We are talking at the minimum of 5 years. And I'd be surprised if Microsoft introduces a new Xbox.-Karmum-
I don't have the quote saved, but I've seen a statement from Gates himself talking about how they're already working on the next.
Just to be on the safeside, which would you do. if microsoft rushed out a console before nintendo or sony then i would know thats a sign not to get one.xjet039
PS3 is on the "10 year plan", both Microsoft and Nintendo will release something new way before Sony.
After all the problems I had with my 360 I probably wait before I buy another xbox console and I doubt ms would release another xbox if this one fails to turn a profit also.
Sony may have said the PS3 will last 10 years, but that's ridiculously unlikely. I'm sure a PS4 will be out in a few years, around the same time as the next gen XBOX and the next nintendo...
if this one is called the Wii, the next one will probably be called the Nintendo Poo.

u have no clue,
PS2 is on 7 years now
PS1 lasted 5 before
PS2 lasted 6 before the PS3 came out
and now PS3 is ahead of its time so PS4 wont be out till 2014-15 at the VERY EARLIEST

The PS3 may be "ahead of its time" right now, but in six years, it's whopping 256mb of ram, and 2x BD-ROM drive will seem dated. The average lifespan of a console is five or six years. How do you think the general public will react when they see MS and Nintendo throwing out a new console and Sony still giving us the same one? I don't imaging it going very well.[QUOTE="xjet039"]Just to be on the safeside, which would you do. if microsoft rushed out a console before nintendo or sony then i would know thats a sign not to get one.umcommon

Sony never said they won't release the PS4 at around the same time as the others. All they said was that they won't abandon the PS3 when the PS4 comes out (they haven't with the PS1 and PS2). PS1 was supported until 2005; PS2 is on its 7th year. When they say 10 year lifespan, they mean you don't necessarily have to upgrade when the newer one comes out. You can, if you want to, but you don't have to because games will still be coming out for it.
Playstation 1 lifespan - 1995 to 2005. It was still being manufactured until 2005. That's 10 years.

Playstation 2 lifespan - 2000 to present. It is on its 7th year.
Sony has already shown that they support their products. When the PS2 came out, Sony was still making the PS1. They just released the PS3 and haven't forgotten about the PS2. The same will happen with the PS3 when the PS4 comes out.

You know by "10 year plan" they don't mean that they won't make a PS4 in 10 years, they just mean that they'll keep supporting the PS3 for 5 years after the PS4 is out.
I have decided recently not to buy a console until at least 1 year of its lifetime.hamidious
That's a pretty smart choice.
