Yeah but thats kinda to be expected, i mean blizzard if they had of taken the serious graphics approach (like say supcom) they would have also destroyed there fanbase because it would turn the hugh fanbase against them by limiting the technology it could be played upon. So instead they've opted for a highly flexible engine design which is highly customizable in graphical scale and in taking this approach they give both to hardcores and casuals a game that can be played across multitude of technological pc tiers.
People say it looks ugly but when your looking at a game that can have around 2000+ units on screen in battles with top level player group matchs you will be glad that the engine graphical design is flexible. Sure it takes on a more warcraft 3 view in appearance (although much better done) but has still maintained its maturity even if its being aimed at a teen rating. The unit design and art approach are still maintained to the universes appeal, but adapted to a 3D environment.
Not many older games from 2D eras have ever survived the 3D transistion remember, so not only do they have a hard time making this game a successor to the first original titan that it is but they also have a multitude of other challenges bringing it to the modern front of gaming today.
Thats how i approach this subject.Â
