OMG lol, I don't even know where to start. But to make it short: By your logic I got about 80% of my over 200 games I got in the Steam summer sales for free
can't get that deal on steam because it won't even be for sale on steam
and of course steam never has that great of sales the first day or month a game comes out...steam is about awesome games that become super dirt cheap over time and especially over the winter and summer sales
when i think of steam i think of the saying "good things come to those who wait" hence the reason i have 180 games in the past year with steam for just around $200
......get THAT deal with physical copies

Good things come to those who buy early (enjoy the game without having to wait).Yeah thats cool and all but how many of those games were games you would have bought at a decent discount or were even looking forward to? Most of the time its this scenario for me. "Yeah this game is $5. I dont know. Will I really play it? Whatever its just $5. Ill use it for mods or something."can't get that deal on steam because it won't even be for sale on steam

Good things come to those who buy early (enjoy the game without having to wait).if a game is that meaningful to you to have it day one or month one...then the regular price shouldn't be a factor
if you don't want to pay regular price then obviously you can wait for the price to drop in a sale
The best deal youd find on a new release on Steam is -10% for pre-ordering. Thats nice. Ill take $20 credit from Amazon. Sure, I have to spend the $20 in their store but Id be buying from them anyway. They do this with every big release so Im essentially buying all my games for $40 + .99c release date delivery. Of course you dont have to have a game shipped from Steam. Its digital. 99c to have a physical copy delivered to your doorstep on release date. Ill take that instead. Plus physical is better.Stem has had similar deal and you didn't have to spend close to 100 bucks to get them.
Plus no shipping....Ever.
And I get the game immediately. Not counting the time to download them. It's a good deal, but nothing special.

Thats a poor counter argument. Id be buying the game day 1 or month 1 regardless of price, but Im still going to look for the best price possible. So... how does this Amazon $20 credit work.... I'm looking for it now... dont see anythinga about it...
basically I am going to buy Dead Island, Elder Scrolls V & RAGE.... guaranteed...... so how can I save $20 x 2 to put towards the other title?

True. I tend to get a little salty when I buy games on release, then drop massively in price over the months :P. I usually don't use Steam only for the deals, but it's a nice fallback on games that I'm on the fence over (got Fable 3 and Red Faction Armageddon for $25 each, games I probably wouldn't have paid full price for :P).can't get that deal on steam because it won't even be for sale on steam

I didnt make clear examples because Im expecting people to know them based on common sense. Im saying why would you pay for a digital copy on Steam, when you can find a cheaper physical copy for much cheaper. It can be shipped to your doorstep for just .99c from Amazon before people who purchased off Steam even finish downloading their digital copy. If you do a Google search on the front page Steam games, youll find that all of them can be found for much lower prices elsewhere. With a physical copy, you have the benefit being able to install instantly, no need to redownload in the event that your game gets deleted or if you need to reformat your computer. With a Steam copy, your game is locked to your Steam account. You must have Steam running to access the game. And you must be logged in to that Steam account. Other disadvantages of owning a Steam copy is you cant have other Steam games running. You cant let your brother or friend borrow a Steam game while youre playing. If you want a digital copy so badly, make an ISO backup. Back it up on a hard drive. If youre worried about losing your CD keys, write them down on in a notebook. Email yourself a copy of the CD key. Its smarter to rely on yourself to make sure your game is there when you need it than to rely on Steams servers being there. Aside from buying games a year after release at Steam sale prices during their unannounced sales, there isnt any other reason to buy from Steam considering the disadvantages of Steam copies and the price difference. One other reason could be getting a game instantly, but most gamers are more cost conscious than that.[QUOTE="heretrix"]So you are basically arguing for argument's sake.[QUOTE="USBxDVD"] Yeah and Borderlands came out when? Gotta agree, steams non sale prices are much more expensive where i live than retail, which makes no sense when you think about it. Ofcourse half of system wars has a love affair with steam so are completely unable to see any of its faults at all.... heres a few examples just off the top of the steam best sellers list- Portal 2 Steam : £20 Amazon: £12 Brink Steam (HALF PRICE SALE!!!) £15 Brink Amazon: £8 (yup steam absolutely rocks....) Rage Steam: £30 Amazon: £25 etc etc Some steam sales on older games are mindblowingly brilliant like Batman AA for £1.50 or something but for newer games its not cheap...no where near! And a extra hat for tf2 is hardly worth paying up to £10 extra for the same game espically if the game can be steam activated. And to the people talking about scratching disks as a disadvantage of retail....all i gotta say is lol! I have never scratched a disk in my life and i have 100s of games and i dont exactly take great care of some of the older ones...you would have to go out of your way to scratch it to the extent that it does not work!
