Being in 3rd place may be better than 1st or 2nd

This is definatly loser talk and cover up for ps3 being in last but it is kind of true. At the start of the gen sony came into the game with a cocky attitude thinking that since they owned the market last gen, the customers and devs would come to them without any sony assisted. So they put out an expensive system, with no games, and paid the ultimate price. Now they are playing catch up and really have done a great job with putting out great games, and constatly adding new features and what not. So you are kind of right, but its still loser talk.

I guess you do have a point. If an object has low sales compared to a competitor they could drop the price to attract more customers. It's economics.

Speaking of exclusives, Sony had many 1st and 3rd party exclusives last gen.

yeah, it probably depends on how you look at it.

The losing team may not be working hard enough to beat the champions or need to change their strategy.

It's even worse when you can't beat a team that has now become 'complacent'.

yes. Sony has a lot more work to do if it wants to be king again.

it has to at least double-maybe triple the amount of exclusives it has,make sure they are all top notch- gameplay wise not just graphics,

appeal to many genres and target audiences,

lower their prices even more,

be more aggressive in their marketing,

do better then their knee jerk half-a** attempts like PSP Go, Six axis, Wand andHome

Make better dev tools for third parties so it makes it easier for them to cater to the PS3's strengthwhen it comes to multiplats. Because it still sounds like it is a hassle working with the Cell compared to PC and Xbox360.

Build on the functionality of the PS3's multimedia capabilities and market it, market it, market it even more-(The whole it only does everything campaign?!?!?- needs to be more specific!)

create a better online service then Itunes and Xboxlive.

The problem it looks like it wants to be the premium product with the mass sales like the Wii.

Nintendo is sitting well in first and doesn't have a care in the world. Software is the last thing on their minds.

Microsoft is doing alright, but Sony is closing the gap. Their software relies heavily on 1 brand...Halo. NATAL is an effort to combat both these.

Sony is in last place and is pulling all the stops, from price drops to big name exclusives.

Hopefully this puts things in a clearer perspective. The topic title is simply misleading.

gamecube was in last place and that console gave us Wind Waker, Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil REMAKE!!! so being in last place doesn't mean you won't have the best gameslloveLamp

The PS2 gave us GoW, DMC, MGS 2 and 3, Twisted Metal Black, Jak I,II, and III, R&C, and more.

Nintendo is in first and doesn't look like its trying really hard and their no sighs of a price drop because it is seating at the top. think about it MS is looking good right now with their november sells so why should MS drop the price??? I came in here expecting some lulz, but I actually agree with you.

I think SW knows what this sort of talk is about, Sony going from 1st to 3rd is hardly a good thing.

For the consumer? Maybe in the short term, but the success of the PS3 will have an impact on the next generation, Playstation fans may end up having to wait longer for next gen or pay more to compensate for the previous generation losses.

Sony is burning through their cash reserve to acquire the exclusives designed to show off the PS3's capabilities, but remember what they say about the brightest flame.

I don't know man, it's just how long can Sony keep on doing what they're doing and keep on trying to do their best just to find out they are last place this gen? I mean Sony did pack the launch PS3s with all kinds of goodies but they didn't see any good results, so they took out alot of stuff and downgraded their system. The only way I find being in last place a good thing is if they improve next gen.

I'm not the world's biggest Sony fan, however, I will say they've really earned a lot of respect from me this year. I think Sony finally gaining momentum could be a great thing for us as gamers. Obviously, Sony in last right now is causing them to step up their game. It's pushing M$ to try and put out better exclusive/PC-Xbox 360 games. Even Nintendo is being forced to make an effort now.

So yes, I agree in some ways that it can make the difference.

Probably. Since their last two consoles were huge successes, Sony probably got cocky that the PS3 will succeed no matter what they did and release an expensive game with no killer apps of sorts. Unfortunately for them, Microsoft was improving as a gaming company and Nintendo started appealing to the masses. And unlike the OS industry or the handheld industry, the console industry is quite competitive. So they fall flat to last place and they got to bust their butts with a lower priced console and good game to at least profit and possibly stage a comeback. The PS3 is now much more affordable and great games are out and coming, but dethroning Nintendo or even Microsoft this gen is a long shot.

You do know that saying one console is better than another is an opinion, not a fact. So you get over it.

i hear what your sayin TC, and part of me kinda agrees with you.. and sony is really doing a great job fighting and scratching their way back, considering their poor launch(weaker companies woulda gave up *cough cough sega*).... but, in no way is 3rd place the new first place.. that said, i still think sony is putting out much better software and hardware

Looking at last gen PS2 was the best though they were at 1st place and when I look at this generation PS3 is becoming the best though they are in 3rd place well that means Sony is always the best at making consoles and video games but at the beginning of this generation they were more focused on winning the formats war than winning the consoles race by adding a Blu-ray drive to PS3 and making it very expensive at launch just to use it as the Trojan horse of that war.

You make a valid point; when you are on top you get comfortable and don't try as hard, but ever since a system war has existed, it has always been measured by sales. PS1 and PS2 dominated the past 2 gens, but Nintendo has made its triumphant comeback this gen and that is it, period. It has got there because of some great games, a very competitive price, and some great extras. Bravo Nintendo.
