I managed to pre-order Battlefield 3 for only $1.99. Keep in mind both the promotional credit and gift card are rewards for simply pre-ordering 2 games from Amazon. I got the $20 promo credit for pre-ordering LBP 2 and the $20 GC for pre-ordering GT5. Even without the credit applied, $40 for BF3 is a steal. I only had to pay 99 cents to have it shipped to my doorstep on Oct. 25. Try getting this deal on Steam. http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/7871/bf3c.png It would be nice if a mod could link this picture for me.

Stem has had similar deal and you didn't have to spend close to 100 bucks to get them.

Plus no shipping....Ever.

And I get the game immediately. Not counting the time to download them. It's a good deal, but nothing special.

You do realize your case isn't a regular thing. You are just cashing in coupons.

Yeah thats cool and all but how many of those games were games you would have bought at a decent discount or were even looking forward to? Most of the time its this scenario for me. "Yeah this game is $5. I dont know. Will I really play it? Whatever its just $5. Ill use it for mods or something."

if a game is that meaningful to you to have it day one or month one...then the regular price shouldn't be a factor

if you don't want to pay regular price then obviously you can wait for the price to drop in a sale

The best deal youd find on a new release on Steam is -10% for pre-ordering. Thats nice. Ill take $20 credit from Amazon. Sure, I have to spend the $20 in their store but Id be buying from them anyway. They do this with every big release so Im essentially buying all my games for $40 + .99c release date delivery. Of course you dont have to have a game shipped from Steam. Its digital. 99c to have a physical copy delivered to your doorstep on release date. Ill take that instead. Plus physical is better.

physical for console...yes

physical for PC...no way, digital all the way

and doesn't amazon offer digital download for games? so technically isn't this AMAAAAZING deal you're talking about go for BOTH physical and digital?

Thats a poor counter argument. Id be buying the game day 1 or month 1 regardless of price, but Im still going to look for the best price possible. On the other hand, if youre willing to wait a year just to buy a game like Bad Company 2 for $15 on Steam, then the game probably wasnt even on your wishlist to begin with.

Whats the difference between having a digital copy on a console and having a digital copy on PC? Amazon doesnt offer these deals on their digital copies.

if you have a backlog as big as mine then it'd be silly to buy a game at full price day 1 and not even play it

and of course you're going to look for the best price possible, that's just nature...and hey!!! congrats you have some coupons laying around...enjoy your copy of BF3!!! while for those who don't have coupons will still buy the game at full price and at that point will probably go digital

I prefer digital copies, but I guess that's good if you want a cheap physical backup copy. Too bad you had to buy another expensive game up front just to get the $20 back on it though.

Everyone can get these coupons. All you gotta do is pre-order a select title on Amazon. Most of your SW worthy titles are eligible for the $20 promo credit. I buy all newly released games for $40 from Amazon.

since you're talking about pre orders let me add bonuses in preordering on steam. 1. free upgrade to a better edition 2. get the previous game (in the series) for free 3. discounts 4. bonus items in other games 5. game packs (in which you can save a lot of $$ Don't get me wrong, I myself prefer physical copy over digital ones anyday, but your argument is weak if you're going against steam.

Whats the point of doing that when I can buy a physical copy with a label, case and manual for much cheaper. I wont have to waste my own time burning it to a disc, labeling it, and finding a case to hold the disc. And its not just my opinion. Its kinda common sense. But if you consider the disadvantages to be advantages and are willing to spend extra money for them, then go for it.

Yeah and Borderlands came out when? Right. Im POSITIVE when Borderlands first came out, it cost much more on Steam than at a reputable online retailer. Thats why I said the only thing Steam is good for is its sales. How can anyone be stupid enough to scratch their disc to the point where it cant be read? And if youre capable of having a PC game stolen or even lost, then youre probably the type to lose your Steam login info. If you want a digital copy so badly, make an ISO file of your DVD. Or in the event that you miraculously lose your DVD, download an ISO off the web. You paid for the key.

OMG, I can get the game for free through my points with Best Buy Reward Zone... Unfortunately, this doesn't do much for anybody else.

This isn't exactly a normal occurrence.

So... how does this Amazon $20 credit work.... I'm looking for it now... dont see anythinga about it...

basically I am going to buy Dead Island, Elder Scrolls V & RAGE.... guaranteed...... so how can I save $20 x 2 to put towards the other title?

Anyhelp would be appreciated

True. I tend to get a little salty when I buy games on release, then drop massively in price over the months :P. I usually don't use Steam only for the deals, but it's a nice fallback on games that I'm on the fence over (got Fable 3 and Red Faction Armageddon for $25 each, games I probably wouldn't have paid full price for :P).

Just wait until the game is almost out. They usually put up the promo credit in the coming weeks. You can expect it for Skyrim and RAGE. Not sure about Dead Island.

Children and pets can get into alot of stuff.... just saying.... it takes a while to teach them what is okay and what is not. Plus **** happens.

I'm super careful with all my game disks... but some of them have scratches, not to the point where they dont work... but it could happen.

[QUOTE="moistsandwich"]

So... how does this Amazon $20 credit work.... I'm looking for it now... dont see anythinga about it...

basically I am going to buy Dead Island, Elder Scrolls V & RAGE.... guaranteed...... so how can I save $20 x 2 to put towards the other title?

Anyhelp would be appreciated

USBxDVD

Just wait until the game is almost out. They usually put up the promo credit in the coming weeks. You can expect it for Skyrim and RAGE. Not sure about Dead Island.

Is this just Amazon.com.... or Amazon.ca too?

meh.... looks like its just Amazon.com.... I think I'll just buy them off Steam, and save myself the headache of "when will it be delivered"...."will anyone be home when it comes".... so on and so forth.

[QUOTE="USBxDVD"] Whats the point of doing that when I can buy a physical copy with a label, case and manual for much cheaper. I wont have to waste my own time burning it to a disc, labeling it, and finding a case to hold the disc. And its not just my opinion. Its kinda common sense. But if you consider the disadvantages to be advantages and are willing to spend extra money for them, then go for it.USBxDVD

I bought Borderlands GOTY edition with all of the DLC for $7.50, In the last Steam sale, how in the hell am I paying more for it? And I also have the flexibility of burning it to a disk or just redownloading it if something happens? If your disk is scratched or lost (stolen) you have to buy the game again.

So you are basically arguing for argument's sake.

It doesn't matter if you are going to lose anything, you have the ability to recover it in case you do. You haven't proven your case at all in this thread. You used digital coupons to get a game cheap and haven't proven why physical copies are better than digital. You've only proven my point in that you are just staing your preference, which is fine, just don't try to push it off as fact, especially when your proof is to simply disregard everything but your own opinion.

Stem has had similar deal and you didn't have to spend close to 100 bucks to get them.

Plus no shipping....Ever.

And I get the game immediately. Not counting the time to download them. It's a good deal, but nothing special.

heretrix

i dont pay for shipping on amazon (in the uk theres super saver free delivery now and since the depots 15miles away it arrives in the same time as the paid P&P xD).

But yeah theres so much wrong with this topic i aint even gonna go there lol. This is like saying i save money if i spend more basically its pretty lolzy.

well going buy your logic, i can buy rage and skyrim and get id/bethadas entire collection for free practically, though I didn't buy rage to see how much it takes off of the 89% already off with 30% more off, where 20% more of preordering skyrim bumped it up from 69% to 89%

I didnt make clear examples because Im expecting people to know them based on common sense. Im saying why would you pay for a digital copy on Steam, when you can find a cheaper physical copy for much cheaper. It can be shipped to your doorstep for just .99c from Amazon before people who purchased off Steam even finish downloading their digital copy. If you do a Google search on the front page Steam games, youll find that all of them can be found for much lower prices elsewhere. With a physical copy, you have the benefit being able to install instantly, no need to redownload in the event that your game gets deleted or if you need to reformat your computer. With a Steam copy, your game is locked to your Steam account. You must have Steam running to access the game. And you must be logged in to that Steam account. Other disadvantages of owning a Steam copy is you cant have other Steam games running. You cant let your brother or friend borrow a Steam game while youre playing. If you want a digital copy so badly, make an ISO backup. Back it up on a hard drive. If youre worried about losing your CD keys, write them down on in a notebook. Email yourself a copy of the CD key. Its smarter to rely on yourself to make sure your game is there when you need it than to rely on Steams servers being there. Aside from buying games a year after release at Steam sale prices during their unannounced sales, there isnt any other reason to buy from Steam considering the disadvantages of Steam copies and the price difference. One other reason could be getting a game instantly, but most gamers are more cost conscious than that.

You're trying to tell us Steam has no advantages when ordering games, even new ones. I don't think anyone here will say new game pricing is better than retail.

Sure there is. You can pre-order it on Amazon for $59.99 ATM with .99c release date delivery. Ive never had it fail on me once. For that extra .99c you get the physical disc that you can use anytime to install without waiting for a 7gb download. You also have a nice case you can add to your game shelf. And if the price ever drops from now til release, you get the lowest price. Thats their pre-order guarantee. This includes any promotional credit which likely will be offered in the coming weeks. You get all these benefits all while knowing that your BF3 wont be locked to your Steam account which you must be logged in to to access. Also, BF3 isnt available on Steam ATM. But when it is, these restrictions will be in place.

Gotta agree, steams non sale prices are much more expensive where i live than retail, which makes no sense when you think about it. Ofcourse half of system wars has a love affair with steam so are completely unable to see any of its faults at all.... heres a few examples just off the top of the steam best sellers list- Portal 2 Steam : £20 Amazon: £12 Brink Steam (HALF PRICE SALE!!!) £15 Brink Amazon: £8 (yup steam absolutely rocks....) Rage Steam: £30 Amazon: £25 etc etc Some steam sales on older games are mindblowingly brilliant like Batman AA for £1.50 or something but for newer games its not cheap...no where near! And a extra hat for tf2 is hardly worth paying up to £10 extra for the same game espically if the game can be steam activated. And to the people talking about scratching disks as a disadvantage of retail....all i gotta say is lol! I have never scratched a disk in my life and i have 100s of games and i dont exactly take great care of some of the older ones...you would have to go out of your way to scratch it to the extent that it does not work!
