Assassin's Creed 3 has been removed from Steam and Uplay

The original has been expunged on mass, Now you can only buy the improved version. Which is basically the exact same game but far more expensive, with an orange filter, where you just press X to win every fight.

To make way for Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered.

Search for Assassin's Creed 3 on the Uplay store and you'll only see the new remaster. The same is true on Steam but the original version's store page still exists. However, the purchase button has been removed and this text has been added: "Notice: At the request of the publisher, Assassin’s Creed® III is no longer available for sale on Steam." If you already own the game on either service you should still be able to download and play it. (I tested it on Uplay today and it worked fine.)

The same thing has happened with several other remastered games, like Sleeping Dogs for instance. While it's a shame players no longer have the option to save $10 or so by getting the cheaper version, and it's also a shame to lose the historical value of being able to compare both versions, you can see why a publisher wouldn't want players to be confused or accidentally buy the wrong one.

As well as graphical changes, the remastered version features free-aim archery, an improved minimap, more stealth options, double silent assassinations, and apparently the early ship section has been shortened.

Not the first time a company offers an improved version over the original (see: Lucasarts and TT games over the original two LEGO Star Wars games).

The same thing has happened with Dark Souls and its Remastered edition.

It's a shitty practice from plebs who have no faith in their remaster, as the remaster itself is usually garbo.

I thought this was going to be some april fool jokes with something along the lines saying that ac3 is mediocre as many others love to hop on the hate wagon (actually my fave behind ac2).

This isn't news. Everyone knew that this would happen.

That's why their are literally people 4 posts in the thread asking if it's an april fools and multiple threads on Steam, and news sources reporting it, making it objectively news.

This remaster is pretty decent effort tho.

And nothing of value was lost.

It looks almost identical.

When you compare it to something like Homeworld Remastered where they overhauls every single aspect (at a cheaper price with both games including the original versions) it looks comparatively shit.

AC3 is such a great game though thatd I'd be willing to pay for remastered... When it's on sale.

Difference is Ubisoft will make more Assassin's Creeds.

But Gearbox won't make more Homeworld games.

The remaster actually looks worse to me: first off, it doesn't look that much better than the original; second, there is this weird bug where the eyes are too big, like popping out of their sockets.

Finally, while I actually enjoyed AC3 at the time, this game has not aged well. The beginning, in particular, is especially laborious. I wish there was a button to "skip Kenway prologue" and get straight to the meat of the game.

Wouldn't pay full price for the remastered is what I meant. Only if it went on sale for the modern consoles.

@uninspiredcup: This happened with beamdog and the baldurs gate games. They made remasters and charged 2x the price. Even gog took the originals. Down. Then they made some cringy expansion and messed the game up, from what I heard. I still own my boxed copies and collections.

It sucks they are doing this with other games too. I don't own AC3 on pc, I had it on ps3, so the ps4 remaster was a good thing for console version.
