ment. Nintendo made the system too under-powered. I agree that graphics are not everything, but they should have made the Wii at least on the same level as PS/360. 3rd Parties in turn crapped all over them. There is also no reason for the friend codes. I hope the 3DS signifies a step in the right direction for Nintendo, as it uses a somewhat modern GPU. I hope the online system is also fixed, and offers a quick system to connect to people, and a solid gameplay speed that is mostly lag-free.

Some things didn't go over too well with the Wii. Such as, the shovelware associated with it. Not a big deal for some people, but a definite deterrant for others.

Graphics, I could care less for. The direction they went with the Wii was reasonable at the time, considering HD was new, and adoption rates weren't incredibly fast.

Their online store offers an awesome selection, and the overall library has some really good games in it.

It's not the graphics that put it at a disadvantage for developers, it was the motion controls themselves, completely new/never worked with before

But yeah, it does work really well as a secondary console.

I don't really agree. The Wii made me an even bigger Nintendo fanboy. But it could be just because the only competition it had was the 360 and PS3.

If they made it as powerful as PS3/360, it would've been more expensive and a complete failure. The 360's edge was its early release and the Wii's edge was the lower price. It made it easier to "try".

And it was more appealing to those who viewed games as something for kids and 'nerds'. It made it cool to play games among those who hated games before.

I agree that it is the perfect secondary console this gen. I really don't understand why it does not have better 3rd Party support, though. Sure it can't handle games like Modern Warfare and Dead Rising, but the visuals are better than the GCN. Developers should have taken the oppurtunity of a much cheaper development cost to make some good games for it. Instead, all we get is shovelware, with the exception of a few gems (Monster Hunter, No More Heroes, etc.)

Nobody cares about the traditional graphics race. We have to break out of that box. Motion controles + 3d is the future.

Nintendo started with motion controles (and weak graphix, but u cant have everything), and now is starting with 3d. As soon as kinect and playstation move catch fire, u will see that devs will be forced to make motion controle games (that can be multiplatform), so then the GOOD third party games will come, because the market is bigger, thx to ninty.

the wii is a good primary console if you will. if you just game as a hobby it aint hard to have a family, friend to play games on their hd system. everybdy in this world has at least 1 friend.

The wii is not the the most technically advanced but its a great console that expanded the industry. Many of my friends thought games were nerdy and found out that everybody was playing the wii so they joined in.

i like the wii and im happy it aint a HD triplet

I think the Wii offers one of the best libraries this gen. Just because 95% of the titles aren't mainstream doesn't mean they aren't good.

The most disappointing thing about the Wii is the online. It's so bad.

I mean I'd love to see online even comparable to the PSP's (hopefully better, but that should be the bare minimum imo) on both Nintendo's next gen systems. I like to just be able to have my screen name, and then browse through a list of games and game types, and see the ping, and pick one. A chat function would be great too (would work well with the touch screen on the 3DS).

Games like Cave Story, Little King's Story, Murumasa: The Demon Blade, Rune Factory Frontier, Sin and Punishment, Zack and Wiki, LostWinds, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Okami, RE4 Wii Edition (the best edition), World of Goo, Swords and Soldiers, Dawn of Discovery, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Klonoa, de Blob, (and more I can't think of atm). Some of these are ports, yes, and some are downloadable WiiWare titles.

That's what would be my recommendation list, and it might not be for everyone sure, but that's the case with all games. I know I've met people who consider the Wii a bad system because all they like to play are shooters (it actually brought a tear to my eye to hear this guy say it).
But if you've got an open mind, and find love for games regardless of if "Mainstream Reviewer #347" gave it a 7/10, then the Wii is a fabulous system.

Not a disappointment for me at all. I can understand how graphic-loving players might not like it, but everyone has different focus. It has a great library (ignoring the shovelware). It has decent graphics. When motion control is implemented correct, those games are a lot of fun.

Here's a fun tidbit: If Sony's PS division and MS's Xbox division would be independent companies, both would be bankrupt. A games company cannot sell stupidly expensive hardware at a ridiculous amount of loss, a humongous electronics/software companies can, and even then it's not wise. You're basically asking for Nintendo to have committed suicide at the beginning of the generation.

Not to mention that, for most people, the HD graphics add very little value but cost a kidney to make. Not smart business, that.

It's the worst nintendo console to date in my book, funny how it's the best selling nintendo consoloe, yet it sucks so much, but it's ok.

Yes, the industry leader that continues to break records and creates tons of new gamers is irrelevant. Naturally. Was it Video Game Industry's Delusion Land (tm) or the real world where we lived again? If I can make a recommendation, wake up, and read a little business. No change in gaming taste required, but I guarantee the industry will turn into a giant comedy show for you. Because, everyone is living in Delusion Land and what they're doing is shaping up into a huge cluster***k.

If Motion+ was built into the remote day 1, I think things would have turned out a lot better. The precision of the motion control that was promised was not lived up to until Motion+. That is especially apparent in Red Steel and Red Steel 2, even though RS would have been a bad game even with good controls. I love the Wii and have owned a lot of games for it, but Nintendo promised A LOT that they didn't deliver on I don't think the graphics are a huge deal to me, but the fact that Nintendo was so short sighted when it comes to stuff like DLC, online, and storage solutions is very disappointing. I remember Iwata saying the exact same thing he said with the 3DS - that you will wake up and find new content has been downloaded for you and have something new every day. I have a lot more faith in them going into the 3DS as they have shown they are serious about the core crowd and the casual gamers. I think, or at least, I hope the 3DS rights a lot of wrongs Nintendo has done this generation.

No by gearing towards the casuals. Sure its made them alot of money but now Sony and micrsoft wants to jump the causual way with all this motion sensing crap so the hardcore gamers are going to get shafted. I wouldnt be surprised if all 3 consoles next gen were cheap underpowered, motion sensing crap geared to casuals. They see nintendo's sucess catering to casual gamers and how much more profit it has made than the hardcores so its very likely theyll all go that direction.

Awell atleast the Pc will always be there to fall back on when all else fails, sigh

It expanded the business the same way Sony expanded the business back in the 90's when everybody thought video games were just for kids, Sony made them more mature and now nintendo is making the industry more casual.

If Wii was more powerful it would have been more expensive and an even bigger risk for Nintendo. Looking back, sure you can think how the Wii could have been better, but who knows how things would have turned out.

I'd have to agree with some of the coments in this thread. I understand that Nintendo was coming off of a rebound with the GCN, and that Microsoft and Sony are rich as hell. The 3DS looks like a great improvement in graphics and in terms of 3rd Party support. I just wish Nintendo would go ahead and release their next console, as quality 3rd party support on the system is pretty much dead.

My only complaint is the cost of the system itself, if they expect me to pay $200 for roughly 9 year old processing power, they can forget it. I would rather pick up a Nvidia GTX 460 at that price.

Games, sorry the Wii Sports titles are closer to distractions. Now LOZ and Super Mario Galaxy are games. Wii Motion + is also just an extra couple of gyroscopes.

The main reason people buy videogames is because of entertainment,NOT processing power. Stop asking "How powerful is this ?"Instead ask yourself, "how much fun is this?".

Your book kinda sucks. Nintendo has been the most relevant this generation, probably the only relevant one since Sony and Microsoft are the ones trying to walk Nintendo's walk. If it was as you say, it would be the other way around. And during the Gamecube, they had enough money to do something as powerful as the 360 and PS3, they always had more money for that than Microsoft and Sony had, because they were the only ones of the three that actually made money from their consoles that gen. They chose to make a less powerful console, because they knew it would get them non-stop developer support. And besides, the PS1 sold the most during the 90's, even though it was inferior to the N64 in graphics and games.

And a $200 graphics card is worth more to me for its entertainment value (running PC games smoothly, movies etc), then what $200 for a Wii would get me. I would gladly pay $100 for a Wii and a couple of REAL Wii games though.

well its not going to happen the wii is a great value right now and is the perfect price....ALSO it comes in black!

By creating a system with some of the best games they ever created?

No by gearing towards the casuals. Sure its made them alot of money but now Sony and micrsoft wants to jump the causual way with all this motion sensing crap so the hardcore gamers are going to get shafted. I wouldnt be surprised if all 3 consoles next gen were cheap underpowered, motion sensing crap geared to casuals. They see nintendo's sucess catering to casual gamers and how much more profit it has made than the hardcores so its very likely theyll all go that direction.

Awell atleast the Pc will always be there to fall back on when all else fails, sigh

No no, you Sony and Microsoft will be playing catch up. I think Nintendo will be the first one to the next gen, with an HD system that is as precise as PS Move and cheaper too. Not to mention 3D capable. Unfortunately Sony and Microsoft wont be far behind with similar systems. Hopefully Nintendo will come through with something else that is innovative.

You tell me Super Mario Galaxy 2 doesn't have good graphics and I'll tell you Apple will become a major contender in the video game market.

Instead, all we get is shovelware, with the exception of a few gems (Monster Hunter, No More Heroes, etc.)

you say it cant handle modern warfare or dead rising when they are already on the console. if you say it cant handle games then its basically saying the original xbox cant play halo

[QUOTE="Willy105"]I don't really agree. The Wii made me an even bigger Nintendo fanboy. But it could be just because the only competition it had was the 360 and PS3.

And PC and DS and PSP???

Yeah when games like Halo, Gears, Assassin's Creed, etc selling millions there's no worry. The "hardcore" market it still there, it's still MASSIVE, and still making huge money for them. No worries, we'll still be taken care of :D
