. Dungeons aren't that good in P3 and P4, but they're old games and it's unfair to compare them to P5.

Music are excellent across the 3 ones (Ive never played P1 and P2 and the sequel).

I consider myself a fan of the series, tho I haven't tried SMT apart from Nocturne, which was just an hour of gameplay.

I'm not really a fan of the series but I took some enjoyment out of the ones I played

Out of those I played (Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5) this is how I feel:

Best Story - Persona 3

Best Characters - Persona 4

Best gameplay - Persona 5

since gameplay is the lesser thing I look for these type of games, Persona 5 is actually my least favorite and Persona 4 is the better one imo

Yeah, big-time. I played P3, then P3 FES, then P4G and P5. If you aren't pretty solidly interested, it's a hard series to get into... Most people want more freedom than spending time and chatting with someone to rank up a Social Link, but oddly, it's part of what gives the games their charms... The character progression is absolutely brilliant.

Yup, I'm a huge Persona fan. It was kind of like the saving grace of JRPG's during the decline of Final Fantasy. I've played Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5. I'd rate them:

Best Story: Persona 3

Best Characters: Persona 4 Golden

Best Gameplay: Persona 5

Overall I'd say Persona 4 and Persona 5 are tied for best Persona imo

I played 3fes and 4 Golden. For whatever reason I never bought 5, but if the Switch rumors are true, I will buy it there. Games like this are perfect for portability imo. Honestly, I would like 3 and 4 on the Switch too. It is a good series for sure.

Not a fan. I have played 4 and 5 though. Very high quality games, but I do not care for the high school characters in video games.
