Poll Base PS5 vs XB2. Which one would be the weaker and/or cheaper between the 2? (22 votes)

PS5 weaker and cheaper 45%
XB2 weaker and cheaper 14%
PS5 weaker but more expensive 18%
XB2 weaker but more expensive (ala forced KINECT this gen initially) 23%

Which do you guys think would be weaker and/or cheaper base model between the 2?

It seems Sony had never had the most powerful base console except this gen.

I don't think MS is willing to let go of their end to end advantage of cheapest base model and best premium console hardware.

You didn't have the option I feel is going to happen. PS5 will be weaker but the same price as the next Xbox. I voted weaker but more expensive for that reason.

I think any power difference between the two will be fairly negligible however going from how they both approached their mid gen refresh systems I would say that Microsoft is interested in going for a power advantage. The PS5 might be the cheaper system but I’d be very surprised if there is any more the a $50 difference between the two systems.

That would've been a good option. Thread fail.

That might become effectively true but it's gonna be funny how any small advantage will be used as ammo for SW.

I'm interested to see if they're so very close to each other in specs, release and pricing like maybe the other one has 15% total hardware advantage.

I feel XB platform would have far more advantage features wise. Sony has to maintain the fame of its 1st party studios to compete if price, release date and power are too close from the competition.

Who knows, maybe Sony would do a 180 degree and suddenly have their own gamepass and PC Play Anywhere.

@toaders: That’s a very good possibility as well.

@rzxv04: Yeah Sony is going to have to up their game to bring them closer to Microsoft features wise for their system. Including what you’ve mentioned they’ll also have to make the PS5 backwards compatible with their other systems in some fashion.

As said above, I'd be surprised if the next Xbox isn't more powerful than the PS5. MS won't allow that again.

I think it'll be a similar situation as it is with Pro vs X now. Xbox will be more powerful, but more expensive. But they are also going to offer cheaper models (ie. Stream box).

Sony will likely strike first with the PS5 and then MS will go all in and will have a more powerful system. 2 years later SONY releases another console that is more powerful and puts MS scrambling again... Either THAT, OR I could see SONY pulling something like having TWO models at launch. A weaker base version and a Pro version right at launch.

If phill Spencer continues head of xbox, I think he will always aim for the performance crown.

I believe he said so already that Microsoft will always be offering the best and most powerful hardware.

Also, the difference between the pro and x is not just performance. The x also has a greatly increased build quality and materials and that, with the added performance completely justifies the price difference.
