Are you a real gamer?!?!?

Ok folks its been a long time coming but I cant stay quiet about this any longer. How many of you "gamers" are really interested in the software versus the console/company the title is on?

During my time on these boards you see nothin but fanboys on every front talking about their console, who is the best , etc. etc. My question to everyone is: ARE YOU REALLY A GAMER or just a pawn for Sony, MS, and Ninty?

If I lost anyone so far its cool, this topic is only for people with common sense (so I dont expect to get too many replies!!! :lol: )

If you were to strip the company name/logo/reputation from these consoles this gen and judge each one according to the software available for it (as of now, none of that potential bull), which console(s) would you choose? How would you choose? What features are more important to you as a gamer?

Every game I'm looking forward to being a AAAA game.

Not that its going to happen, but isn't that what every gamer really wants?

I would buy the xbox 360, and Wii,
xbox 360 as a main console, because I like the games, and the upcoming games, like mass effect, forza motorsport and alan wake. also blue dragon and lost odyssey. also I like the controll. it has nice fell to it, also the live support is awesome..but I would also change some stuff, like they dont have a hd player(same for if it is blue ray or hd-dvd) it is a pluss. 2 reasons, the dvd is much nice looking also that you inn the future and big games you dont have to change cds under the game. like inn blue dragon.

I would buy Wii because it is a very good party console, and a lot of fun to play. also it has some really cool games

the reason I would not buy a ps3 is because it is too expensive and the games is not that mature yet and not that many good ones compared to xbox 360 which is the counterpart but the blu-ray thing is awesome, and also the six Axis is very good but not as cool as the Wii controller which rock like hell...
but  the best is a computer if you have  the money for it!

As of right now, I would have to stick with the Wii. Why? Because it is the only one I can afford. I think that is a just reason to have only one console... atm. If I did have the money, however, I would have purchased the 360. The 360 has an amazing line-up of games and a solid on-line services despite the cost.coreygames

It just cracks me up how alot of people on these boards claim they are a hardcore gamers when they blindly back companies that are constantly doing things that undermind gaming. Each company has its pros and cons but in the end it should be about the games and how they entertained you..

Reading comprehension is fundamental my friend...There is nothin wrong with having a console preference(we all have them). The point of my topic is how most of the people that claim to be "gamers" are really just pawns hyping systems because their cool, not because they offer the best gaming experience.

My topic is no different from someone doing a blindfolded taste test of product versus its competitors. As the topic states, if you were to cut out all the PR bull and other crap used to hype these systems and weighed them based on the entertainment they would provide for you, which consoles would you pick?

As I told another gamer, there is nothing wrong with preference when it comes down to games. But honestly how many fanboys have you ran into on these boards spewing hype or trash about a console based solely on a company? As a old skool gamer who has seen the rise and fall of several companies during my decades of gaming I am simply voicing my disgust for these so-called "gamers" these days......

Even worse are those nutters that try to claim that they play "hardcore" games, or claim that they would never touch "kiddy" games, because they're "hardcore gamers".

Hardcore gamers are awesome.  However "Hardcore" gamers are just another term for fanboy. 

I'm interested in software above all else. I'm getting all three eventually.

To be honest? Not really. If all games were absolutely brilliant, I'd probably be frustrated as hell because there'd be so many amazingly enjoyable games, and I'd never be able to find enough time to finish them all. Let alone afford them. Besides which, if all games were AAAA, it'd be pretty redundant, as 'perfect' would become 'average', and consequently less interesting as a result. Personally, I think crap/bad/average/mediocre games NEED to exist, if only to make the true gems shine all that more brightly.

Me being an overly analytical a$$ aside, what I would truely want as a gamer is for older gaming technology (mainly software) to be readily available, and region uncoded. Of course, it's unrealistic to ask such a thing, but there were so many amazing games in previous generations that I missed due to minimal income. I never played a Dreamcast. I only have a few PS1 games, and never experienced the birth of many amazing franchises. I never owned an N64, and only briefly played some of the greatest games of all time. You get the point. There's so much still to discover, but as fewer and fewer copies of older, discontinued software exist, it becomes damn hard to track it down, especially when you live in a small town in Australia. Even Ebay isn't always enough here in AU.

Brand loyalty is one of, if not the, most important factor to any company selling a product. There is nothing wrong with being loyal to a brand name and defending it in a forum made specifically for that purpose. If you really can't take it any more then get out of system wars. The trolls, and fanboys in system wars aren't the problem. It's the whiney people that have no interest in arguing about the possible superiority of a console. It serves no purpose but to waste time, and argue with people in a moderated environment, if that's a problem, then get out. Point taken, but I will be more than happy to stomp on you with my rebuttal. There IS a problem with brand loyalty, it is a foundation that breeds lazyness in the industry over time. If you been keeping tabs on the trends of the industry all companies have their time to shine in the spotlight (Atari, Nintendo, Sega, Sony, MS), to offer gamers breath of fresh air that is needed in order to promote innovation while still providing great entertainment. But with all companies, while the original plan was to provide a exquisite gaming experience for its consumers, somehow that vison becomes tainted over time and profiability and all thats left is a sub-satisfactory experience and a empty wallet...."but hey, I got a ......... console!!!"

If it was up to gamers such as yourself that follows blindly based on brand loyalty, we would all be playing the new Atari Superstation 2500 with Dreamcast graphics because of the Atari's fear of surpassing arcades or PC. Instead of enjoying games that are different from the status quo, you rather stand by a company caught in a creativity rut just because its your favorite brandname. There is a reason why there are several consoles on the market that have different methods of enticing gamers and its called competition. Without competition there would be no reason for a company to drastically improve itself,  they would just make minor incremental changes and tout it as something new.

As for your "this is systems wars comment", Im fully aware of the forum I posted in which is why I asked this question. As rude and arrogance as your post may be at least it was real....Ask this same question in a dedicated forum (360, PS3, or Wii) and some spiteful fanboy will send the banhammer down whinning about trolling....

Thats the reason I created this topic, for the so-called gamers that consider themselves to be hardcore but hype everything including the kitchen sink for consoles: Blu-ray this, IPTV that, and lack of DVD, etc,etc...(noticed I mentioned sumthin about all the consoles...!) dont amount to nothing when the gamer fails to take advantage of what matters the most...THE GAMES!

I've already made my choice based on the games. That's why I have a 360. To me, it has the most solid lineup out of the 3. It has a lot of games I want to play available now.

I'm real. I play games and having played video games for over 20 years. Thus i'm a true gamer. What would make me happy? gaming becoming mainstream like movies. then we'd have much cheaper games with bigger budgets and a wider variety of games as well.

Ppl on this forum seem to think that gaming going mainstream would kill it. this is just foolish. The commercial aspect has already taken much of the soul of gaming. but at least with it being mainstream we can get a discount on the prices and more variety. I'm not just interested in shooters.

There are pros and cons for this subject and arguments for both sides are 100% valid.

Pro: Bigger budget, bigger games = more entertainment with higher quality.

Con: Bigger budget, less devs taking risks = cookie cutter games that sale, quality of games shot to sh!t....

But hey as gamers we have experienced greatness from different types of devs with drastically different budgets. Great games are basically in the heart of the dev IMO...thats why I enjoy being a gamer.

That is sumthin I been looking forward to for years but only had a taste of it recently when I bought New Super Marios Bros for the DS. It was refreshing to play Mario in its classic form while enjoying the benefits the hardware had to offer to enhance the experience. Why more dev with old skool franchises wont try this method is beyond me. How many franchises were ruined by devs that insisted the franchise needs to be on the 3D plane instead of revamping the techniques that made them popular in the first place?!? Its nice to take risks, but wen that experience doesnt work, its time to go back to what works....

Sonic is a blatant example of a franchise that needs some serious 2D action again....IMO!!!
