So that nobody misses the article here it is!

One of the biggest announcements of E3 was the fact that Epic would be releasing Unreal Tournament 3 exclusively for the PS3 and PC this year. And thanks to a GameSpot interview with Epic's Mark Rein, we know a great deal more about the development process, and exactly what we can expect.

Rein was first asked how things were progressing, and why the team selected the PS3 as its chosen console exclusive. He replied that they were "really excited about being able to tap the power" of the PS3, and made a comparison to 2006's amazing Gears of War for the Xbox 360. Rein said that UT 3 is actually running better on the PS3 this year than Gears was on the 360 last year! And considering how great the latter turned out, we're even more excited for UT 3!

Rein also spoke about the "openness" of the PlayStation Network, and why it was ideal for user-created mods. Furthermore, this will go far beyond creating a level or two; you could actually take the Unreal tools, develop a whole game on your PC, and transport them over to the PS3. As he said, "the sky's the limit; users can create their own complete games." And of course, simply because it's Unreal Tournament, there will be a whole lot of downloadable content, and much of it will be free.

Lastly, it appears the motion sensing capabilities of the Sixaxis will make an appearance in the game as well; Rein details a section of the multiplayer action that uses a hoverboard. Yep, you use the Sixaxis to control that hoverboard, and he calls it "brilliant." As for UT 3 on the 360, he did confirm it would arrive "eventually" next year.

If you're not excited for Unreal Tournament 3 by now, you simply don't like games.

Not too surprising at all. NVidia's chipsets and Epic's engines have always walked hand in hand.

A year of updating the engine and it's actually running better?! I'm shocked!

If the PS3 version of UT3 runs better than the eventual 360 version, THAT will be news.

This would be interesting...if it was still "last year" for the 360.

The openness of the PSN is definitely a boon when it comes to games like UT, that rely heavily on player created material. I just don't know how they're going to get around this on the 360. No player mods in 360 version = fail.

Old news, and you realise that when this comment was made, Gears wasn't running on Epics multi-threaded gemini engine at that time last year.

But fanboys will ignore the details...

Exactly, also- does he expect rein to say "Actually we've found the 360 runs UE3 better and the PS3 is struggling with UT3. But please still buy my game"

I think everyone is missing the point that Unreal Tournament is probably gonna suck for all consoles, the action is WAY too crazy and fast pace for something like a controller pad. Honestly, keyboard and mouse = must for Unreal.

One thing I'd like to say, well two.

Gears is an exclusive title backed by MS themselves and developed by the creators of the engine *unlike Silicon Knights, lol amirite? Joking :P* so getting it to run better with more things going on at once and most likely larger environments, isn't something that should just be laughed out - especially considering it's a multiplatform game that wasn't sculpted solely for the PS3 and with the PS3's track record with those.

But at the same time, the game is coming out a year later but is also Epic's posterchild, their baby basically so it's no surprise they would want for it to perform better than Gears and given the gameplay it's almost necessary.

So people don't have to be mega-positive and read into the statement too much, but at the same time others shouldn't feel the need to downplay it... That's just my take on it all. o:

Not really - Heck, I remember playing UT back on the Dreamcast back in the days, it only had 4v4 but it was a blast. I think it'll control just fine on the SixAxis once you get used to it - but, you can also use the KB/M on the PS2 version from what Epic has said.

This game was demonstrated at back when PS3 was first debuted. Epic was their showing what the console was capable of, they panned the Camera around and froze the gameplay and such. If anything this game started development on the PS3/PC - so I wouldn't consider this a port. Also, you've gotta factor in that Sony has its own Engineers over in North Carolina working with Epic getting the engine running optimally on the PS3 - So the PS3 version should be outstanding.

That's true, I remember seeing that video for the first time.

E32005, I was only 14. o: Either way, it's nice to know that UE3 is being optimized for the PS3 further than what it was already, I forgot about that announcement from E3.

Quick question, they making a PS3 exclusive game or not? I can't remember if that was part of the agreement.

So the engine is running better almost a year later then when it is being compared to? Is this surprising news?

If this was meant to mean that the PS3 version will be superior to the 360 version.......FAIL.

I'm actually not suprised with UT3 running so well on the PS3, but only because it has my prefered GPU inside, but at the same time, my PC also has a GF7 GPU equipped, so both my PC and the PS3 are gonna run it pretty damn nicely As for ATI, they've not done a bad job on the 360 with some of the games, others actually look terrible, then again, Graphics are only part of what makes a game, even my fave 360 game PDZ looks a bit plasticy as far as character models are concerned.

Do you know how old this is? It should be a no brainer that the Unreal 3 engine runs better on the PS3, is has more power. We see games that have been optimized for the system and built from the ground up on it look and run better than 360 games. Unfortuently not to many games are actually built from the ground up on the PS3. Luckly more and more are being released.

Aaaaah look at all u guys now. At first you were all crying GoW looks better then any PS3 game, xbox owns PS3 graphics, laalla you've been whining that stuff since GoW got released. And saying PS3 can't do UT3 engine, it will never look as good.

And yeah this is old news none the less i wanted to rubb in your faces. But not only that you guys are now admitting it. Wtf are u fanboys doing? At first PS3 couldn't beat the 360 and now ur admitting it as if you knew it back then. Seriously i can't follow you guys. All just brainwashed...

as an owner of a ps3 i think that the platform it will be fully optimized for is the pc.Thats where the biggest community of nreal is and wher it will still be played years after.also it will not be much worse for 360 woners ebcause thyre most liely to get the one with allthe problems ironed ouut and some new goodies aswell as points but no mod software.

anyway in terms of online shooters like unreal,pc is where its at.

Can't care less about the PC version. Systems wars is about xbox vs ps for me. Wii = fine PC = fine. So if people have a 2000$ system and unreal takes advantage of so much hardware power great for people with an awesome PC. But it just boggles my mind that at times the 360fans were shouting out loud about how good GoW looked and that the PS3 could never match it. And now 1 year later or so we see the difference everybody says " YEAH DUH " i mean comon whats that about.
