Do you think that "enough is as good as a feast" or you'd like your games to push 1080p and/or 60 fps like decent computers can do?

In other words, do you care more about games or think that the hardware is high on your list of preferences?

Personally I enjoy playing with crispy graphics and if you are used to that kind of resolution and smoothness, you may find yourself turning your nose while playing games on a console, but, apropos of games, consoles win ( imo ) when it comes to the amount of "big" games.

All in all I think that console gaming have a slight edger over Pc gaming, but as many say, it all comes down to personal preferences.

However, I own an xbox 360 and a Pc and I only use the console when I need to play those titles that are not available for Pc ( I HATE Pc's post-releases )

So, what's your preferences when it comes to gaming?

720p is only tolerable because in the future PC will be able to AA it.

720p is pretty good. Whatever. I'm not excited for it, but I understand Resolution and Frame Rate need to be sacrificed by devs for gameplay, which is fine by me.

720p for movies would suck though.

I don't know, but considering I have mutliple HDTV's throughout my house, multiple Blu-Ray Players, multiple HD-DVD players, about 4000 DVD's, and 400 Blu-Ray's/HD-DVD's, I know what I know.

Also, I see you are new to Gamespot, so Welcome New Poster. :P

 Whoa, whoa...that puts my DVD collection to shame (I got a little over 300) :P. Anyway, I'm perfectly fine with 720p...the highest my TV goes is 1080i, and most games default to 720 anyway, and they still look damn fine (yeah, not much of a wow factor for my TV, but I got it at a very good price :D). Besides, if I need to have my good graphics, I always have my computer :P.

I couldnt really care to be honest. I love MGS4 and Halo 3, and both run at sub-HD resolutions. The graphics in either game never bothered me at all.

If you are playing on a 720p Tv, you MUST upgrade. I just recently upgraded to a nice 1080p 46 inch LCD TV. It is ridiculous how big of a difference it makes. Gotta have that HDMI cable of course...

My TV is either 720p or 1080i, so I put it on 720p since I think it looks better for games. My computer monitor is higher, not quite 1080p though. But honestly, I don't have any issue with 720p. A game in 720p with nice anti aliasing, AF, etc. still looks really nice.

720p with stable 60fps is far better than 1080p with unstable 30fps when it come to gaming.

720 is fine until you get used to 1080. Then the switch becomes rather unpleasant.

but on the most powerful pc today you wouldn't have to do that you can play at insanely high resolutions and not turn down any graphcis settings. And for me the last thing i turn down is resolution i will sacrifice some graphic fidelity to keep it at 1080p at the fps i'm comfortable with.

I know that it's technically better when you read a spreadsheet printout of the specs, but I haven't actually seen 1080p being noticeably better. 720p looks great for every HD game I've ever played and Blu-Rays and HD tv shows look great as well.

When all you use is a 16:10 24" monitor set to 1920x1600, no, 720p is not very good at all. Even 1080p isn't great compared to the almightiness of 1920x1600. Thats why i like PC gaming, massive resolution and 120FPS, consoles would poo itself at those numbers.

720p on a Pc monitor is bad, on a Tv is okay, cause you're sitting at a certain distance.

But it's no brainer that the difference between 720p and 1080p is pretty noticeable:

With 720p you really do need a good antialiasing, except consoles are still too weak for that kind of thing.

Personally I think PC has the edge.

I have a 1080p Sony Bravia but it's only 32" so it's really not noticeable for TV or Games unless maybe I'm sitting 2 feet from the TV. I just upgraded to my first HDTV though, so coming from like an SDTV under 32" it's still a nice upgrade for me. The thing is, my TV is hooked up to my PC so I still benefit from the 1080p resolution but my monitor is only 1050 so sometimes I switch between Clone display and Extended display.

Am I happy with 720p? Considering the size of my TV, sure. I'm not going to pay an extra $10 a month for 1080p from Dish when it's already 1080i by default either. And again, I'd rather sacrifice the detail for performance. If I want high res gaming and performance, I'll play on my PC. The only difference is the library since I have a usb controller and can play from my couch, but then I'd lose out on being closer to the action and being able to notice the higher res.

hmm...i dunno. when i had a gaming pc back in 2001, i game at 1280x1024 already ('cause i had a 4:3 monitor). and then 10 years later, im gaming at 720p (and widescreen at that). lol. back then, it didnt make much sense to do 1920x1080 since the textures themselves aren't that detailed anyway, even if you up the resolution. some games only even had up to Trilinear Filtering and 2XAA back then. but now, i dunno. i think 1080p should already be standard. resolution can now go up to 2560x1660 already. although back in 2001, games only do 480p on consoles which was the lowest resolution you can do on pc's. i mean, 640x480 is sooooo ugly back then. games shouldve been at least 800x600. im totally impressed with the ps3 games right now, but, yea. they couldve been better on pc's obviously. and on 1080p.

720p is fine till your have a tv over around 26-30" then 720p is just not enough. The pixels really start to stand out on 50" tvs.

720p looks fine on my 55" LCD - there's definitely some jaggies in Bad Company 2, though my old DLP hid them pretty well. 630p in GTA IV looks acceptable, and 576p (Haze or Conviction) looks bad (though Conviction was good enough that I just dealt with it).

you only need 60 fps in fast games, like racing. Otherwise you won't notice any differences, whether it runs at 30 fps or 60. Unless you are a cyborg.

Not true, there is a big difference between 60 and 30 frames per second.

When all you use is a 16:10 24" monitor set to 1920x1600, no, 720p is not very good at all. Even 1080p isn't great compared to the almightiness of 1920x1600. Thats why i like PC gaming, massive resolution and 120FPS, consoles would poo itself at those numbers.tirralirra

I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you were shown a monitor but not told the resolution.

I'm content with it for consoles I guess, but on PC, I'm beginning to get bored of 1680x1050. I can't wait till I have enough money saved up and the monitors become cheap enough for me to go 2580x1600...

i dont care about resolution and AA, but speed is important for me i need at least 60 frames and more. Thats why i got a 120Hz monitor besides some 3D gimmick lol.

and even a bigger one with 120 Hz. And yeah 3D splits the frames into two 60hz images, but there are anyways a lot of games those lock down the speed at 60 Hz why not have some 3d in it.

then congratz to your futuristic eyes. I can still see movies which run at 25 fps, with motion blur.

I wouldnt say no to better graphics, but gameplay takes priority of course. As long as the graphics are adequate, im fine with it.

Of course 1080p is better, but if it came at the cost of texture detail, anti-aliasing or framerate I'd probably want to stick with 720p.

Wow, hostile much? What does movies have to do with movies, do you interact with movies? Nope If you can not see the difference, then you must have not ever played at 60fps.

maybe if it was a step down from 1920x1200 (sorry, not 1600, my bad, that would be a very oddly shaped monitor). but compared to 1080p, 1920x1200 is a lot better.
