To me the worst GTA has to be San Andreas, it was too "ghetto" thugish and had a lot of stupid gimmicks like the whole getting fat and building muscle Sims like dynamic. To me the best was probably Vice City, it just had everything i wanted in a game. Buying property, living out the movie scar face essentially, nice environment that was easy enough to navigate, retro music, and just a pleasant feel. So what do you think is the best and worst, and why?
I agree with Vice City as the best, but have you ever played the very first GTA? (not GTA III, GTA) With the quality of the series so high and it's gameplay design now staples of the genre, playing anything remotely different just feels wrong to do to the GTA name.
I've only played San Andreas and IV and I loved both. I might prefer one over the other but It'd be weird calling the less preferred a worst. They're both excellent games.
The worst is easily the first game, I can't drive hardly 15 seconds without running into everything. :P
Best is San Andreas, it has the best variety in things to do, biggest map, largest amount of content. Thing is with IV the gameplay and overall quality went up, so I"m hoping V will be a great combination of San Andreas with IV.
Best: Vice City and GTA 2 are the best ones followed by Chinatown Wars and The Ballad of Gay Tony.
Worst: GTA 1. Eventhough I had a lot of fun playing it and it was a really unique game it's terrible when comparing it to the other entries in the series.

Ah, yes. I would agree that the game play in the original, london and 2 is pretty lack luster now (I have all 3). I was more thinking of them in terms of when they came out I suppose that's an unfair way to look at them though. The thing about those games really is that I don't think most people really associate them with the GTA series too greatly anymore.
Fav was Vice City, even though there were some massively frustrating bits in it (like the race against the getaway driver, and the final mansion which I never actually beat lol)
Worst I would say Vice city, some of the missions were too damn frustrating. Soundtrack was great, though. As for best, its a toss up between SA and 4.

Other way round. GTA 3 revolutionised the sandbox genre on Playstation. GTA IV is a disgrace of a game. Poor gunplay and awful driving. Overrated trash.

Great driving and great gunplay, you mean. I can't even go back to III after playing IV. The gunplay in III is TERRIBLE and the cars drive like paper airplanes. Plus the story and characters and world design of IV is lightyears ahead of III.

GTA IV = best The original GTAs have to be the worst (I and II) and maybe III is the worst of the modern series, but that's like saying out of delicious food, brownies are the worst compared to apple pie and ice cream.

Poor gunplay compared to the III-era games? :lol: The driving is far better than the PS2 games also. Cars are slower but at least you don't flip over every time you take a hard turn. The physics in GTA IV are nothing short of brilliant, too, which makes the driving fun as hell (diving out of cars, flying through windshields)

how the hell did you not play GTA 2 over all these years ? lol ... that was a defining PC gaming experience in Y2K. way to ruin a solid post. (ive seen gta2 in action)
