As a Orignal Xbox owner are you impressed by how good Microsoft is doing with their consoles?

I think Ms is doing far better than I expected them to. I thought the Xbox brand would have been discontinued just by looking at the Original Xbox and how it did.

Pretty much the Xbox 360 and Xbox One are like the Ps2 of its time. In terms of how many games it has. Pretty much every series I want is on Xbox One. DBZ and many more are on Xbox now. Even Kingdom Hearts 3 now. Yeah Final Fantasy too.

Original xbox was trash. The 360 turned out to be one of my favorite systems of all time. I have so many games and so many good memories on it. I am happy that Microsoft has given games a shot.

I'm impressed at how easily they went from doing a pretty decent job to being an absolute joke.

Loved the original XBOX, although it was a step behind the PS2. No fault there, for many gamers it's basically a tossup as to which is the greatest console ever, the PS2 or the SNES?

The 360 was solid, but I still preferred the PS3, though only slightly (mainly due to exclusives, I just don't give a flying rats ass about all of the shooters that Microsoft seemingly has an undying allegiance to).

The PS4 is leaps and bounds ahead of the XBone. Don't even see how that's debatable, unless you're an XB fanboy or having a cable box with a built in DVR is something mind blowing and new to you.

The 360 is no where near the PS2 in terms of games, you also include the XB1 in that statement which makes no fucking sense.

Original Xbox was my fav system for its time. 360 was better than ps3 if you'd had to own only one system. Xbone One is a joke that was released to be laughed at.

LOL hell no

Rememeber RROD!

Microsoft with the xbox 360 also introduced charging for basic online gameplay....

But what was really awful about that was that online gameplay was basically the only main feature of xbox live and it was hidden behind a pay wall fee.

(at least current PSN+ offers far more value and offers MORE then just online gamplay)

Microsoft with the 360 also introduced the DLC money cash grubbing craze.

Microsoft with the 360 introduced such generic cookie cutter cinematic movie type linear shooter franchises such as Gears and Halo

But when you look at the last gen, Microsoft relied mostly on multi-plats

(which by the way, that wont work this time because multi-platform games will always be superior on PS4)

I mean to even praise the 360's game library is laughable....over 90% of its library consisted of multi-plats that are on PS3....the rest consisted of nothing but repetitive, boring sequels of Gears/Halo/Forza/Fable rehashed to death on damn near yearly cycles....throw in some obscure Kinect and XBLA titles....and that was about it....

So Microsoft with the 360 brought with it the attitude that exclusives dont matter and quality isnt important.

The xbox 360 has had one of the worst pathetic exclusive libraries of all time..

Microsoft has done much more HARM to the industry over all, and thats still not even counting what they are currently "bringing to the table" with their pathetic and anti-consumer xbone machine....I will get into that in a little..

When it came to eveything that truly mattered to gamers the PS3 was king. The variety, quality, and diversity of PS3 exclusives simply could not be touched....

Ok, here we go...we already know how much of an utter joke the xbone is....its 100$ more expensive yet 50% weaker then a PS4....gaming is a secondary focus on the xbone.....kinect is a spy cam...etc

Then there is the fact Microsoft even tried to take away consumer rights. If they had had their way, always online and DRM would be the standard.....so thank god even more now for Sony and the PS4!

Honestly, it would be much better for us all if the xbox brand just died or was written off into obscurity....

Microsoft doesnt have a clue what they are doing and they have always been viciously anti-consumer and anti-gamer (proven again and again by their actions)

plus all the Microsoft shills, and all the FUD they try to spread.....and all the BS politics Microsoft has brought into gaming etc...

Microsoft is responsible for everything thats ugly in gaming....Microsoft needs to be exterminated already...

Somebody else needs to step in in Microsoft's place OR Sony should be left to do their thing while Nintendo does theirs...

PS1 and PS2 eras were some of the best ever and those eras had little to no competition....

The PS4 has had no competition from the xbone and the PS4 is still the best gaming console ever....etc...."competition" hasnt been a good thing....it sounds good on paper but in reality it hasnt been the case...

Saying the xbox brand is good for competition is like saying Hitler was good for the competition he "offered" to Europe etc

As an original launch Xbox owner, the new console as well as the overall attitude of the company sucks complete ass now. When I bought in 2001, I didn't expect for a moment that things would turn out this way.

@silversix_:

360 was better during the first half of the generation. PS3 was better the second half. Because of this, I saw the Xbox One being a joke long before it was even announced.

Older consoles ie, their first two, yes. Bone will be a fine gaming machine in the long run but it isn't impressive at all.

.

More expensive

(Even) more expensive in EU than US with less features

Weaker hardware

Struggling to reach 1080p in 2013

Harder to develop for

DRMgate

No viable PS+ alternative (yet)

Much slower installs than PS4

No HDD replacement without voiding warranty

But hey, you can say "Xbox on" and it turns on!

I was impressed with the Xbox 360, I'm a little disappointed, well a lot disappointed in Xbox ONE, starting with:

  • the name, Xbox ONE is terrible name,
  • it's overprice regardless if it includes Kinect, they should have kept to the $299/399 tradition.
  • it's lack of frill features i.e. backward compatibility,
  • them going with AA battery usage instead of a rechargeable battery. The 2010 released 360 Special edition controller should have been the new Xbox ONE standard controller.
  • making an uglier looking control pad
  • Not holding on to and building up any big name exclusives that originated from them
    • I was and still am pissed that Microsoft let developers like Bungie, Bioware, and Mistwalker slip through their hands into the hands of other publishers and competitor consoles.

Nope. The original was okay and so was the 360. Game on both of them but the new one added too much casual crap and is not worth the extra money. MS doesn't have exclusives I really want.

@Zelda187: If by leaps and bounds ahead you mean hasn't even bothered to try innovating anything then yeah it sure is.

I'm not a fan of the TV or DVR or any of the Kinect / Media stuff but it is there if you need it or want it. On PS4 there isn't even a choice. The thing is I can ignore it if I want to. But in the overall picture the casual gamers will love it. And in todays market casual gamers outnumber the hardcore gamers by quite a margin.

Sure adding £100 to the price tag with the Kinect is a bold move and one which will probably factor into my own purchase when I finally get around to getting one.

But I will be buying a console for the games and as far as I'm concerned both consoles are on par there so far, i.e. absolute crap on every level. Killzone with it flashy looks and boring gameplay, and Forza with its flashy(ish) looks and no cars to drive.

If I buy an Xbox One I will probably use the HDMI In with my satellite box for two reasons 1) Because I can, and 2) Because my TV in my bedroom is only 20" and quite cheap meaning I only have 1 HDMI port on it. Which means I will either have to buy some sort of adapter or splitter which is a pain in the ass. Using the HDMI in solves that problem for me. If I buy a PS4 I'll have no choice but to buy an ugly and normally clunky HDMI splitter because they couldn't be bothered to upgrade their console from the PS3.

Microsoft will always get points from me for actually giving innovation a go, it is how progress works. Unlike the PS3.5 on the other hand which has hardly changed at all and has been capitalising off of Microsoft's tough start for the past year instead of thinking up their own ideas.

Lemmings ... It was Sony that did really bad with PS3 which gave MS the opportunity to do way better than they should. Please already ...

You saying pretty much X360 and X1 are like PS2 of its time ? What the heck dude ? Are you that new in console gaming or that big of a lemming?

X360 with 1 year more in the market while Sony was in a serious loss with more than 6 billions and a seriously "damaged" PS3 ( lack of games the first 2 years , bad architecture which made many multis look better on X360 , lose of classic PS exclusives to X360 and many more issues ) and still PS3 caught up X360 sales.

Now if we add the fact that PS3 , overall , had way better quality as well as quantity total of exclusives at the end of gen... How the heck X360 is like PS2 of its time , are you serious ? It barely won vs a really hurt company (SONY) and a really "bad" product (PS3)

If MS with X360 couldnt beat Sony and PS3 decisevly after all those problems PS3/Sony had ... Oh boy , just wait and see what will happen this gen.Just wait lemming , youll know your real place soon enough.

The only time MS impressed me with their console was back with original xbox. Already had a PS2 back then and when I got xbox felt like something completely different. Made my PS2 look like a toy.

First time I played 16 people on LAN on consoles, online, playing my music on games, better controller, no memory cards with limited space, I replaced the HDD with a bigger one, modded it and installed all my games never having to use discs anymore, XBMC, emulators. It was just better in almost everything, more powerful and more features. The only minus was lack of third party support compared to PS2 but that's the price you pay for being a new entrant. MS couldn't do anything about it, they did their job in building the console and did great at that.

They did some nice things with Live on 360 but back then I was already moving more and more towards PC.

As for XO, it's clear they've lost the original team that worked on first xbox.

The 360 was a fine console. Probably my 2nd favorite of all time. Xbox One looks... not that special.

I don't need any innovation beyond what the PS4 currently is.

It plays games, it plays blu-rays, and it offers online support. That's really all I need.

I don't need gimmicky "innovative" stuff like voice commands or motion sensored controls, especially since the technology just isn't there yet to fully optimize those things without any hitches or hiccups.

Since the very beginning each new game system has basically offered two things: Improved graphics and increased performance over its predecessor

And I'm totally fine with it remaining that way.

1) I haven't had TV in several years. Gaming and Netflix sustains me.

2) I don't like sports.

3) I don't want to Skype with grandma.

4) The thought of talking to my X1 seems ludicrous.

5) Kinect would be worthless to me.

if it's by means of console impression, the first 2 were the king and queen, why?

#1 Xbox, the founding father of the whole console

#2 X360,the descendant, got enough library to fill itself with

still, I won't get any of these since I have too much tech flooding the house,

am I impressed with the xbone? no in fact I'm depressed with it

You are perfectly fine with there being no innovation?

I'm not sure we would be where we are today if it wasn't for innovation. As far as that goes we'd all be shitting in the woods still if it wasn't for people making changes. And probably more so when no one else believed in those changes. It took guts and hard work for them to push the ideas at people and show them that they needed them.

Just look at Apple. Pretty much every time they've brought something out since the 90s everyone has scoffed at their ideas. It took someone like Steve Jobs to go up on stage and throw their ideas down their throats. Now they sell their iPods, iPhones and iPads in the millions every year. People didn't know what they had even when it was waved under their noses.

It is a risk bringing out new stuff, Microsoft could easily tank themselves by doing so but I'd rather watch Microsoft tank and everyone learn from their mistakes than having no change at all.

Also there is very good reason for the PS4 to have change since the PS3 was shit. They changed the architecture sure, it has more power sure, but the PS4 to me right now is like a lump or iron, dull, uninviting and cold. If someone gives you a lump of Ruthenium or Platinum or Osmium as a gift you can see how awesome they are. Iron is uninspiring just like the PS4 is right now. Microsoft are the creators, searching for new elements and trying to push boundaries.

PS4 is just meh, like the PS3. THAT is why we need change. THAT is why Microsoft will be in my good books for a long time yet. They have more guts than Sony and Nintendo put together.

God even Playstations adverts "This is for the players" is a direct jab at Microsoft. That is all they done for the last year. They bring nothing out for themselves but they jump on every mistake Microsoft makes.

Why not call the PS4 the PS Spineless?

The OGbox and 360 were pretty sick. The bone is just a huge dissapointment. I see no reason to get one. This is the only gen where Ill be sticking to one console the whole time.

I simply don't like being forced to pay extra for a Kinnect which, for me, amounts to nothing more than a $100 dust collector.

Also, Microsoft may be "innovative" with these new features, although I don't really see how. It's almost 2014. Damn near everyone already has a desktop or laptop PC in their homes as well as a cable box featuring DVR.

But they sure as hell aren't innovative with their games. Damn near every exclusive from Microsoft is some run of the mill shooter. Look at their premier franchises, they're literally all first or third person shooters.

@Zelda187: Yeah so don't buy the Xbox One. It doesn't mean you HAVE to go online and set fire to it in forums.

The fact is if they didn't put the Kinect in with every console it would stagnate and slowly fall backwards just like the Kinect 1.0 did, just like the PS Eye has done since it was launched on the PS2.

They NEED to put it in the box if they are ever going to be able to get feedback on it, and use that to make the changes needed. Who is going to give feedback to Sony on the PS Eye when no one owns one?

Then later when Microsoft has changed their Kinect for the better. Fixed any problems, made the voice commands accurate 99% of the time everyone will be looking back at this launch remembering when the Kinect was so shit.

OR it will fail. Either way we will have learned something and gained something.

What has Sony done to help out, either in the short term or long? Not a damn thing.

As for exclusives I can take them all leave them on both consoles. I was interested in playing Beyond Two Souls but I sure wasn't going to buy a PS3 just for it and after seeing some videos about it, it looks fun but overall looks like it will be intense for the short time that it lasts. Same with The Last of Us and Uncharted really. All look great but nothing there that makes me want to buy a PS3 or 4 just for them.

Elder Scrolls Online, Watch Dogs, The Crew, The Division, Dark Souls II, Witcher 3 on the other hand I can't wait to get my teeth into.

If I buy a PS4 it will be because of the £100 saving and because the Vita Remote Play sounds like something I would get some use out of, everything else right now is just meh.

The xbox one's killer app and xbox's biggest franchise is a racing game. You're "all shooters" comment is flat-out wrong.

The reason that I bought the original Xbox was because they purchased RARE and at the time, RARE was my favorite developer. If that had not happened, I probably would have just stuck with GameCube and PS2 that generation. So, a few weeks after the announcement that Microsoft purchased RARE, I bought a Xbox, but unfortunately the great RARE games that I expected to get never came.

However, despite the RARE disappointment, I found many other reasons to love the Xbox and it surprisingly became my favorite console of that generation. I loved what they were starting to do with online gaming, I loved that they had a controller that was big enough for my hands to comfortably hold, I loved that it was by far the most powerful console, I loved that it had a hard drive and I could rip my music onto the hard drive to use in the game, and I loved that Xbox was bringing in many western developed games that would have normally just been on PC and not consoles.

I loved the Xbox 360 even more and rank the Xbox 360 in my top 3 favorite consoles of all time. For the Xbox 360, Microsoft created by far the best controller ever which that alone guaranteed that I was going to buy all multiplats on Xbox 360. They made Xbox Live an absolutely amazing online service that was almost as good as playing in the same room with friends. And despite some developers taking advantage of it, for the most part, I loved the Xbox Marketplace and how it allowed me to easily try out game demos, continue to have my favorite games supported with new content, and get cheap Xbox Live Arcade games which in many cases were more fun to play than full retail games.

I'll have my Xbox One delivered in a few days and I definitely expect Microsoft to continue to impress me like they have the past two generations.

Yeah, no shit. Both consoles have been out for less than two weeks. I'm talking about Microsoft's past as well as their future.

What are the two biggest exclusives for Microsoft?

Answer: Halo and Gears of War

What is the upcoming game everyone is pumping up right now for the XBone?

Answer: Titanfall

Now, what do all of these games have in common?

Answer: They're all shooters

Understand?

We haven't heard anything about GoW. I'm pretty sure that series is dead at this point so that makes only one shooter for MS, Halo. Just one.

As for titanfall, cows keep on repeating the game is a multiplat plus MS didn't make that game so I have no idea why you bring that up.

The 360 from 2005 to 2009 offered, without question, one of the greatest gaming offers, culture, and experiences, rivaling that of the PS2 or SNES before it. It is a testament to J Allard and his team's vision of what a modern videogame console, and the relationship games have with the console's OS, that allowed this to be so.

Great stable of exclusive games, a system that bolstered each game that was released on it's playability and replayability just by being on that machine, it made it so that a console became a part of the game experience... it was truly wonderful, forward thinking stuff that has permeated throughout the entirety of gaming culture on every front.

The Xbox One? Honestly, way too early to tell, but as far as a gaming experience goes, it isn't really doing it for me. PS4 has just put on a better show. Although I can watch TV through an Xbox now, so theres that!(/s).

I'm surprised how arrogant they got that they wanted to implement DRM, mandatory spying Kinect, no renting, and used game fees and to people to "Deal with it".

ALL OF THIS ^^^^ 100%

I'm impressed when you consider what an absolute joke of competition both Sega and Nintendo were for Sony back in the 90s, and early 00s. Sony might as well have had a monopoly.

Now you just simply have to look at the PS4 to see just how much of a threat Sony found the Xbox brand to be. It completely changed their entire way of thinking about how to make consoles. They knew they could never go into another gen with the same line of thinking they had with the PS3.

Jesus, you ARE the exact kind of SHEEP Microsoft loves to extort. Its because of people like YOU, why Microsoft thought they could get away with their henious DRM acts against the consumer.

IF you are not willing to call Microsoft out on all of their bullshit just because of brand loyailty to a company like Microsoft who has already tried **** consumers over, then you are not a real gamer. You are an xbot. Im ashamed that "people" like you can even share my hobby of gaming

Original xbox was trash. The 360 turned out to be one of my favorite systems of all time. I have so many games and so many good memories on it. I am happy that Microsoft has given games a shot.

I wouldnt say the original xbox was trash. it easily had the best hardware of all the consoles that generation. It put out 720p way back then also when all other consoles were still pushing 480 "p" as their newest feature over 480i. But, they dropped support for it early due to low sales (uh cause it was a microsoft console and MS is hated around the world) but ya the 360 was great except for RROD and the One will do well also if they keep support and exclusives coming to it.
