Best combat of this gen?

Street Fighter V Arcade Edition... and nothing else even comes close.

Doom by far. best combat since FEAR.

Nioh 2, DMCV, and Sekiro TBD.

On that list, bloodborne crushes all of them.

The war against loot boxes. Combat that tested resolve and endurance like no other.

i like nioh and bayonetta 2 over those choices, hell i even like nier automata over those choices. Looks like the list doesnt include fighters, if it did id give it to tekken 7

Best combat put Nioh up there TC. MGS 5 probably best gameplay though.

Anything but Bloodborne/souls games. Those games are broken.

Hopefully next month the answer changes to Devil May Cry 5.

You have 4 fighting styles: Hand-to-Hand (countering), Pistol (long range and chip damage), Sword (Power and countering), and Wild Dance (Sword+Pistol at the same time for both power and speed, but can't block). The combat as a whole is a lot faster with way more satisfying heat moves, and sightly resembles Devil May Cry in a way. There's also a ton of different weapons that range from normal stuff, to swords and spears that can shoot magical beams, restore health, have flame and lightning effects, etc. Out of all the Yakuza games, Ishin has by far the best combat.

Monster Hunter World imo.

And why is Horizon Zero Dawn in this? The melee combat is awful in that game.

The Witcher 3 would have been a better choice, but Dark Souls 3 pretty much owns all of them.

I mean there's an entire genre focused specifically on fighting mechanics and nothing else.

SFV, Tekken 7, Lords of the Fallen. Wait what you ask, I dunno, I just really enjoyed LotF for some reason, it was a buggy mess at times but I really liked the combat in it.

Souls games (including BB) are the best.

Yeah they should work on that for the sequel.

But the bow and arrow is solid?

SuperHot especially in VR makes you feel like a bad ass.

Also a honorable mention is the original Watch Dogs.

DOOM, God of War, Dead Cells, Nex Machina, etc... There are tons of current gen games with fantastic combat through most genres. Can't name just one.

@PSP107: The melee combat is too basic indeed, but bow and arrow combat is relly fun in HZD. I really luke how different parts of the enemies are more vulnerable to certain arrow types.

Breath of the Wild, and by far.

Imo it was under utilized, scenario wise.

I don't know if it's the best, but I found the combat in Horizon extremely satisfying.

I admit I haven't played a lot of the games on the op's list, but I see this being my answer for the foreseeable future. Or at least until Bayonetta 3 happens.

Tried Superhot VR for the first time yesterday. Was blown away, put a smile on my face :D! Like all stylish action movies destilled in this accessible, yet challenging package. Great rush! Makes me wanna buy VR now, instead of waiting for Ps5.

Videos like that WD-video always make me question my ability to judge gameplay at all. My impression of WD1 was that it was so-so. But when you watch that vid it's just a different game. When played with that much aggression and style it's actually fantastic.

i'd say Bloodborne God of war and monster hunter, not necessarily in that order

Probably Nioh. It's definitely better than any on that list. Monster Hunter World and Bayonetta 2 are good picks, too.

My fav was Homefront revolution, just like the on the fly customisation of guns to suit the situation. The problem with games like GOW are that the enemy are too predictable. I did like the HZD because it forced accuracy.

I saw Spiderman on that list and I literally couldn't stop my self from laughing out loud.
