http://blog.lendingclub.com/2008/11/04/holida-console-wars-microsofts-xbox-360-vs-sonys-ps3/

This article is from some financial site on what they prognosticate the console war will shape up like over the holidays. I found it somewhat interesting but not really saying anything too specific. It will be interesting to see if this is accurate or not. I have no vested stake in either company I just found this worth a glance.

For those interested, this is the last paragraph:

Right now, price is King. Blu-ray isn't enough.

Sony executives have stood firm that the $399 price of the PS3 will remain through the holiday season, despite evidence that it is seriously hurting the bottom line for the company. Microsoft's XBox has widened its lead over the Playstation since Microsoft dropped its price, and if the trend continues during the busiest shopping time of year, Sony can say good-bye to the console battle.

The battle will be over, and if Sony isn't careful, it may lose the war, too.

The bottom line of the company? Please. They've been selling it at a loss since they released the console.

If they dropped it further, they'd take a bigger hit on each console sold. Granted, they'd see greater sales, greater developer and retail support, renewed interest...

But their bottom line is exactly the aspect that would suffer. Poorly written article.

I think it is going to be very close between Xbox 360 and PS3. Its all about price vs brand-power.

Poorly written article is putting it mildly.. Check out the system specs:

XBox 360
Memory: Lots
Graphics: Really good
Game library: Practically infinite
Price: $199

Playstation 3
Memory: Tons
Graphics: Pretty sweet
Game library: More than enough

Price: $399

 WTF?

MS wanted to destroy Sony in the console business. So far, so good for MS.

Sony goes from first place (and on top of the world) to last place.

The 360, so far, is at least in second place...and all that matters to the people at MS is that they are doing better than Sony. At worst, they are competing with the kings of consoles. They have a slight lead in the fight with the previous gen's heavy weight champion of the world. Sony, based on their past successes, should have given the 360 an upper cut that would have sent it flying out of the ring this gen. But no, they got cocky and are now in an epic battle with the newcomers to the console world.

If both are losers, Sony is the biggest loser of them all.

anybody who buys a $200 arcade 360 and thinks theyre getting anywhere near the same experience you get with a ps3 is in for a rude awakening.
