Assassin's Creed destined to be great like Prince of Persia?

I have been playing through the PoP trilogy again (currently finishing up Warrior Within) and I could not help but to start wondering how good Assassin's Creed will be, beings that it is being made by Ubisoft Montreal as well. From the footage of AC that I have seen, the similarities are definitely there within some of the platforming aspects of the game. But even so, it is clear that the game is VERY original.

Now, what I have been wondering is beings that PoP is without question one of the best action/adventure/platforming games ever, will Assassin's Creed end up having a similar impact? I guess we will have to wait and see, but I think it's chances are good that it will at least come close. It is certainly being made by a hell of a development team. That much we do know.

The PoP series has given me some of the most memorable, and fun gaming moments that I have ever had, with gameplay, story, immersiveness, challenge....the whole nine yards. And now that I have really started thinking about it, my anticipation for Assassin's Creed has been amplified signifigantly. Anyway, what do you guys think about how Assassin's Creed will be recieved, and how will it fare against Ubisoft Montreal's masterpiece PoP series?

Yeah, it's just looks average IMO. But it might turn out good.

Frankly, I hope it's better than the PoP series because, frankly, I found most PoP games to be typical "don't fall off the platform or you'll have to repeat a huge chunk of the game" games.

I'd love AC to be great but comparisons with PoP scare me.

Well the game really has nothing to do with anything PoP deals with. The 2 games reeally have like nothing in common.gamer0100

I wouldn't say poor but yea it's been kinda meh to me as well. The combat looks too much like PoP ( which I think is not good) but stealthier, so I hope most of the fun in the game is not just the platforming, like jumping around etc... like it was to me on pop. And that the roaming is actually good.

So yeah let's at least expect it to be better than prince.

Although PoP is one of my favorite series ever, I actually hope that you are right. I personally do not think that the game is getting enough hype myself. It looks like it will be a fantastic experience from time proven developers.

I was playing Warrior Within last night, and I really started thinking about just how brillant that the devs at Ubisoft Montreal are with level design, gameplay, ect. And then began to realize how much I really could not wait for Assassin's Creed, which looks to me like it is going to deliver the same kind of thrilling, engaging, immersive gaming experience that Ubisoft Montreal are known for delivering.

I think it really is a no brainer that this game will be killer.....at least I think so. And I feel this game is getting overlooked a little by the hordes of other killer exclusives, and multiplats that are coming out this year.

I am aware that the two games really do not have much in common in terms of story, and certain aspects of gameplay, lol. I was comparing them because they are made by the same developers. And beings that PoP was such a popular series, I am speculating that AC will be as well, because Ubisoft Montreal are making the game.

I'm not really interested in Assassin's Creed for some reason. I'll probably pick it up in 2008.TrueReligion_

I suppose that is understandable, as there is certainly no shortage of great games coming out this year, regardless of your personal preferences. It is a day 1 must buy for me though.

It sounds great on paper. It is waaay too ambitious, but if they can pull it off, it's going to be a true next-gen game.Mardil

Well, from my perspective, I would much rather have them shoot for mars, but land on the moon, rather than shoot for the moon, but not even make it out of the stratosphere. In other words, I would rather them aim as high as they can, and still make a quality game, even if they fall a bit short, rather than wuss out, and be conservative out of fear of trying to push the limits. That is just me though, lol.

Indeed, that will = win. Although, despite some similarities, I think that AC is plenty original enough to be a hit on it's own merits.
