trying to increase the number of players in online games... I mean Resistance 2 will have 60 players online , and then theres MAGwhich is another story. Also they are releasing online only games ...something Microsoft has never done( except Shadowrun but that was overpriced) . The PS3 is quickly reaching PC levels of players online which is really good for Sony since they are moving a step away from the stone age ( fps's with 8 people) . In short : Hats of to Sony for doing these.

Agreed, I'm just worried about lag. MGO gets pretty ridiculous with lag.

well most sony games use Dedicated servers like in Warhawk and Resistance..and really belive me. Their is no lag, MGO is a different story because its Konami, and they have shown how they handle online games..not to good.

Maybe it's just me, but I prefer smaller, more personal types of online games -- or more specifically, Gears of War. I thought 4vs4 was a good number for the first one, and it seems the 5vs5 for the second is a slight step up (looks like the maps are slightly bigger). Could you imagine this game with 32, or even 64 players? It loses everything that makes it fun. That's partially the reason I could never get into MMO games.

In short: More players doesn't make a better game.

PS: But I do give Sony credit for pushing the boundaries.

I have the option to play with 16 people in Halo 3, and almost always opt for 8. I just prefer smaller matches I guess.

Agreed. As far as online shooters go,smaller is better.

Take COD4 as a case in point.Any more than 16 players in a game and it becomes a total noobfest imo.You have no idea whats going on,no tactics or team-work.Too chaotic.

I'm interested to see how mag and Resistance 2 work out, with such large numbers of players.

I know that without dedicated servers, 16 is pushing it in terms of lag in most client hosted gamig situations, at least the ones I have played.

personally, i find online fps games boring, with the exception of gears of war, which i hardly play anymore. i have a lot more fun in smaller games when my friends come over - 4 player split screen we have been doing for years with games like goldeneye, halo 1, halo 2, nightfire, and others. actually, i have more fun playing cod4 and halo3 (which sucks) with only 4 people. i dont understand how most people rather have more players

PSN's first-party titles have dedicated servers, XBL does not.

When you play a game that doesn't have dedicated servers, 24 players will murder your game, causing lag.

But when you have dedicated servers, 60 players is a cakewalk. Obviously 256 players is possible with a stable network or otherwise they wouldn't have even suggested it.

For the record, MGO runs on "client-based servers," which are NOT dedicated servers and is the same junk that XBL runs on.

I don't care about player-counts per se when they get in the territory of hundreds of players, I care about network strength and stability, which dedicated servers offer.

Yeah i thinkt he credit need to be given for adequete online services.
I still think XBL delivers the best online experience.

But with 60 players you will run into problems with your home network and i don't know if that type of game can be supported by sonys online service :?

Please.

They're trying to implement squads, squad-based objectives, and HOPEFULLY tactics. Don't try to second-guess the developers. Every player-count works depending on how the game is made.

Sony is the console king.

Sony cares about their customers.

Ever since release, they have done many improvements, at no cost to us.

They underprice their system to please us.

They make their online services free to please us.

Sony loves us.

You should love them too.

Allow me to fix:

Sony is the 3rd place console.

Sony cares about their customer's wallets.

Ever since release, they have tried hard to catch up to the 360.

They priced their system at double the industry norm of the last few generations and it almost killed them.

They make their online free...what can I say, this is a huge + for them

Sony loves money

You should love games.

Ok......
Well the 360 extended the warrenty for 3 years on all 360..
HOw much money did they loose there?
360 gives a basica XBL service on for free...
360 looses like 100 dollars per xbox sold....

Cuts are gimmicks that make people like you all excited
Honestly all consoles give these cuts, not to say that sony does have satisfactory customer service but so does nintendo AND M$.

The bottome line is that sony has finally come out of the gate and decided to help their console instead of hinder it.

Sony lies to their customers.

Since release they made many improvements just like xbox live.

They loose money on the PS3 for us :)

It is unheard of for three years
They could have extended it for money or for only a year and a half
But three years is in my opinon impressive

Apple USED to make Sh*tty I pods that froze and they did not extended the warrenty
They made you pay to get a new i pod that was refurbushed

I pay the 50 dollars for the "gold" service which offers great online performance and demos first hand
And with the addition of the fall update it will make the 50 dolalrs even more worth it

There is also talk about the 50 dollars going away. This is where you get the great online experience from XBL for free.

Wow, why is everyone in this thread saying that it was Sony's decision to make the player limits so high.

They should be praising Insomniac and Zipper, not Sony....

SpruceCaboose

Zipper is Sony.

Just because it's owned by them don't mean that they are the same thing.

maybe there's a reason other devs aren't doing this

more players doesn't necessarily equal more fun

True. Such ambition requires very effective execution. I hope Sony/Zipper know what they're doing.

Who cares? 16 is enough for me. Heck, even 32 seems a bit crowded. 60 is pushing it and 256 is just insane. I don't think people will like MAG once they actually play it

don't care. games with more than 16 people are ridiculous anyway. IMO, at least.

The bottome line is that sony has finally come out of the gate and decided to help their console instead of hinder it.

please do not use the 3 year warranty to glorifly ms. its not that great becuse you 360 can still break, ms should fix the damn console. plus if ms gives the the basics of xbl free why are you paying 50 dollars then?

It is unheard of for three years
They could have extended it for money or for only a year and a half
But three years is in my opinon impressive

Apple USED to make Sh*tty I pods that froze and they did not extended the warrenty
They made you pay to get a new i pod that was refurbushed

I pay the 50 dollars for the "gold" service which offers great online performance and demos first hand
And with the addition of the fall update it will make the 50 dolalrs even more worth it

There is also talk about the 50 dollars going away. This is where you get the great online experience from XBL for free.

I have both consoles and in my opinion, xbox live is well worth the 40 pound a year cost, comparing to the psn, its so much easy to talk too and contact freinds setup online matches and just enjoy a whole better experience a better comunity feel to it psn has a lot of catchin up to do and maybe its cause they have not got the money through charges tht they ent invested as much. u pay for wot you get

Me personally, I like as many as I can get.
That's why in COD4, I'll usually play Ground War. I like the craziness more players offer.

I have hardly had any issue with lag, unless it's on my end. It will be interesting to see if Sony can handle that many players in their upcoming games.

unless its a tactical thing like territory control (in which 60 could be a blast) I like to keep it to 16 or less.

when considering isominac says 60 is to crowned so guess what it is 8 on 8 most of the time you win 8 vs 8 you go up in the battlefield to the next 8 vs 8.

4x4 lol when people say this. ya i killed this person 20 times already boring i like being able to kill differant people. not the same guy 100th time.
