I actually think the best combination is NDS + Xbox360 + PC + Wii.

But I have simplified it to include consoles only.

Wii

  • Best first party support.
  • Likely to have the best third party support after 2007 and phenominal third party support after 2008, like the NDS, due to sales.
  • Motion sensing. Regardless of current games (some of which use it very well) this is a secure holding point for future releases that will use it in new ways.

Xbox360

  • Better visuals than the Playstation 3.
  • Much better third party support and better PC ports than the Playstation 3.
  • String lineup of games already on the console. Strong third party titles such as Mass Effect, Halo 3, on the horizon.

It's in there.

NDS is a fantastic platform for games, and the touch screen works really well for a lot of games too.

I consider PC to be a necessity.

However due to high technological costs, many people can't afford to build one.

I agree but take some exception to the following; the devs that fall under MS Studios have to this point delivered the games in both quality and quantity and likewise in ref. to the 3rd party support for 360 now, and I see nothing changing that in the foreseeable future.

Other than that - Right On ;)

That combination has the fewest new game releases and costs the most.

Yeah, who has like $500 to update their PC to play Halo 2?  $270 for the new Windows, probably(in my case) $150 for a faster Pentium(I have a 1.6 barely enough for DOOM III), and probably $80 for some memory.

The problem with 360 + PC combinations is the lack of diversity. It is like technological inbreeding, since the majority of games on each platform are likely to be ported to the other console later on down the line. While at the same time you miss out on important releases on other platforms and completely miss out on the excitement of motion sensing integration over the next five years.

Both examples you gave are appearing on both platforms you listed.

I agree, i'm not a fan of handhelds but the ds is better than psp for most people.  I hated my psp and it has put me off handhelds permenently.  My 360 is absolutely the best console ever, it is on par with my n64 if not greater, i can't wait to get my Wii (when its in stock and has games that is).  I'm minus a gaming PC for this but my comp can still run classics like rise of nations and dungeon keeper so i'm chuffed still.

It is a real shame that Sony has put you off handhelds permanently, since the PSP has more in common with GameGear than a serious handheld platform such as the Gameboy Advance or NDS. Sony misconstrued the handheld market believing that gamers wanted Playstation 2 ports moreso than tried and tested handheld gameplay. It is a real step backwards for handheld gameplay, dating back to the really early days of the original Gameboy when stripped down versions of popular Nintendo games such as Metroid 2 where being released with awkward control schemes.

PSP is a handheld abomination. The load times are abysmal and the games are nothing but simplified versions of popular Playstation 2 games with awkward control schemes.

Playstation 3 is loosing third party exclusivity which will eventually encompass well hyped Konami and Square Enix titles.

If you purchase a Playstation 2 and an Xbox360 instead you would be able to play the exact same games and more besides.

This is a silly  thread. The best possible combo is everything available. A top pc, 360, ps3 & a wii. Every system has its benefits. As gamers you should want the option of playing any good title you want, not just the ones on the system you think is best. I am turned off by the ps3 price and other things but I will eventually have one. I just dont want to miss out on those games.

Is it about money or the best combo? If its about money the best combo is xbox, gamecube & ps2. You can get all those systems and all the great games for cheap. If you want the best current combo you need everything. Its expensive yes but by far the best.

It was a good idea but having that made me think twice about sony products, missing out what the demographic wants and instead tells them what they need:  mp3/mp4/game ports/internet.  I would just like something to play on the plane or car journey (I wouldn't be driving :P).  The DS games don't appeal to me in general but if i did need a portable console then DS Lite would take the biscuit.

what's so immense about the psp aside from it's outrageous price(costs almost as much as wii)

well lets see, it has a bright wide screen, plsys movies and mp3s, and of course plays games

BUT

it's battery life is pure crap they dont make movies for it anymore(who would want to pay full price for a movie you can only watch on a little psp?), you must use memory sticks to store your data(overpriced and dont hold much of anything), and has a small library of crappy ports and half-ass rehashes with endless loading screens in which the psp developers have almost no hope for + the graphics are about on par with a dreamcast

I can afford next gen systems. I just don't want to buy all of them only to find that I don't play one.

Why bother with two handhelds? NDS is the clear winner.

Between the Playstation 3 and Xbox360, the latter recieves the best games from the former, and much more on top of that.

I still get most of the good games.

For the 360 there is Gears of war, dead rising, halo 3, DMC4, halo wars, mass effect, GTA4, forza 2 ect and if some of those do come out on PC it'll be a loooong time.
PC you get Quake wars, C&C3(better version), crysis, dragon age, starcraft 2, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, bioshock(better version probably), sim city 5 and others.

I would like mario galaxy ect but I won't pick up a Wii for a while. Nintendo's discraceful support of pal regions makes me not want to buy one at all though(They are thinking of delaying ALL the popular games till 08, that is pathetic).

For the long run, PS3 + Wii hands down. You realize how pricey gaming is gonna get with a 360 and PC? Countless repairs, upgrades, XBL; all taking away from new games.

PSP has some awesome titles right now. Puzzle Quest and Crush are two of the best handheld games I've played in a long time. Please don't say that DS has Puzzle Quest as well because it's clearly better on PSP. I bought both.

It's also a great system if you like imports such as DJ Max Portible or Audition.

If you think it's just PS2 s tyle games, you've obviously never played one seriously.

Agreed. PC provides the cutting edge graphics and technology. 360 provides the most comfortable controller ever devised and some great exclusives you will miss on the PC. The Wii is perfect for parties, it's like guitar hero in console format.
