I'm not a real fan of 2D but if I had to choose I would go with Blazblue after reading about it on Tvtropes. :P The least I would be willing to play is any Street Fighter with all the hard milking Capcom does.

I liked street fighter the most. Blazblue was just too hardcore for me, I had such trouble forming a strategy against others online, they were just so ridiculously good and used seemingly random unpredictable attack patterns that i just couldn't figure out how to counter, other than spamming, which got me kicked lol.
And brawl was just too big of a step back gameplay wise from melee to be better than sf4. They spent all this time making this crappy single player platformer thing, all this random crap that you can do in the game was kind of overkill, they should have just spent more time balancing the characters and perfecting the gameplay. There is no excuse for a character as good as metaknight to exist lol..
ya, blazblue can be very frustrating for me a lot of the time...i love the game, and prefer it over any other fighter, but i simply dont have/feel like putting in the time to fully mastering a couple characters and the overall fighting system, which makes the occasional casual online matches end up in embarrasing losses though somehow ive managed to average 20%wins in player matches out of about 300 matches, although majority of those wins involve a lot of jin and a lot of ice cars :PI liked street fighter the most. Blazblue. IMO, a much better game than SFIV.
Not saying that SFIV is a bad game, b/c it's not, but after playing Blazblue it's too slow for me.
There's just something about Smash that makes it never get old...probably the 4 players..but yeah in terms of hours played Smash has to be my favorite game of all time
SF4 is not only the best 2d fighter this gen... it's simply the best fighter. Well until Super is released.waynehead895
SuperSF4 won't be getting much play testing, so I'm not sure how decent it actually will be.
OP: Blazblue is a lot more fun than SFIV, however, it has some stupid/broken mechanics in it that lead to some nearly unplayable matchups. I'd probably go with BBCS>SFIV>BBCT as of right now. As much as I don't like some of the SF4 mechanics (shoryuken FADC ultra, ultras in general, easy reversals, one frame links, lenient inputs), SF4 isn't broken like BBCT is.

SF4's development was in a kind of a rush as well, considering that they released the game in arcades summer of 2008 and kept the same balance in retail version from then. I'd say they actually got a lot of development time on super.
And respectfully, I don't really like blazblue because of their 24 frame links. You practically don't need to learn any timing whatsoever, save aside the air combos at most.
SSBB is a fighter:PallsystemsphaiGo to a Brawl tournament and your mind will be changed. It's a very complex game! The only issue with vanilla Smash is that nintendo refuses to balance it. That's where a popular user-mod called "Brawl + " comes into play. turns Brawl into a more skill-based game like the GC one was.

24 Frame links? If you hold a button, it repeats the input for 4 frames. So even a one frame link in BB is effectively a 4 frame link. However, BB's combo difficulty really isn't based on links. You'll never have trouble comboing two normals together thanks to the gattling system. There are still plenty of very timing intensive combos (if you have BB, go ahead and try this little Noel combo I uploaded a while ago). Both timing and distance intense even though the inputs are fairly simple.
Where's TvC?
Have you seen the reviews that game has been getting?
I've played it and can say that it really is a great fighter.
The best 2D fighter this generation for me in terms of depth for gameplay is BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger. Not only having a deep gameplay the characters selection in my opinion is one of the best when it comes to variety to choose from. Also not to mention, there is a great deal of goodies that can be had for offline gameplay. From characters model to background the game just looks visually stunning from top to bottom.
If we go this gen time wise, I'll go with Guilty Gear ^ Core + or KoF98 Ultimate Match If we just mean this-gen consoles, I'll go with BlazBlue, though I could not like it as much as GG, mostly from the lack of characters I can truly connect to and the purely combo-based gameplay. 110millionWhich is weird. It is a game with a lot of combos which is what I like most about fighting games. But none of the combos impress me and there is not one character I gravitate to in BB. It's why I sold it.
