This is dumb, all of the Nintendo fanboys say SMG, and all of the Microsoft fanboys say AC. There just happens to be more Nintendo fanboys around these days. And chances are, neither have played the other game, they just say they have.
And it's completely a matter of opinion; there isn't such thing as a better game. The only thing we can agree on are pros and cons, and even those are highly debatable.
I'd advise you not to trust this forum. Try both games for yourself. I can say, however, that if you like bloody, free roaming action/adventures like AC, then get it. If you like cartoony, more appropriate, platformers, then SMG is the way to go. Maybe a rental of each will do you good?
For me, I choose AC. Nintendo's 1st party games are seeming less and less fun, and even more 'kiddish'. I know that the Nintendo fans will argue that just because it's content isn't directed towards a higher age group, it isn't kiddish, and that you don't need bad content to have a good game, and I agree with that. The game is, however, cartoonish. It is filled with squeaky stars and colourful models. The story is mind-numbingly simple, if there is one at all. And somehow playing as a magical plumber in a magical oxygen filled universe running around on magically small planets, walking around semi-retarded enemies and solving pointless and random puzzles for absolutely no reason -- doesn't appeal to me anymore.
