Looks good. Controversy and general dislike of Ubisoft as a business aside, I have enjoyed most of what Ubisoft has brought to the table for the last couple years.

I do enjoy the AC games for the most part, and while the traversal system has gone from clunky to less clunky with each release, I'm still unpleasantly surprised just how often it gets in its own way sometimes, hindering what often is a nice flow across rooftops and alleyways.

This looks like a huge improvement. Also happy to see a rapelling line added in, sort of like "why didn't we do this earlier! DUH!" lol.

I imagine it's probably challenging to program a traversal system like this as the two components (freedom of movement and precision) likely clash with eachother. Not a developer, though, so who knows?

Might pick it up, might give it a miss. It's barely a blip on my radar TBH.

That series is so played out.

At the beginning of that video, I thought, “that looks kinda cool. Maybe I’ll try it.” 44 seconds later I had my fill.

Tomb Raider is clunky as hell and should not be used as a reference for controls or movement in any game.

I will play it simply because it has japanese text and extensive japanese voice acting.

Other than that, not super excited, it looks derivative (of it's own franchise)

@SolidGame_basic: most likely both. But I expect ghost of yotei to also use old japanese (like Ghost of Tsushima) which is really hard to understand.

I expect this to use modern japanese because everything looks so fake already.

I'm more excited for Ghost of Yotei and seeing Ubisoft taking AC to Feudal Japan this very late, there's no excuse to be that late into Feudal Japan. I'll say this gameplay is alright. I'm not hype for it but I'll give it a try using Ubisoft+ like I did for Outlaws.

This is all or nothing for Ubisoft and if this game flops, Ubisoft's stocks is gonna take a massive hit. They lost so much on Outlaws, they need to see AC Shadows win. Truth be told, I'm actually excited for AC Hexe as that sounds interesting and its something actually new. Salem Witch Era stuff yes give me that.

ass creed is their big hitter, the problem though is that it was never good with the Keyser Soze's pulled using gimmicks to distract starting to dispel the illusion of a top tier franchise.

Gamers should have woken up fast, but it takes them decades, as they are gamers.

Looks good. I still need to go back and give Ghost of Tsushima another shot. I put about 15 hours on Steam but I don't know...the gameplay is good and the graphics look great, I enjoy Jin but the world feels kind of empty or bland...maybe it's just the beginning; I kept seeing the same camps having to overtake and following the foxes, etc. I think I focused too much on trying to do everything on the map, rather than actually playing through the main campaign. I read similar sentiments on Reddit so I might go back and try again

@davillain: Wasn't aware of hexe, that sounds super awesome. Kind of like the reversal; instead of being an assassin stalking prey, you're a witch being hunted.

Also, early America is so great. I love it as a setting. Such a rich, tragic, but still amazing history. And all in just a few hundred years. I really loved AC3 despite the issues if only because of the setting.

Is there going to be magic in it? I really miss the sci-fantasy stuff they had in earlier games with the precursor race, I feel like that's really missing from the recent games. Adding "magic" in would be kind of neat.

As for AC taking this long to go to Japan, I get that. But at the same time, I sort of salute them for exploring other things as Japan is a pretty generic setting at this point; much more interesting to explore Egypt, Greece, Persia, Iraq, and other less-seen locales in games.

I agree. However, Egypt and Greece are pretty well exposed in gaming, like Japan. Persia and Iraq on the other hand, not so much.

Well, whether this game is a hit or not, with the current financial situation, it is likely that sooner or later the company will go financially bankrupt and eventually be acquired by Tencent or something. But hopefully it will be a good AC game, worthy of the swan song of the Guillemot family's Ubisoft days.

In 2007 this shit blew my mind, but it's 20 years later and it plays, essentially (barring some bells and whistles), the exact same.

Shiny graphics and cool new settings are appreciated but what's the gameplay hook? What can I do in this that I couldn't do in 2007?

To be fair, you can say that about 99% of games.

Looks good... I'll get it via ubisoft plus through Microsoft rewards.

It looks better than the new ghosts of tsunami game...... imagine if a ubisoft game outscores it in this battle of the samurai games..... though GOT only got a 7 here where it counts at GS

I mean it's pretty obvious they need this game to be a hit; taking an extra month at this point in the same fiscal year isn't a big deal.

They don’t need it to be anything. They are holding AC in an attempt to make the sale of Ubisoft more appealing. Ubisoft is done. It’s over.

@Pedro: good point. I also feel some people are burned out from gaming. Launching an exe, learning the ropes of a new game... All of that takes effort.

Spending the rest of your life hating on stuff people created, watching hate filled content and clickbait... All of that takes zero effort.

Yeah I guess we all have our pet peeves.

Proud hater of Tablet and Smartphone gaming here, though at times they do try to win me over:

Loading Video...
Loading Video...

Two releases in the span of a week, so this does raise my brows. But touching a screen, the surface on which your game is displayed is still a big no-no.

I guess what I can say is that we are nuanced, we are open to other peoples opinions.

But a lot of the online haters are radicals, they are locked into echo chambers. Damned for all of eternity.

I just don't understand why Ubisoft had to go so woke with this game. Why I only have options to play the female Ninja and the Black Samurai? What happened with character customization, where I can choose what character/gender I can play. I get it that Black Samurai was a real historical figure, but why I can not chose the gender of the ninja character? I want to roleplay a male ninja, why I can not choose what ninja I can play? In the previous games I could choose between male/female Alessio and Eivor. What happened there? Why did they remove that option?

To think, there was a time, around after AC2, that I thought "man, how cool would it be with an AC game set in Japan?".

Now I couldn't be less interested.

To be fair, how else do you run in a game? 😋

I get what you're saying, though; it is a bit simple.

Other games have tried to make their locomotion mechanics more involved, and while it might seem neat initially, these attempts just end up getting in the way.

For example in Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, which has an AC-like locomotion system, you can tap a button after hopping over a log or a rock or jumping on a wall and you get a boost to your speed. This was fun for a little while but ultimately all you're doing is just pushing a button for a little boost, and getting punished for not pushing it. Immersion-wise, why wouldn't your character just do this every time, since he can?

Entirely subjective, but I'd rather it was just a passive ability you get that triggers automatically.

Too much input required just ends up feeling like a quick time event, and that would get tedious in a game that has you running long distances and doing a lot of climbing and parkour. Best to save that stuff for combat and various encounters.

To be fair, you can say that about 99% of games.

In the top series, not really. I can do stuff in Zelda BOTW/TOTK that I couldn't do in Twilight Princess, I can do stuff in Red Dead Redemption 2 that I couldn't in the first, I won't get into list wars but there's many more examples. If Ass Creed wants to be a top series (which it think it truly was from 2007-2013) it'd have to answer that question.
