in my opinion, i think it was garbageLinKuei_warrior
I know exactly. I beat it a while ago. While i was playing it, it was fun and the graphics were good, but after i beat it a week later i said to myself "Wow, this game sucks." wasted $60 on it... dam.
I found it amazing as well, but this is certainly a game that some will hate and others will love. Although, I would venture to guess that this particular game is often hated by those with a lower intellect and/or who are younger.

the game was a perfect rental.
it had amazing visuals, nice free roam environments, and fun gameplay but it was sooo repetitive. More variety would make it a buy.

Yes, people with lower intellect/young people are most likely the ones giving this game all the hate. I think that sentence would work perfectly if you were talking about Zelda, but Assassin's Creed? Don't make me laugh.
The game was short. It was two hours long... It's just that you repeated those two hours ten times until you "finished" the game.
If by fun gameplay you mean "Press forward" (while sometimes pressing "A") then yea, it freaking rocked!!!
Assassin's Creed sucked. I've never seen anything so pretty fail so miserably. The sword play, while realistic, felt stale and unimaginative. But, I mean, cool! I'm running across rooftops! But I'm not doing anything!!!! It failed to be the tactile experience I was expecting. I'm still shocked there was no "grab" button when jumping. Example: jump, press grab when near ledge, grab. fail to press grab, fall. Much more fun, less pushing forward.
Shadow of Collasus got something right in climbing (so Ico too, but I've never played that). When I was climbing I felt as if I was. Assassin's creed was stupid in that regard. Free-running could have been so much deeper. Not a 9.0. Gimme a break! Yet another reason I only come here for the boards nowadays.
Deja vu. I just said this in another thread...
AC was about as average as it gets. It felt like a movie tie-in release.
I guess I'll add more. Crap story. Or should I say the lack of a story. No, you did not get story when they hack of the end and save it for a sequel. Virtually nothing to do despite being in a handful of huge open-ended cities. If you take out the sand, it's not a sandbox anymore. It's just a bit empty box. A handful of side missions do not make up for it.
I loved it. If you have an understanding of the era and history behind it, you'll appreciate it much more. Too bad most people that bash the game are too close minded to understand the story.
I thought the story with the whole genetics and memories thing was cheesy and stupid. I just didn't like it.I loved it. If you have an understanding of the era and history behind it, you'll appreciate it much more. Too bad most people that bash the game are too close minded to understand the story.

i did like the story, i justed hated the bad american actor, the sudden ending( like supranos), sidemissions(6quest done 10times in a row), and rooftops(i can only remember 4good buildings, everything else looks the same), swordplay/stealth(ai was way too easy), and no crossbow(I figure they didn't want to do a SC clone) ... if any other game did this it would be stonedI loved it. the story was crap
they could have had a great story without the modern day science bullcrap
I thought it was great, a bit repetitive but great all the same.
On the point that younger people don't get the game, how many people worked out the hidden messages in the floor at the end? they had me stumped for days.
Aside from being repetitive the game was amazing.

-Freedom : Yes you are free to go anywhere, but all there is to do is run around and climb on buildings, there isn't much else to do.
-Decent story : I thought it was crap, and you already know 15 mins into the game who was the real bad guy, there was no surprise whatsoever.
-Fun gameplay : The gameplay is very repetitive and way too simplistic, it's the game's biggest flaw.
-Amazing graphics : That's right.
-Fun to explore : Again it's all about the pretty graphics, that's pretty much all the game has to offer.
-Not too long not too short : I thought it was way too long, i got bored after 2 hours playing but felt forced to continue playing cause i never left a game uncompleted.
Never a game has disappointed me as much as Assassin's Creed, it had very good potential, but overall the game was a total failure to me. It's the 1st time since years that i regretted buying a game. Now maybe to you it is a great game, and to many other people too, but to me it was just crap, id give it a 6/10 at most, and that's due to the nice graphics. While maybe it deserve a better score than what i would give it based on my own opinion, it sure didn't deserve the 9.0 score it got on GS.
Aside from being repetitive the game was amazing.

I am going to disagree. I do believe there was some greatness within AC, but the game as a whole was far from great. And not just the repetitiveness, but the little details bothered me. I didn't see the point of having three or four cities a million miles apart. Why couldn't it just have been one massive city. Especially since they lock parts of the city anyway, preventing you from accessing them.
I didn't like how the story pretty much forced you to kill the bosses with your hidden blade. I know, i know, you can kill them in other ways...but you still had to run up with everyone looking for you and get close for the story to progress and to gather the blood on the feather. Why couldn't the game be more like HItman, with many different ways to accomplish the mission. There could be poison, disguising yourself as a delivery person or shop keeper or guard. Why no crossbow or bow and arrow? And why does the throwing blade kill ANYONE with one hit (unless you hit armour) but throwing it at a boss makes them run and alerts all the guards.
While I loved running around the city, there were times when I was running in one direction trying to escape from guards and because the ledge wasn't perfectly straight, the guy jumps way off into the wrong direction screwing up my escape. Or there was a few times where he would fly way off course and land in water and die. And trying to run up a ladder during an intense chase often resulted in ALtair bouncing off the ladder and trying to run up an unclimbable wall instead because I wasn't perfectly lined up smack in the centre of the ladder. And trying to then climb the ladder as guards nail me was pure frustration. So that was a recurring issue that really bugged me.
I also didn't understand why you could walk right by what was clearly a mission point, but you couldn't activate it until you climbed 1000 feet into the air. That makes no sense. Walking right past two people talking doesn't tip you off they are talking about something important...but climbing 1000 feet into the air somehow does?
Finally, I didn't like how as the game progressed, more and more guards were on the roofs. While I could sort of understand it, the game keeps telling you climbing ladders is a way to NOT raise attention. But once guards are on every other roof, you will get shot at even if you climb a ladder onto a roof. It makes no difference what you do.
I'm sure I could complain about a dozen other little things that bugged me and made no sense. BUt like I said, I kept coming back to the game and actually really did like it. I only hope they tweak the game a little more with the sequal. I think the game has definite potential to be an incredible series if they do.

the story was crap
they could have had a great story without the modern day science bullcrap
but desmond's role in the battle between the templars and the assassins in modern times was crucial to moving the plot.
