I really enjoy when a game catches me off guard with something unexpected... and AC does that.

I support the notion.

What? Arkham City had one of the worst stories in a game I've played in recent years.

The only thing Arkham City failed to do better than Asylum was the writing/dialogue/story.

That's pretty sad, given that Arkham Asylum's story was pretty dang pithy.

Though from what I've played so far, City seems to have some more interesting things going on, what with Bruce Wayne being arrested and the Joker faking his death.

Still, if The Walking Dead, which has one of the best stories I've ever seen in a video game, fails to get a nod, I will be highly annoyed.

I disagree? Why do you think it was better? I thought it was a lot more inconsistent and all over the place with the characters. The individual character plots were great, but they didn't mesh together well.

for starters it felt more alive, I liked hearing the goons' take on their situation and seeing how the various gangs adadpted to their hardships, as you mentioned the character plots were freat and personally I loved the ending and twist ending they're obviously saving for the next game :P

as for Arkham Asylum, I honestly never cared for it's story, to me the joker wouldn't inject himself with venom and go berserk on Batman and Poison Ivy felt really forced and pointless

The ending of Asylum instantly makes it a worst story. That ending was just so stupid and poorly written.

There's inconsistencies in both games TBH... one thing that really bothered me with AC was the fact that Joker
was genuinely concerned about not dying when he usually doesn't give a f**k about that and Batman acted like a real jerk most of the time
heh, I actually never thought about that before, but then again, has the joker ever been in a similar situation?

Man, the UK's got some low standards. Why not just nominate some anime while we're at it?

Dunno.

More importantly, why is a 2011 game up for a 2012 award, at least, this late in the year?

I think it's pretty well deserved. I don't understand the people that like the first game's story better. Asylum's plot was a pretty standard saturday morning cartoon plot. Arkham City dealt with much deeper and profound themes. The big, interesting ones that are often brought up in the Batman franchise.

Ehh. Not a bad choice, but there are much better options. Also, why is a game from 11 months ago still nominated?

...Now that you mention it, that makes it even worse, given that "To the Moon" came out in the same freaking month.

What themes in Arkham City were profound?

They might not be extraordinarily profound, but the game goes deeper than asylum. The major batman questions are brought up.

-Is life worth saving no matter how low a person sinks in their morallity? Is there a cut-off point where it's ok to make the discission to kill? This game really pushes Batman in this regard. He has to make the hardest decisions in a seemingly futile attempt tp save a city full of the types of criminals that killed his own parents.

-The psychological strain on batman stemming from the question: am I at fault for creating these psychologically disturbed madmen?

It's a heck of a lot more interesting than Joker wanting to make an army of monsters.

Yeah I know. I'm big batman fan. It just made City's story better than Aylum's for me. That's all I'm saying.

Fair enough, but since Arkham City we've had To the Moon and The Walking Dead. If Arkham City is nominated and not those two, well, the board there needs to be hit with a rolled-up newspaper.

Or maybe he's read a book at least once in his life.
