Which game do you guys think is better?

I agree with this.Banjo
but SM64 inspired it.....

Banjo basically took everything great about SM64 and made it even better.
*Looks at Avi and Sig*They're both over-rated. I will probably never understand the appeal of N64 games.

How ironic.

classic cow, let me guess, you were too busy worshiping that trash called ff7 and trying to understand the dumb storyline from MGS to understand the appeal of N64 games? fair enough.

We are in system wars, non? I don't what it is, I can't seem to stop hating on the N64 despite owning one for several years now. None of the so-called classics are particularly good - Ocarina of Time, GoldenEye 64, Banjo, Mario 64, F-Zero X, Perfect Dark, all impossible to get into. The controller, the obtuse angles of the console, the ancient cartridges, the blurred vomit textures, distance fogging and laughable framerates on most of the games - I just can't handle it. It felt like a huge step back from the pristine, colourful pixels of the SNES.

Ahaha I am so sure you've never owned an N64. I'll believe that you've played one, maybe at a friend's house or something, but not owned.Yeah man those damned N64 games. Every single one of 'em is the same.nyoroism
I''ve never been able to truly get into an N64 game. "Truly", as in, be completely hooked from start to finish. I have tried to play Ocarina of Time three times now, and have found myself stopping earlier and earlier each time. First time, I stopped at the Zora water dungeon, the second at Dodongo's Cavern, and recently just after the Deku tree. It's a similar story with Mario 64 and GoldenEye.
Did you just start playing games? II-FBIsniper-II
I've played games as far back as I can remember. I have had the console for about two or three years and have barely touched it. There's just no incentive - I suppose much of that can be attributed to the ancient and drab looking graphics present in so many of the games. It's a problem I tend not to have with PlayStation and SNES games (which, artistically, are still good by 2D standards).
i suppose the earlier metal gear games with horrible camera angles and crappy gameplay were better than anything on n64omus101
The camera angles couldn't exactly be helped - it was the 2D days. It's also tough to create deep gameplay with two buttons and a d-pad. I would still say that I enjoy them more than N64 games, but that's mainly based on their plot relevance with the current Solid series.

I found that quite humourous. You blame cartridges as one of the reasons you couldn't get into a game?
Right now you sound like a troll.

yep, by far
First=/=Best.
Banjo took the Mario formula and made it bigger, with refined controls, much better graphics, gave you colorful characters, and a better plot.
Mario was the first, props, but Banjo did everything better.

more moves, bigger worlds, more characters, better bosses.C'mon...Banjo took everything that made sm64 good and expanded upon it.
anyway IMO:

Opinions, everyone has one, I respect yours, because Mario 64 is the grand daddy of 3d platforming, it is an amazing game, intuitive controls, great graphics, 3 freaking D yeah, it was amazing when I saw it back in the day.
To me, Banjo was the next step in 3d platforming, it took all the elements of M64 and evolved them, to make as a whole, a better game. That's my opinion.

Those are some of my general dislikes of the console, not just the games. However, some of the limitations of the console could be attributed to the cartridge format. Poor quality sound and blurry textures, for example. It's no wonder Final Fantasy went to PS1.

it was a great fun game, but mario 64 had much better level design imo and was much more a pure platformer.
But to each his own i guess.. i know there is a strong Banjo Clan.. Looking forward to the next one.. doubt it will be as brilliant in level design as galaxy though. But i hope it will be far different too. Let's hope it will be original and great

Yeah you're right if I buy a game and it has poor quality sound and blurry textures I just chunk it out the window.[QUOTE="-Spock-"][QUOTE="SSCyborg"]I found that quite humourous. You blame cartridgesas one of the reasons you couldn't get into a game?

Yeah you're right if I buy a game and it has poor quality sound and blurry textures I just chunk it out the window. In most cases they detract from the overall quality of the game. I don't expect to find MIDI-quality audio after enjoying fully orchestrated scores elsewhere. You don't need to be some audiophile to hear the difference in sound quality between the N64 and PS1.
It just stuns me, that at a time when its competitors were adopting a higher quality, larger capacity, cheaper format, Nintendo stuck with the cartridge. Because of cartridges, the game prices were inflated to the extreme here in Europe, and there were little to no technical benefits.
I'll give Banjo the edge on that one, maybe a little more polished than M64. But Banjo 3 >>>>>> SMGshadow8585
That's a lot of hype for a series that hasn't had a good game in 7 1/2 years. I'm not saying Banjo 3 won't be great, but SMG is the best game of the current generation, so maybe it would be better to wait till we have more than a teaser trailer to base an opinion on. Anyone that "knows" Banjo 3 will be better than SMG at this point is basing that on the fact it's coming to the 360 and not the Wii.
